This Next Generation Commander III is one of the first of its model to be operating out in the field. The new machine was introduced for the first time at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2014. One of the machine’s first projects is slipforming four miles (6.4 km) of sidewalk in Wales, Wisconsin.
This Commander III is equipped with a monolithic trimmerhead and mold. It simultaneously trims the correct profile as the monolithic sidewalk and curb and gutter is slipformed. The monolithic profile is a 5 ft. (1.52 m) sidewalk with a 36 in. (914 mm) roll curb.
This Commander III with the 12 ft. (3.66 m) paving package attachment is slipforming a street with integral curb on one side and a side-mounted bar inserter on the other. The new roadway is being paved half-width, 11 ft. 6 in. (3.5 m) wide.
This Commander III is simultaneously trimming and pouring an eight foot (2.4 meter) wide sidewalk and bicycle path in Casper, Wyoming. Stringline was not used on the project, and the machine was operated in manual steering.
The versatile Commander III is simultaneously trimming and slipforming 10 ft. (3.05 m) wide sidewalk.
A contractor paves a single lane 11 ft. 6 in. (3.5 m) wide with a three-track Commander III equipped with a 12 ft. (3.66 m) paving package in Santiago, Chile.
This Commander III is simultaneously trimming and pouring an eight foot (2.4 m) wide, five inch (127 mm) thick, recreational trail in Independence, Iowa.
The Commander III comes with the power of the GOMACO exclusive operating system, which features a universal design that is simple to read and understand.
A 9.8 foot (3 m) wide paving package on this three-track Commander III allows this Australian contractor to slipform 8.1 miles (13 km) of new roadway.
Monolithic sidewalk and curb and gutter is another application for the Commander III. The monolithic trimmerhead did the fine trimming for two levels of grade to exacting specifications.
This contractor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, used their Commander III to slipform a path 10 foot (3.05 m) wide and five inches (127 mm) thick.
This Commander III is trimming and slipforming monolithic sidewalk and curb and gutter in Canada.
Whether it calls for curb and gutter, monolithic sidewalk and curb and gutter, recreational trail, barrier wall, bridge safety parapet, 20 ft. (6 m) wide paving or irrigation canal, no other paving machine in history has been capable of tackling more types of projects and satisfying more customers.
I Won't Go Anywhere But GOMACO, Commander III Is Smooth and User Friendly
We chose the Next Generation Commander III because of its new features and technology. We have always run a Commander III. It has the power that is required for us on a lot of these demanding jobs. Its durability is key. We can’t be in a small community, hours away from necessary parts, and have it break down. That just can’t happen and that’s never been a problem with the Commander III.
The Next Generation Commander III is smooth. Smooth and very user friendly. I love the G+® control system, its screen, control dials and buttons. Plus, the G+ diagnostics are really good. I can go in and easily diagnose the machine with all of the feedback available.
I like the fact that I can just hit the button and with Cruise Control, the machine will rev itself down. I don’t have to jog the throttle down, I just track it and the machine remembers what speed it was at before it stopped. That works great. Its smoothness of travel is just really good and the machine holds tight to the line.
It’s a user-friendly machine and after just one day with it, we’ve been at full comfort level and full production capacity. I’ve been running GOMACO machines for 15 plus years and I won’t go anywhere but GOMACO. GOMACO is a great company and so is their distributor here in British Columbia, Lonetrack Equipment.

The Best Sidewalk We've Ever Poured, Our New Commander III Is So Quiet
The weight of the machine was one of the selling factors for me. In talking with my finishers, weight allows you to pour a flatter product and they’re telling me this is the best sidewalk we’ve ever poured. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the machine from them.
The isolation of the operator’s platform is a huge improvement because it just makes for operator comfort. The noise reduction is a very good thing, too. I got on this new machine and tried to turn the throttle all the way up because I thought it was just idling it was so quiet. It was at 2200 rpms, full throttle, so that’s a huge plus to all of the guys.
We’ve done quite a bit of what I’d call more difficult logistical projects and we’ve used all GOMACOs. We’ve been all the way back from the Analog to where we are now. It’s a familiarity. It’s a comfort level. It’s a support level. I’ve got the history with GOMACO.
