Kehlani Parrish is an American R&B singer and songwriter from Oakland, California. Notable projects include the album SweetSexySavage (2017) and the mixtapes You Should Be Here (2015) and While We Wait (2019). She’s currently signed to Atlantic Records. Kehlani was born on April 24, 1995, in Oakland, California. She studied at the Oakland School for the Arts where she developed an early interest in dance. Kehlani wanted to pursue dance at Juilliard School but a knee injury ended that dream. She eventually switched her focus towards singing.

CAREER
Kehlani began her music career as a member of the teen pop group, PopLyfe. The other band members at the time were Dylan Wiggins, Jaden Wiggins, and Ali-Kahn Lochin. PopLyfe started off doing local shows in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2011, The group competed and finished fourth on the sixth season of America’s Got Talent. Kehlani parted ways with the band shortly after the competition. She spent the next two years struggling to get by.

Kehlani’s first solo track “ANTISUMMERLUV” caught the attention of Nick Cannon and subsequently landed her studio time and a Los Angeles apartment. She followed up with the release of her debut mixtape, Cloud 19 (2014). The album featured the song “Till the Morning.” The project was ranked among the 50 Best Albums of 2014 by Complex magazine. Kehlani’s second mixtape, You Should Be Here, was released in 2015 at the #5 spot on the national R&B/Hip-Hop chart. She was signed to Atlantic Records that same year.

In 2015, Kehlani was named among the “10 New Artists You Need to Know” by Rolling Stone. She picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album in 2016. Kehlani’s debut studio album, SweetSexySavage, was released in January 2017 by Atlantic. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard and was certified Gold by the RIAA. Her debut was supported by singles “Crzy”, “Distraction” and “Gangsta.” The production team boasted Pop & Oak, Charlie Heat, Iamsu! and others.

The year 2018 saw the release of singles “Honey”, “Touch”, “Already Won” and “Again.” Kehlani’s third mixtape, While We Wait, was released in February 2019 by Atlantic and TSNMI. It was led by “Nights Like This” featuring Ty Dolla Sign. Recording artists Musiq Soulchild, Dom Kennedy and 6lack also made guest appearances on the tape.

Kehlani is 5ft 5in tall and she’s a Taurus. Her net worth is estimated at $2 million USD. She once dated NBA player Kyrie Irving and Canadian singer PartyNextDoor. Back in March 2016, several hoax stories surfaced claiming that Kehlani was found dead in her home bathroom due to an apparent suicide. Those rumors started with an Instagram photo that sparked cheating allegations. At present, Kehlani is in a healthy relationship with guitarist Javaughn Young-White. The couple welcomed their daughter, Adeya Nomi, in March 2019.
