The building is Grade II listed Link
. Ramsgate is one of a series of three similar stations (the others are Margate and the demolished Dumpton Park) all built in 1924-6. The architect is thought to have been Edwin Maxwell Fry, chief assistant to J. R. Scott, Chief Architect to Southern Railways. In 1923 Fry joined the Architect's Department of the Southern Railway as its chief assistant. The three stations reflect Fry's classical training under Charles Reilly at the Liverpool School of Architecture.
The history of the railways in the Ramsgate / Broadstairs / Margate area is somewhat convoluted: there used to be both a Ramsgate Town station (considerably nearer to the town centre than the current station) and a station at Ramsgate Harbour - see TR3865 : Disused railway tunnel at Ramsgate Harbour, Kent (photographed by Ron Strutt).
