Chance to buy a slice of Fenland history
There’s a once in a life time opportunity to own a piece of Fenland history with one of the district’s most distinct and oldest properties currently on the market.
The Round House in Doddington is thought to date back to pre-1660 – that’s the time of the restoration when the son of executed King Charles I was installed on the throne following the restoration of the monarchy.
It is believed the thatched property was built by Dutchmen brought over to help drain the Fens.
It is also thought to have been a toll house and at one point was owned by the church.
The property went into private hand in 1935 and in 1949 was modernised and extended.
Full of character the house is grade II listed building is on the market with Next Level Property with a price tag of £295,000.
It has two bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen and bathroom – and as you might imagine the rooms in the original building are rather unusual in shape.
The current owner has lived in the Round House for the past 20 years and has collected memorabilia, newspaper cuttings where the property has been featured and photos. All of these will be past to the next custodian of the historic home.
The property has mullioned gothic arched windows, a feature fireplace among other features.
Set on Wimblington Road the house is surrounded by a lawned garden. It is a one-of-a-kind building in Fenland and properties similar are very rare across the country.
