Frontage of Exchange station, Liverpool
Liverpool Exchange station was constructed for the Lancashire & Yorkshire and East Lancashire Railways (the latter eventually being absorbed by the former), but declined in importance after its long distance services were moved to Lime Street. It closed in 1977 when the remaining local services began using the tunnel under the station to reach Moorfields and Central stations. The main building, fronting onto Tithebarn Street, has survived as offices, and appears well cared for.
