Geograph - photograph every grid square

Re SU6032 : Alresford Distant signal. Interesting that the Alresford distant has moved so much further out. Back in the early days of the preserved line, when the infrastructure was pretty much as inherited from BR, the distant signal was about � mile closer to Alresford, by (what was then) the A31 road bridge, as shown in SU5932 : Mid-Hants Railway, probably where the outer home is now. There was no outer home in those days. I see that the current distant appears to be electrically operated - just as well as, if mechanical, it would be a hell of a pull from Alresford 'box! When my photo was taken, the Alresford distant was fixed, it was only 'off' at the time of the shot for filming purposes. I wonder if the new arrangement is dictated by regulation, or has been created to satisfy the signalling purists?
