Anne Hathaway just went through a bigger hair transformation than Mia Thermopolis.
On October 27, the actor was photographed filming her upcoming ’80s coming-of-age film, Armageddon Time, in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in New York City. The film, which also stars Anthony Hopkins and Succession’s Jeremy Strong, features Hathaway sporting a short curly bob—and honestly, we love this for her.
Before we show you Hathaway’s new hair, here’s what she looked like just a month ago:
And here’s Hathaway now. While the short bob could be a really good wig, it does appear Hathaway chopped off many inches of hair to shoot Armageddon Time:
Of course, this isn’t the first time Anne Hathaway has rocked a short do. Back in 2012, Hathaway chopped her hair into a memorable pixie cut, again for a role. At the time she was starring as Fantine in the film adaptation of Les Misérables. She went on to win an Oscar for her performance. At that Academy Awards ceremony, Hathaway also had short hair, styled with a swooped side bang. (How 2009 of her!)
That Fantine beauty transformation was not an easy one. “I wasn’t expecting it to be such a big deal, because it was my idea,” Hathaway said on Live! with Kelly in 2012, per People. “It was something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and I knew it was something the character did, so I just offered it to the director and he said ‘Yes.’ As it got closer, I thought: I can’t really take it back now.”
Getting used to the look was not easy. “I’ve now done back-flips out of windows, I’ve jumped off buildings,” she said. “And cutting my hair reduced me to, like, mental-patient-level crying. I was inconsolable.”
Hopefully, her hair transformation for Armageddon Time was tears-free.
