Adding a monumental leap in the regional aviation sector, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has unveiled a new state-of-the-art terminal building viz Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Terminal at Gwalior Airport.

With the rise in passenger traffic and increasing demand for air travel, AAI has responded proactively by setting up the Rs 500 crore environment-friendly airport terminal.

“Witnessing the ever-increasing passenger traffic in Gwalior, the organisation has developed a New Terminal Building with a project cost of approximately ₹500 Crores,” AAI mentioned on X.

The development comes at a crucial time when the region is witnessing unprecedented growth in passenger traffic. The new terminal, spanning an expansive 20,000 sqm, embodies a vision for sustainable aviation and regional progress.

Notably, the AAI in 2023-24 operationalised new integrated terminal buildings at Chennai, Port Blair, Surat, and Tiruchirappalli Airports.

The terminal was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Modi when he dedicated 15 airport projects and 12 new terminal buildings worth Rs 10,000 crore.

Eco-friendly design features futuristic infra

The inauguration of the terminal highlights the commitment to environmental protection. The eco-friendly design of the terminal not only aims to reduce carbon footprint but also sets a precedent for future infrastructure projects in the region. As sustainability becomes increasingly important globally, Gwalior’s new terminal serves as a shining example of responsible development.

With modern amenities and enhanced facilities, passengers can expect a seamless and comfortable travel experience. This is particularly significant for the regional people who rely on air travel for business and leisure purposes.

Gwalior Airport built in record time

Recently, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that in the 75 years of India’s independence, an airport, spanning 2.5 lakh square feet, has been built in such a short time in Gwalior.

“It is noteworthy that the foundation stone of the airport was laid on October 16, 2022, and the inauguration will take place on March 10, 2024,” Scindia said.

The inauguration of the Gwalior airport, which was completed in the shortest time of just 16 months, is also a historic achievement, he added.
