Sources: Neil Warnock agrees deal to be new Huddersfield Town manager

Neil Warnock is set to become the new manager of Huddersfield Town, sources have told Football Insider.

The 74-year-old has agreed to take charge of the Championship strugglers and will be announced as their new boss on Monday (13 February).

Warnock has signed a deal which will keep him at the Yorkshire club until the end of the season.

Huddersfield sacked manager Mark Fotheringham last week (8 February) after just 20 league games in charge.

The Terriers have opted for experienced boss Warnock to become their fourth manager in seven months, 30 years after his first spell at the club.

They sit inside the Championship drop zone by a point after interim boss Narcis Pelach led them to a 1-0 defeat against fellow relegation candidates Wigan on Saturday (11 February).

Warnock, who called time on his managerial career after leaving Middlesborough in November 2021, is one of the most experienced second-tier bosses of all time.

He has taken charge of 507 matches in the division since its restructuring in 2004.

The Sheffield-born manager has also taken charge of Cardiff, Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield United in the Premier League.

Warnock holds the record for the most promotions in the English Football League, with eight – and he has also not been relegated to the third tier in almost 25 years.

He managed to avoid the drop to League One with Rotherham in a spell at the club in the 2015-16 campaign.
