Golf vacation
Played 4 rounds at the end of December 2019 and the first of January 2020. The course was in excellent condition. It played longer that the card listing, because the fairways were soft from rain the week before I arrived. Tee boxed were in great shape, played the white tee boxes, which are the middle set. Listed at over 6300 yards. Fairways are wide, but small rough areas on each side, then water with Crocs or Jungle. If you hit in either, just drop a new ball, take a stroke and keep playing. Greens are large but grainy, with some slope. Great course, but hit it low, as there is a lot of holes into the wind.
Playa Mujeres
The course has fairly wide fairways and a forgiving second cut. If you do hit it off line and it goes into the jungle, good luck! There is wildlife everywhere including a resident alligator. A couple of holes have an ocean view but for the most part you are in the jungle. The bunkers are large and well placed. Slope and the grain of the greens make them the most challenging part of the course. Playing here twice my longest round was 3 hours. It was not busy either day, not sure if I got lucky or people did not want to deal with the heat.
Bring bug spray or buy in the pro shop!
Beautiful course
This course is in pristine conditions! Fairways and greens are excellent. Not an easy course but very nice layout.
Great service and picture worthy holes abound
This is a beautiful course and worth the money. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. I played an early round, and asked the drink cart what kind of food. They offered me a breakfast sandwich and by the next hole they had brought up a delicious egg sandwich with fries for me. Great service, and a memorable course!
Nice course north of Cancun
Course was in decent shape. A bit of a ride north of Cancun to Playa Mujures, the new north beach area of Cancun. Lots of building on the beach nearby.
Other courses are all-inclusive, this one not. You get a few bottles of water. That's it. Everything there is expensive so bring extra balls, your own clubs, etc.
Wind was very strong & it rained one hole but blew through. Wide open fairways either tail wind or directly into it. Not very interesting holes from that perspective. Greens were in good shape. I lost a few balls buried in the spongy rough just inches off the fairway. Sand traps in good shape. I hit plenty of them. So definitely do whatever it takes to keep it on the fairway. Jungle & swamps will eat your ball.
And beware the Crocodile on #9. He's a big boy. Thought he was fake with a loaf of bread near his mouth, probably to lure birds close in for a snack then WHACK! See my pics.
Might play it again if I got a deal but otherwise sticking to Riviera Cancun, Iberostar Paraiso, Playacar CC, and way south to Riviera Maya CC. Those were less $ and all-inclusive.
Playa Mujeras - hard to pronounce, easy to enjoy
Playa Mujeres (pronounced MOO-Hair-Ez) is probably the best bet for players staying near downtown Cancun, or in its hotel zone. It's less convenience for golfers staying along the Riviera Maya south of Cancun at the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort, Mayakoba and the Iberostar Playa Paraiso. The jungle between the Caribbean Sea and the Chachmuchuc Lagoon squeezes narrow fairways tight. The best holes come late in the round, starting at the par-3 15th hole, home to a table-top green and deep bunker. The 16th tee reveals the sea, a distraction on a tricky short par-4. The intimidating par-4 finishing hole ends at the large colorful clubhouse.
Nice course for the price from golfnow.com
Every hole surrounded by jungle. Rarely saw others from another hole. Very flat course with a few narrow fairways with the danger of water. Moderate amount of sand also. Not crowded and we could play at an enjoyable pace to enjoy our round.
