And researchers around the world are working on exciting new prevention methods like drug-releasing implants, microbicides, and vaccines.

Over 35,000 people in the US contract HIV every year. Worldwide, about 1.5 million people contract HIV every year. That is unacceptable. That’s why we need more HIV prevention options.
Our Communities Can Make a Difference
The need for HIV prevention research remains urgent. Worldwide, more than 37 million people are living with HIV, and approximately 1.5 million acquire HIV each year. That’s over 4,000 people every day.
The future of HIV prevention research depends on all of us working together. Most importantly, it depends on the understanding, trust, support, and participation of all communities. Who We Are
There is currently no cure to end the HIV epidemic. Finding safe and effective methods to prevent the spread of HIV is our best hope. Be the Generation stands proudly as a bridge between the researchers striving to end the HIV epidemic and the communities most affected by the disease. Managed by the Office of HIV/AIDS Network Coordination and funded by the National Institutes of Health, our mission is to promote community awareness, understanding, and support for HIV prevention research.
