Detectives are investigating a shooting involving an officer in Kent.

Officers were called around 12:19 p.m. to reports of a car left in a 911 caller's driveway. They said two men got out of the car and reportedly said they were out of gas, and were going to walk to the gas station at S 272nd St and Military Rd S.

Police ran the car's plates and learned it was reported stolen while the two suspects were at the gas station.

Officers confronted the two when they returned, and one of them ran. Police ran after them, and one of them reported the suspect had a knife.

Kent Police say the suspect ran behind a house near 272nd and 33rd Pl, and an officer pursued him there. During the pursuit, an officer shot the suspect.

Police attempting lifesaving aid, which was taken over by fire personnel who arrived after.

The suspect died of his injuries. No officers were injured in the incident, but the officer involved was placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.

The suspect who did not run was booked into jail for a traffic warrant.

People who live in the neighborhood claim they heard five to six shots. Nadeem Ahmed, who lives near the scene, was driving to his place of worship when he said he was shocked to see the large police presence.

"Always makes us nervous. We are really concerned about the safety of the neighborhood and neighbors. And these things are happening a lot," said Ahmed. "It always shocking, and it’s especially very sad when somebody got shot."
