Prajje Oscar Jean Baptiste was eliminated from “Project Runway” last week in the flamboyant menswear challenge “Let Me See Your Peacock!” Were the judges right to send him home? About two-thirds of the “Runway” fans we polled after the episode (66.81%) agreed that it was his time to go. Scroll down to see our complete poll results at the bottom of this post.
The challenge in “Let Me See Your Peacock!” was to create men’s red carpet looks that made extravagant fashion statements. Jean Baptiste was eliminated for a look that judge Brandon Maxwell compared to a nutcracker going to a gay club, while Nina Garcia positively hated the copper-colored sheer turtleneck underneath.
But this wasn’t Jean Baptiste’s first struggle this season. On the contrary, this was the fifth week in a row that he got a low score from the judges. Before that he had made a busy, unflattering jumpsuit in “Uncut Hems“; a costumey captain’s uniform in “Below Decked Out“; a dated silhouette in “Freedom“; and an old-fashioned, not-edgy-enough gown in “Double Bind.” Each time there was at least one designer the judges thought did slightly worse, but not in “Peacock.”
Another quarter of our poll respondents (25.11%) thought the other designer in the bottom two, Laurence Basse, should have been sent home instead. Her “Peacock” look had big problems: it wasn’t flamboyant enough, it wasn’t suited for a red carpet, and the two pieces she designed didn’t go together. But she has had a much stronger track record this season overall, including three challenge wins, which may have influenced the judges’ decision to keep her in the competition and send home the struggling Jean Baptiste.

They are supposed to judge based on that particular challenge and that particular challenge only. Laurence is an amazing designer and will no doubt have an incredible runway but she absolutely should have gone home for that challenge. Now, don’t get me wrong, that gold bodysuit was heinous but Laurence not only had an ugly outfit, it did not even come close to meeting the challenge.
I agree too. But the biggest injustice was sending Korto home. She deserves a win from past shows, but is robbed every time. She is extremely talented and I love her aesthetic.
