Platform 2, Whitehaven Station
Platform 2 at Whitehaven Station, formerly known as Whitehaven Bransty Station to distinguish it from Whitehaven Corkickle Station at the other end of Whitehaven Tunnel, the entrance of which is directly behind the photographer (see NX9718 : Whitehaven Tunnel).

Cumbrian Coast Line
This railway follows the West Cumbria Coast from Barrow to Carlisle. First opened in 1844 and completed in 1866.
Whitehaven Station
Whitehaven station opened in 1847. The railway station is a stop on the scenic Cumbrian Coast Line 39 miles south west of Carlisle.
It is operated by Northern Rail who provide all passenger train services.
