Out of all the predicted nominees, Angelina will have to campaign the hardest or at least the most strategically. Maria’s buzz is quiet, at least from what I see.
Karla, Nicole, and Demi seem to have no problem there, and Mikey will benefit from many things, and especially her movie.

Underestimating Nicole, who will have lots of press in January, is just silly. She may miss, of course, but she’s respected with capital R.
A lot of people are dropping her but I expect them to add her back in once Babygirl will be released

because it’s Pamela Anderson and the Academy are a bunch of elitist snobs + the movie doesn’t seem to be that kind of ~undeniable universally acclaimed masterpiece~ it needed to be a part of the conversation like that I think

Babe, I know this website is small but I saw Netflix all over with ads for Maria, I don’t think they’re planning a small campaign for her …

Because it’s Pamela Anderson. Jlo couldn’t get in in supporting with a box office hit, raves, gg, cc, sag noms, LAFCA win and she used to be a respected actress earlier in her career working with acclaimed directors before she became a popstar and tabloids fodder.
The last showgirl is getting decent reviews but she needed a stronger film and an undeniable performance. I think a GG nom is possible though

Exactly this. JLo had a successful movie at box office with a similar themed role; she also had previous acclaim in the industry with a GG nod. As much as I want Pam to happen (she deserves) she very much fits into that JLo Hustlers mode so might get passed over because of the Razzies curse

Rooting for Zendaya to go all the way no matter how many Challengers lookalike contests we host to keep her top of mind.

So basically, you saw most of the commercial performances, yet you still haven’t seen the real dramatic roles of Kidman, Jolie, Baptiste, and Torres whose performances top the ones you’ve screened.

This all makes sense. I guess in my mind Anderson has the underdog rising from abuse and bad choices that often award shows like to get behind. Jlo was always successful in some medium while Anderson toiled away for years until the role of a lifetime came up. I say all this haven’t actually watching the movie (like most of us) but just thought she should be in the conversation more.
It kind of reminds me of when Elisabeth Shue, after years of being relegated to girlfriend roles, finally got her role of a lifetime in Leaving Las Vegas, another Vegas movie, and shocked the industry with her range.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 30, 2024 at 11:33 am #1206034041No Cynthia Erivo hate will be tolerated here. I haven’t seen Wicked, but I’m glad she’s getting this kinda buzz for it. I dismissed her chances early cos I thought the film wouldn’t be in contention for awards. Calling it right now….second Oscar nomination for Cynthia Erivo
Relax! Wicked is not a masterpiece, as its massive budgeted campaign has described. It’s only 73 on Metacritic, and its recent reviews on RT are mostly negative for different reasons. This is nowhere near the artistic success of La La Land, Chicago, Rent, or Les Misérables. GG will join its bandwagon, but the Academy members won’t buy another Barbie.
