Strictly: Aljaz talks about lifting the trophy twice

The anticipation is reaching fever pitch as the nation awaits the crowning of this year's Strictly Come Dancing champion. On Friday evening, professional dancer Aljaz Skorjanec joined It Takes Two host Fleur East and his dance partner Tasha Ghouri to discuss the upcoming final.

Fleur pointed out a potential historic moment for Aljaz, saying: "If you win tomorrow, you'll be the first male pro to lift the Glitterball trophy twice. What does it mean and how does it feel going in to the final this time around?".

The studio erupted with excitement at the prospect, leaving Aljaz momentarily speechless before he humorously remarked: "I'm still processing the two thing!"

Aljaz, who previously won the Glitterball trophy in 2013 with Abbey Clancy, shared his nostalgia for the dance floor and the It Takes Two show, acknowledging the bittersweet end of the season. He opened up about the significance of potentially winning again.

The beloved Strictly star reflected: "You know what, like I said a couple of weeks back, the more you do Strictly as a professional the more you realise how difficult and how hard it is to get to that final."

He continued, expressing his growing appreciation for the competition: "You appreciate and respect the opportunity each time more. Today when we did the camera blocks, I was getting emotional. I never get emotional like that."

Aljaz conveyed to Fleur the unique joy of accompanying a partner from the start right through to the finale. In the much-anticipated final, BBC audiences will witness each competing pair perform thrice on the dance floor, reports the Mirror.

Aljaz and Tasha are set to perform:

  • Judges' Pick: Couple’s Choice to What About Us by P!nk
  • Show Dance to Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman
  • Couple’s Favourite Dance: American Smooth to Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi

Shirley Ballas, the head judge, showered praises on Tasha and Aljaz. She said: "Tasha and Aljaz - from Week 1, Tasha has been incredible. Her work ethic has been second to none and she's shone on the floor week in, week out. She's become a beautiful Ballroom dancer. And of course, it's been great to have Aljaz back in the ballroom."

Despite facing off against TOWIE star Pete Wicks in the dance-off, Tasha has consistently topped the leaderboard throughout the competition. The judges unanimously decided to keep her in the competition.

JLS star JB Gill, who earned a combined total of 79 for his two routines, is currently leading the leaderboard. Speaking about reaching the final, he said: "Being in the final has to be a career highlight.

I don't get to do too many competitions like this, so being in the final is an incredible achievement. My goal has always been to get through each week but I've always said if you can get to the final, it's anyone's to win.

"My mum's saying is "someone has to win, so why can't it be you? It's all to play for. You have to give 120%."

Strictly Come Dancing is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
