There are many ways to help fund your master's degree. Thanks to funding from generous donors, the Gilder Lehrman Institute awards scholarships every term for new and returning students in the MA in American History program. Students can also apply for federal financial aid and eligible students can receive benefits offered by the GI Bill®.

Number of Awards: One fellowship per state per year (as funding permits)
Eligibility Criteria: US citizens with a bachelor’s degree* who are or plan to become a teacher of American history, government, or civics
The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation offers these fellowships to train outstanding teachers of the American Constitution at the secondary school level.
*Applicants must either already possess a bachelor’s degree or plan to receive it no later than August 31 of the year in which they apply.
You may be eligible for Federal Direct Stafford Unsubsidized Loans and private education loans to cover tuition and other education-related costs. Students who apply for federal loans receive their financial aid award letters via mail within two to four weeks of FAFSA submission. Notification times for private education loans vary by lender. To start the process, you will need to file the free application for federal student aid (known as FAFSA) listing Gettysburg College as the school of choice. This can be done online at www.fafsa.gov. If you do not receive your FAFSA approval before the registration deadline and you are ultimately approved for financial aid, you can apply the aid toward courses for the following term.
