Maryland School for the Deaf

Maryland School for the Deaf has been an innovator in education since its inception 150 years ago.

As the faculty, students, alumni and community celebrate a century and a half of the institution this year, they reflect on the school’s progressive and boundary-breaking history. The school has seen many graduates go on to become leaders in their fields and continues to strive to foster an academically rigorous environment that will produce more luminaries. While the school’s philosophies on education — and its two campuses — have radically evolved over the years, one thing has remained the same since it was founded: the institution’s core belief in the abilities of its students to achieve.

Great article. The caption under Mr. Tucker’s photo says he is in his 20th year. Actually it is his 26th year he started in the fall of ‘92. Also George Veditz is not the first Deaf Marylander to get a drivers license it is Uriah Shockley who was the first Deaf Marylander to get a drivers license. I enjoyed how you put the article together! Kudos!

Was Uriah Shockley an ancestor of the person who established Shockley Honda dealership? That would be very interesting.
