Glazed Donut Skin Is Spring’s Yummiest Trend 

When Hailey Bieber declared 2022 the year of glazed skin, our first question was, How can we get it immediately?

Upon further digging, it seems Bieber is most likely encouraging glazed skin for her upcoming beauty line, Rhode Beauty, but that doesn’t make us any less obsessed. The inspiration comes from an unlikely source: a glazed donut. It may seem random, but when you think about it, the perfectly smooth, gleaming icing is the perfect skin goal, especially as we enter warmer weather. 

“This is a texture that hasn’t been seen a lot in the last decade,” says makeup artist Jamie Greenberg of the trend. “The glazed look is usually a signal of youthful skin—the youth are really embracing the gleam of a glazed skin look, and everyone is following suit.” 

You can get the frosty gleam with makeup, but like most skin-centric looks, it all starts with proper skin care. While we’re sure Bieber’s line will have products specifically tailored to the look, you can easily create it with your current stash. Start by gently exfoliating to remove any flakes and get the smoothest base possible. Then, Greenberg recommends prepping your skin with a face oil or a balm—she likes Furtuna Skin’s Replenishing Balm and Skinowl’s Selenite Gloss.

She also recommends mixing an oil into your foundation, or pressing a small amount of oil into your skin after applying your makeup. If you’re oil-averse, she also likes Kevyn Aucoin’s Glass Glow Gloss for the glazed effect. “I love to layer with a little color too,” she says. “I like to place JamieMakeup’s Blighlighter as a first step and the Glass Glow on top.” 

Just be careful where you’re placing your glow so it doesn’t turn into an oil slick. “You should be hitting the high points of the face,” says Greenberg. “The entire face shouldn’t look like glass or wet—the high points should be the most wet, and your T-zone can have a light sheen.” And if you’re on the oily side? “People with a naturally oily skin type don’t need to apply extra product to achieve this; they’re already on trend!”
