Arrest made in deadly Lower Merion home invasion; second suspect at-large
LOWER MERION, Pa. - Authorities in Montgomery County have arrested and charged a man in connection with a deadly home invasion that happened over the weekend.
Charles Fulforth, 41, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, robbery, and related charges in the Dec. 8 incident, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele announced Thursday.
Lower Merion Police and U.S. Marshals are continuing to search for a second suspect in the shooting - 42-year-old Kelvin Roberts of West Philadelphia.
Charles Fulforth (L) was taken into custody and charged in a home invasion that left a young man dead. Kelvin Roberts (R) remains at large.
Lower Merion Police were called to a home on Meredith Road around 2:20 a.m. for a report of a home invasion and shooting.
Police arrived on scene to find Andrew Gaudio, 25, deceased after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
His mother, 61-year-old Bernadette Gaudio, was also found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was rushed to Lankenau Medical Center where she underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition.
Police say Andrew Gaudio was shot and killed execution style while trying to protect his mother.
District Attorney Steele revealed during Thursday's press conference that Bernadette was bedridden with a leg injury when the suspects entered her bedroom and shot her. Steele says she is currently paralyzed as a result of the shooting, but was able to call 911 using ‘Siri’ on her iPhone.
"We were able to confirm this through talking to Bernadette it seems Andrew had come to help her in her room and that's where he was murdered," said Montgomery County DA Kevin Steele.
According to court documents, Bernadette was able to call 911 after she was shot, and dispatchers could hear the suspects rummaging through the house in the background.
Investigators identified Kelvin Roberts as a suspect earlier this week after they say he was captured on dash camera video leaving the scene in a Jeep belonging to the victims. The Jeep was later recovered in West Philadelphia along with a jewelry box that had belonged to Bernadette.
Roberts is already wanted for a theft charge in North Wales and a burglary in Philadelphia. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Officials still can’t say if the family were random victims of violence or if they were targeted.
The District Attorney’s Office is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to Roberts' arrest.
