real mountain golf
the elevation changes on some holes is dramatic. #5 has a drop off about 150 yds. from the green, requiring a substantial carry to not be in the trash- Unless you are really long, it is a lay up- I enjoyed the course, would play it again. If it weren't for the signage it would be easy to get lost. The distance from some greens to the next tee is extraordinary.
Didn’t get to play
It wasn’t raining at the course, but it was raining in the mountain and because I live in Sevierville, Tennessee and have to cross over the mountain to Whittier, North Carolina and interstate 40 is closed due to hurricane damage. I couldn’t get to the course very disappointed.
Not worth money
The course had views but was not worth the $75 green fee. The greens were so so and the fairways needed some work. The rough needed mowing so I going to say we wont be back!
Traveled 2.5 hours to play a course that was good in terrible shape.. could of been from flooding which is understandable… but something should’ve been said to a paying golfer up front!!!!
Wild hole set ups
Some of the most scenic and unique holes I’ve ever played.
Hole 5, with its 200’ drop was crazy. We had such an amazing time.
Just FYI, bring extra golf balls, lol.
Can’t wait to play it again.
Wild Mountain Course
Enjoyed this mountain course layout with several wild holes that have huge elevation changes. Course conditions could be better, but the unique layout and great views make up for it.
Bad Shape
This course is a great course for around 30-45 bucks. With the rate they are charging right now, it’s nowhere close to an 80$ round. Plenty of other courses within an hour that are 30 bucks cheaper and in a whole lot better shape. Come on SMCC lower those prices and you’ll get a lot more business.
Great despite the rain
My Dad and I played it in a downpour but it was still a blast. The drops from tee to green on most par 3s and the huge drop off the par 5 fairway made the course challenging and memorable. Staff was great. I’ll play it again in better weather for sure.
Mountain golf
Great mountain course. Make sure you bring your range finder with slope correct you will need it to judge yardage especially on some of the par 3. Course was in great shape but the greens were very slow. Staff was amazing and extremely accommodating. Can’t wait to play the course again when back in town.
I did have a good time. Some beautiful views and come really nice holes. Sadly, there were some really poor conditions of the fairways and especially the tee boxes. Many tee boxes were just pounded sand and had to look everywhere for a quality spot to tee off from.
Many of the tees were in spots not aligned with yardage I believe as a result of these issues.
Greens for the most part were pretty good with the exception of a handful where I had to move my ball to avoid putting through dead grass, sand etc.
the staff was super friendly so definitely no issue there but they even admitted that with the recent membership drive they don't have enough carts sometimes so they are having some growing pains.
I think they need to invest in improving the conditions of the course because it has REAL potential to be a flagship course in the area with some time and $ reinvested back into with this new membership push. $ was fair for the conditions at least. If I had to pay more I think I would be have enjoyed myself less. For $20 more you can play courses not too to far away that are in perfect condition.
