East Kilbride Railway Station

The East Kilbride Line was opened by the Caledonian Railway in 1868. It was an extension of the Busby line, through what was then East Kilbride village to Hamilton.

The section from East Kilbride to Hamilton closed in 1914, but was reopened for passenger services briefly from 1923-24. Occasional special services ran until WWII when the section finally closed. Much of the trackbed has since been built on.

Despite being around half a mile from the town centre, the station is well used by Glasgow commuters and shoppers. The service is half-hourly, with a journey time of around thirty minutes, normally provided by Class 156 Diesel Multiple Units.
