    The Fall Office

    The Fall Office

Summer has ended and fall has officially started.  The change of the seasons happens gradually and slowly sneaks up on you, however once October begins reality sets in.  The time of long sunny days has ended, there will be no more trips to the local pool and sunny and 80 degree days are now in the past.  Some people will be sad to see summer end and some will be ready to welcome fall with open arms.  This transition can lead to all sorts of ways to change the setting and feeling in your office or place of business.

    Décor

Summer is all about sunshine, flowers, and warm weather.  Fall brings a new feeling with it.  The weather begins to cool down, the fall harvest begins, and people start to prepare for the winter that is on the horizon.  Although many people are sad to admit that summer has ended there are many ways to embrace Autumn.   One of the most noticeable ways is through décor.  People start buying gourds and pumpkins to place by their entrances and by their desks.  The bright color schemes turn from summer yellows and whites to fall oranges and browns.  As you begin to decorate for Halloween and Thanksgiving, don’t forget to decorate the office as well.  By embracing the new season at the office, you help keep the workplace feeling modern.  In addition, changing the scene around helps prevent the workplace from seeming boring and stale.

    New Foods

As summer barbeques and cookouts begin to become a thing of the past, a more seasonal food menu begins to appear almost anywhere.  Apple and pumpkins pies become the dominate dessert and cook outs start to shift to tailgates for sporting events.  A great way to help improve employee morale is to embrace this change by holding some fall events.  A pot luck or office dessert day would be great examples.  Create a day of the week where people can share their recipes and culinary creations.  This will help create a more laid back work setting and allow people to relax and get to know each other better through food.

    The Changing Weather

The transition to fall brings a new climate with it.  Mornings will now have a colder, wetter feeling and people will begin to bring out the fall jackets.   Most offices are already prepared for colder weather; however, it is worth taking a look around to ensure your office is properly prepared.  As people bring in more coats, it is important to ensure you have enough closet space, hangers, and coat racks to accommodate them.  In addition, it is a good idea to test the office heating system to ensure you are prepared for the cold that is on the horizon.   Finally, make sure you have the proper type of floor mats.  People will need to be able to properly wipe off their shoes to help keep the office clean.

    Back to School

One of the best parts to summer, especially as a child, is the break from school.  Now that fall has begun the children are back in the classroom and the environment and feeling around the country changes.  Parents no longer have to worry about what their child is doing, knowing they are in back in class.  This should lead to a different mood in the office.  People can now focus more intensely on their work endeavors.  In addition, many professionals will resume night classes in pursuit of higher degrees to advance their professional career, if encouraged properly, this can have a positive impact on the office as well.  People will be excited to work knowing they have a brighter future on the horizon.

Even though summer will be missed, fall provides a great change of not only the seasons but the attitude in which we live our lives.  By embracing this change at the office, you open up a number of opportunities to improve your work environment and office morale.
