The return of supporters at The Western Homes Stadium (London Road) Peterborough
For the first time in the 2020/2021 football season fans were allowed to watch a match live in the stadium. With Peterborough being in Tier 2 of the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown rules a maximum of 2,000 fans could potentially have attended this Football League Trophy match between Peterborough and West Ham Under 21s which Peterborough won 3-0. Spectators were only allowed to sit in pre-selected seats with people in their "bubble", masks had to be worn all the time and one-way walkways were in operation, along with a strictly controlled system for allowing the supporters to leave a few at a time at the end of the match.
No catering facilities were open, so the photographer had to go without the usual hot Bovril drink and a chicken Balti pie at half time!
The evening started foggy and was followed by torrential rain.
Many of Peterborough's supporters live in nearby south Lincolnshire, which is in the higher risk Tier 3 so were not allowed into the stadium. These two factors, combined with the unpopularity of the Football League Trophy competition, resulted in an attendance of approximately 750, far fewer than the 2,000 the club had expected would flock back to see live football for the first time in 9 months.
