Coherent spectroscopy and dynamics of Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states
The interplay of magnetism and superconductivity offers a vast variety of interesting phenomena. At the atomic scale, it results in magnetic bound states, called Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states, which are protected by the superconducting gap. The static properties of these bound states have been extensively studied over the last decade, as they can serve as building blocks for topological superconductivity. By contrast, the dynamics of these states and their coherent control remain largely unexplored. During your PhD, you will combine scanning tunneling spectroscopy with state-of-the-art techniques – such as electron spin resonance, pump-probe, and stochastic resonance spectroscopy – to delve into this field. Using a bottom-up approach, you will investigate the key mechanisms that determine the quasi-particle lifetimes and establish coherent control over them.
The project is funded by the Center for Quantum Photonics of the Carl Zeiss Foundation and set up in collaboration with the universities of Ulm and Jena.
