Bungie said they wanted players to experiment with crazy new builds in Destiny 2’s armor 2.0 system, and now players are really starting to put that to the test. I posted about some fun, pretty wild builds yesterday involving unique artifact mods. They’re strong and a blast to play with and I feel like they’re in no danger of getting nerfed or patched, despite the endless grenades and melee attacks they can supply.
But this new build is different, because it doesn’t rely on any of the new artifact mods at all, and takes advantage of some unique combinations between armor 1.0 and armor 2.0 gear.
This build is from SoaR Baken, and it allows you to get your Blade Barrage super as Hunter in roughly 15 seconds. That is…quite fast. How does it work?
Your first four pieces are going to be armor 1.0 pieces including a 1.0 Sixth Coyote chest, which gives you two dodges.
You want to slot in a Paragon mod, which lowers class ability cooldown, into all four of those pieces.
You want armor 1.0 boots that have the “Distribution” perk on them, which decreases all cooldowns on class ability use.
But in armor 2.0, the Distribution perk has been turned into a mod that applies to class armor. And with 8 energy on your cloak, you can apply two of them, giving you three in total.
So, how this works is:
Paragon mods reduce dodge cooldown at base.
Dodging near enemies recharges your melee, hitting enemies with knives makes your dodge cooldown lower.
You can stack two charges of dodge with Coyote chest.
So you are dodging nonstop and every single dodge gives you a huge bump in super energy (not to mention grenades and knives) because you have three Distribution perks running. Hence, you get your super full in 15 seconds.
I have also seen Chevy do a modification of this build for Arcstrider which can get that super in about 20 seconds, slightly less because you lose the burning knives perk. But still wild.
Unlike the other builds, it feels like this kind of thing could be at risk for getting patched in some way (specifically, triple stacking Distribution), due to the fact that it’s not something that will go away with the artifact, and it has to do with getting your super back insanely fast, something Bungie went to great lengths to nerf at the beginning of this season.
It isn’t the easiest to pull off because it does require things you can no longer farm for, and you must already have, like a saved armor 1.0 Gwisin and most importantly, saved 1.0 boots with Distribution. So not everyone will have access to that and you can’t farm for it, since that perk no longer exists on boots at all in armor 2.0. But then that gives an unfair advantage to those who do have that stuff, so perhaps that might be even more of a reason to patch.
This will put Bungie’s concept of crazy new builds to the test, as we learn how far is too far when players start breaking things like this. Nerf lord that I may be, I really don’t mind this existing, but we’ll see if Bungie wants to take action or not.
