Horror as British climber dies climbing on holiday in Spain after helicopter rescue

This is the moment police rescued an unconscious British climber who tragically died after being winched from mountains near Malaga by helicopter.

The young man, believed to be around 20 years old, fell yesterday morning in Puente del Mono, or Monkey Bridge, near the village of El Chorro.

The climber had lost consciousness and gone into cardiac arrest by the time emergency responders reached him.

Despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead shortly after the helicopter rescue.

The alarm was raised around 11 am, and the incident occurred along the famous Caminito del Rey path.

Reports indicate the climber had been on a protected ferrata route, using a bolted metal rail for safety, when the fall happened.

A spokesman for the Guardia Civil in Malaga said overnight: “Specialist Civil Guard Greim mountain rescue officers from Alora, supported by a helicopter from Granada, rescued the body of a young British man.

"He fell while crossing a via ferrata in the Monkey Bridge area near El Chorro.

“When officers reached him, he was in cardiac arrest.

"CPR was administered, and he was evacuated rapidly to a nearby heliport where medical services were waiting, but his death was confirmed.”

It remains unclear if the climber was on holiday or a local resident.

A post-mortem will be conducted, and a court-led investigation into the tragedy is ongoing.

Last month, another British man had to be rescued by the Civil Guard after suffering a fall while climbing in El Chorro.

He was taking on a climb known as the Blue Line when he fell and broke his leg

His injuries left him unable to move and he remained 650ft up in the air until a Civil Guard helicopter helped him to safety.

He was taken to a hospital in Malaga to be treated for his injuries.
