1. Classic smoky eye

You can’t go too wrong with a classic smoky eye for party season. To make it modern, take your cue from makeup artist Nikki Wolff who smudged heavy kohl liner under the waterline for a dramatic finish on actress Sophie Wilde. Team with lashings of mascara and a balmy, neutral lip.

2. Pops of yellow

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

For a pop of colour that doesn’t feel too ‘out there’, experiment with a single line of yellow shadow swept along the crease of the eye for a playful look. For maximum impact, keep the rest of your makeup pared-back (think spa-day skin and a tinted lip balm).

3. Cinnamon roll makeup

Cinnamon roll makeup is the latest aesthetic to take over our Instagram feed. Made famous by Hailey Bieber - who recently launched her Cinnamon Roll Peptide Lip Tint - the look incorporates warm, brown hues on lips, eyes and occasionally cheeks. We love Violette's take (above) featuring a shimmery, bronze eye.

4. Liquid shimmer eyes

Metallics are having a major moment - and not just in our wardrobes. Swathes of silver liquid eyeshadow can immediately create a party-ready look that's high impact and low effort. Top tip? Use a cream or liquid product for a molten metal, glazed finish.

5. Frosted lids

Lean into this time of year and opt for cool blue and silver tones to create a beautiful frosted finish. Feeding into the cold girl look that's currently trending (again), pair sparkly lids with flushed, balmy skin and glossy lips for full effect.

6. Lavender haze

If there's ever a time to get on board with glitter - it's NYE! Make a subtle statement with lilac glitter eyeshadow swept over the lids a la Romee Strijd. Top tip? To prevent fall out, begin with your eyes before moving onto the rest of your makeup.

7. Glazed blush

‘Glazed’ beauty trends have seriously taken off this year. First it was glazed nails that went viral, then it was glazed skin, and now it's all about glazed blush. Combining a dewy skin finish with an ultra-flushed blush - this trend is seriously flattering. Try it!

8. Metallic rainbow eyes

There are no rules for this lit rainbow eye look – except to have fun creating it. Sneak a slash of metallic pink over the lid between blue eyeliner along the upper lid and cut crease. Rather than silver, add a dot of shimmering lime in the inner corners to brighten your eye whites and illuminate your brow bone by bleeding the lime shade into aquamarine.

9. Monochromatic copper

Copper is the party-loving cousin to latte makeup, which has dominated our feeds in 2024. Here, model Karlie Kloss looks stunning with glistening copper circling her eyes; a similar tone makes her cheekbones pop and a deep copper-burgundy lip elevates the whole look.

10. The big smoke

The cat eye flick has stood the test of time. Expect a heavier version, with copious amounts of black eyeliner, in Spring 2025. Here, drawing right on the inner waterline of eyes (a technique known as tightlining) makes the look simultaneously modern and sultry.

11. Mixed metal eyes

Infuse your smoky eye with delicate hints of silver and gold in the inner corners and centre of the lids. Reserve the gunmetal hue for the wing, a la Katie Jane Hughes, to make the whole look even more show-stopping.

12. 60s mod makeup

Make like Florence Pugh and add a little drama to your LBD with this dark cut-crease, haloed by fluttery falsies. As well as sitting in the groove of the upper lid, the black kohl liner (presumably Valentino's Twin Liner in Black & Nero, as Florence is an ambassador for the brand) hugs both her upper and lower lash lines, while a soft peachy lip is the finishing touch.

13. Green and purple power duo

Makeup artist Joy Adenuga is the queen of taking colours you’d think would clash and making them work beautifully together. Case in point: this stunning green and purple shimmered shadow look on Wunmi Mosaku for the Call Jane premiere.

14. Confetti eyes

This look created by Patrick Ta for Gigi Hadid epitomises everything we love about New Year’s glam. It features a softly bronzed lid, with floating confetti gems carefully placed in a curve shape, and a bold true red lip.

15. Draped in gold

Who said gold foil was strictly reserved for arts and crafts? Fani showed us how to expertly make it a standout eye look — and we cannot get enough of it. “With my trusty pair of Tweezermans and Eyelure Lash Glue, I carefully took small pieces of the gold foil and slowly stuck them onto my eyelid,” Fani explains. “At first it wasn't looking great but you have to trust the process!” she added. The best bit about this look, according to Fani? It doesn't have to be perfect! The messier the better.

16. Glam neutrals

If neutrals are more your thing but you still want to keep your look incredibly glam, we’re looking at Hung's work of art on Simone Ashley. Using entirely Fenty Beauty, his key products included the Snap Shadows Mix & Match Eyeshadow Palette in “True Neutrals” and Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color in “Unveil”.

17. Glitter sprinkles

What’s the festive season without buckets of glitter? It’s not as fun, we can tell you that much. We can’t get enough of this playful look created by Brii. The look starts off with a shimmering hot pink base, topped with a colourful array of glitter carefully placed over the top and finished off with plenty of blush and a smidge of highlighter.

18. Berry lips

Make a glam statement with a smoky eye and a deep berry lip like makeup artist Ash K Holm has created here on model Jas Tookes. She’s added a subtle shimmer on the lids, plenty of smoked out liner, lots of mascara to give fluffy lashes and a bold, berry lip.

19. Glitter brows

Instagram content

OK, stay with us for this! This look is created by first fluffing up brows and filling them in as little or as much as you like. Next, take glitter glue and apply it through the ends, and finish off with a light dusting of your chosen glitter (we love gold or silver for this) – using loose flecks or a shimmer shadow pot. Keeping your makeup fairly minimal allows these brows to take centre stage, and they’re sure to be a fun conversation starter for the evening.

20. Mix and match shimmer

Allow Katie Jane Hughes to convince you to try a different colour for each eye this NYE. This look features bronze and pink shimmer shades in a wash of colour on each lid, paired with a peachy pink lip to finish it off. This is a trend you can match perfectly with your eye and hair colours to get colours that look effortless together.

21. Glossy lips

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

A lot of us go mad for matte when it comes to a red lip, but Nyma Tang shows us exactly why we shouldn’t forget to add a layer of lip gloss over the top. Pair this lip with fluffy lashes and a dusting of shimmer shadow for a standout evening look.

22. Invisible eyeliner

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

A popular TikTok makeup trend this year was invisible eyeliner. One of the easiest ways to create this look is by using a stencil. Simply hold onto your lid to block out the wing and blend out your shadow colour. When you remove the stencil, you’ll get this incredible negative space effect. The possibilities are endless when it comes to shapes and shades you can use!

23. Pop of neon

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

If you want to add a bit of colour to your makeup look but don’t want to spend hours on it, add a pop of colour — literally! Adding a vibrant hue in the inner corners of your eyes is a creative way to add colour to any makeup look without painstaking blending required. It works with all colours but we particularly love neon hues.

24. Crystals everywhere

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

We’re firm believers that you can and should wear crystal embellished eyes everyday if you want, but this is especially true on New Year’s Eve! We adore this look created by Nikki Wolff for Addison Rae featuring a single winged liner, fluffy lashes and jewels along her entire upper and lower lash lines.

25. Classic red lip

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

If you’re not up for trying anything new or embellished this New Year’s celebration, take notes from ultimate style iconic Lily Collins and go for a very neutral eye — mascara optional saving the hassle of removal at the end of the night — and a bright red lip. It’s not called a classic for nothing.

26. Lively liner

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

If you want to try a bit of colour in your makeup but aren’t confident with a full-on glam look, or don’t have time to commit to it, try doing a simple eyeliner and wing with a coloured liner. Choose any hue that takes your fancy, we particularly love this pink shade.

27. Blush, blush and more blush

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

If you’re strapped for time, try this tip from Katie. Swipe on your best red lip, pop a little bit on your lids for a pretty wash of colour, then take a blush brush and load it up with colour from your mouth to blend out onto your cheeks. Ta-da! You’ve got an entire rosy-hued makeup look using just one colour product.

28. Celestial lips

Who said shimmery iridescence was only for the eyes? This look uses Danessa Myricks’ Lightwork III Experience Palette to create a celestial, multidimensional lip — perfect New Year's makeup.

29. Graphic liner

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

If you’re not one for much glitter or colour, you can still make a big impact with your makeup by using graphic liner. This look features a double winged liner with accent dots paired with a neutral lip for maximum impact.

30. Lower lash line love

If you want to add a splash of colour to your makeup look but aren’t sure how, Joy teaches us how to add some colour to your lower lash line to add fun to any look. Step it up even more by incorporating a few tiny gems.

31. A disco take on negative space eyeliner

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Negative space eyeliner is impactful on its own. But incorporate a foil lid, like makeup artist Lisa Eldridge has done here, and your New Year's makeup will be the talk of the party. Be warned, it takes a steady hand to execute, but a few falsies and a nude lip is all you need to complete the look.

32. The zebra wing

Instagram content

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

That little black dress deserves more than just a plain old feline flick. Look no further than makeup artist Ash Kholm's vivid creation, which serves up a razor-sharp zebra-striped wing that will add interest to any eye colour. Simply trace along the edge of your black cat eye with white liquid liner, fluff up your brows and keep the rest of your makeup neutral.

33. Hint of pink

Instagram content

For a pretty makeup moment, experiment with peachy pink and gold tones like Kerry Washington here. Makeup artist Carola Gonzalez has created a subtle gold halo with a hint of pink on the cheeks and a glossy peachy rose lip to match.

34. Golden glaze

Blending our love of graphic winged liner with classic gold lids is this stunning makeup look from Avendaño on Jodie Smith. He outlined the wing with a bold black liner with a smudged out wing and then placed a beautiful gold shadow inside the wing shape taking it right into the inner corner of Smith’s eyes.

35. Disco lids

Who said you can’t wear chunks of glitter on your eyelids? Not Laura Whitmore, or us. We adore this look from the presenter, who takes the theme of jewelled studs from her outfit and makes it the centrepiece of her eye makeup, even taking some chunks of glitter through her hair too.

36. Teeny crystals

If you’re taking your look from day to night, try taking some inspiration from this look by Letitia Sophia. She’s added four teeny crystals under the brow bone to add some sparkle to a classic nude smokey eye and glossy lip.

37. Chameleon chrome

Can’t decide which colour to try? Wear them all. This chameleon chrome shadow look worn in a thick graphic wing shape lets the shadow do all the talking. Let the compliments on this look roll in all night.
