Illinois residents received nearly $299M in unclaimed funds last year: state treasurer

The Illinois State Treasurer’s Office is encouraging residents to visit its I-Cash website at least twice a year to see if they have unclaimed property waiting for them.

In 2024, nearly $299 million in unclaimed funds were returned to Illinois residents through the I-Cash program.

What we know:

The program is responsible for managing unclaimed property, which includes unpaid life insurance benefits, dormant bank accounts, unused rebate cards and other forgotten assets.

According to the Treasurer’s Office, the average amount of a claim last year was $902, making it worth the time for Illinois residents to check if they are owed money.

How to Check:

To find out if you have unclaimed money, visit icash.illinoistreasurer.gov. The process is free, with step-by-step instructions to search for and claim funds.

Residents are reminded to make checking the I-Cash website a regular habit, as new funds are added frequently.
