Apart from being a great photo background for actress Sanya Malhotra, lemons are good for various different problems
Feisty ‘Dangal’ actress Sanya Malhotra, who knocks out opponents continuously when portraying wrestler Babita Kumari, knows what to do when life gives her lemons! Her idea is simple—as she put up on Instagram—“When life gives you lemons...you pose with them! (sic)” The bubbly actress rocks the picture, simply lying in a sea of yellow while her red blouse provides a dash of brightness. The question one might have is what would we do when life gives us lemons?
Well, you can make your very own refreshing lemonade as the old adage goes, and using your grandmother’s recipe will add that extra ounce of charm to it. Or you can sip on lemon water all day. Beyond that, read on to check how to use lemons to provide that added advantage to your health.
For detoxification
Lemons provide a lot more than increasing the vitamin C levels. It works as an effective agent for detoxification of the body. The citrus fruit works in tandem with the body’s natural systems to flush out of the toxins. Lemons also have some diuretic properties (not very high), which allows for toxins to be expelled at a good rate. Just mix a spoon each of lemon juice and honey in a cup of warm water, mix it well and drink it daily in the morning on an empty stomach for a few weeks. The drink can be consumed in the evening as well, but avoid having it on a full stomach. Drinking lemon water in the morning also boosts immunity.
Easing a stuffy nose
Your grandmother might have told you that warm water with lemon will help you when you have a cold. Don’t dismiss the advice like an old wives' tale. This lemon helps dilute the congestion in your chest and nose, and the water will provide hydration. Mix a spoon of lemon juice in a glass of warm water along with a spoon of honey. The honey will soothe the aggravated wind pipe and sore throat. Use this mixture at least three times a day till you feel better. This warm water and lemon drink will also improve your bowel movement and relieve any constipation that you feel.
For getting rid of a kidney stone
These little buggers show up unannounced (age no bar), lodged in the crevices of your system, and how. With a big bang. A bang of excruciating, unbearable pain. The good news is that kidney stones can be broken down with the use of lemon, so that the smaller bits can be passed from the body through urine. The citric acid in the lemon helps break down the stones. Take a quarter of a cup of lemon juice and thoroughly mix it with a quarter cup of olive oil. Drink this two or three times a day. The olive oil will lubricate the internals and help with passage of the stones. If you are not able to drink one dose at one shot, drink it in two parts within 15 minutes of each other. Have a glass of water after drinking each dose of this mixture. Make sure you drink a lot of water through the day as well.
Reducing dryness in the mouth
Since lemon encourages the production of saliva, it will relieve you from feeling the dryness that might occur due to continuously breathing through your mouth. The citric acid in the lemon will also help get rid of any bad breath that you experience. The easiest way is to dunk lemon slices or wedges in a jug of warm water and sip this water throughout the day. You can also use lemon juice, but the rind has great properties, so it’s best to use slices or wedges.
