Linda is a calculating, career-driven woman whose perfect world is shattered when she is seduced and transformed by a vampire-like creature called a nymphomite. Linda becomes a beast, feeding off the energy of orgasmically-charged blood. Convinced that her humanity has faded away, Linda adapts to her new instincts of hunger and sex. She hunts women primarily, for their longer and more frequent orgasms, and becomes a master of prolonging and intensifying their pleasure. But she never expected to find a woman like Jesse, and Linda's decision to spare her life instead of feed off her leads to a shocking turn of events that will make Linda question her beastlike identity and the humanity she thought she had lost.

Initially, I had planned to hide away in a darkened corner, curl up with a nice glass of wine, and enjoy Fireflies in a single setting. It seemed like such a slender book, and I assumed an erotic tale about Nymphomite vampires would simply demand a quick, intense read. I couldn’t have been happier to be wrong. Fireflies is so not your typical, run-of-the-mill lesbian vampire story – for such a short read, it’s surprisingly deep, and entirely satisfying.

At its core, this is the story of three very different women. Linda is a career-driven woman, with a life that’s just a bit too perfect, who stubbornly clings to her own humanity following her transformation. Natasha is the vampire who turned her, and who laments the loss of her own humanity. Jesse is the passionate, free-spirited artist who, upon being turned by Linda, chooses to reject humanity and embrace the monster inside. Lacey clearly demonstrates that the line between humanity and monster is not as distinct as we’d like to think, and it’s in the blurring of the two that the story finds its depth.

Despite that depth, this is a very fast-paced story, full of frantic action, and sublimely erotic scenes of lesbian arousal. It’s also a story that’s often amusing, in an ironic smile kind of way, especially with Linda repeatedly wandering naked through the city. The language here is beautiful, with words selected (particularly in the more erotic scenes) to be both subtle and powerful, without being rudely explicit.

The first-person perspective of Linda adds a sense of immediacy to everything that happens, and almost demands that we exhibit the same superhuman stamina in following her from one encounter to another. This limits our experience a bit, denying us any insight into what the other characters are thinking, but it’s a narrative technique that works well here. At times exhilarating, and at times exhausting, Fireflies is a story that engages the reader physically, emotionally, and intellectually.

Whether she chooses to revisit the fireflies and Nymphomites again, or takes her talents in a completely different direction, Lacey Reah is certainly an author to keep an eye on.

ADULT BOOK = ADULT REVIEW
Ok where to start.... ugg, I hate writing bad reviews without something constructive to say.
I think I picked this up for free with a smashwords coupon from a thread so I wasn't expecting much but please, please, please can someone tell me the point to this madness??????
So I am not a huge fan of girl/girl stuff, sue me I like a man or two (or three)thrown into the mix but whatever I can deal with the f/f aspect of the story. Women are beautiful sensual creatures yup yup I candle handle that. But Linda (our female lead) is so shallow and unbelievable I couldn't stomach it. Add in it's written in her pov and then she turns into this "beast" and all we get is "I stealthily sneak into the nearest subway station" "I jump" "I leap" I I I I I I.... I want to blow her brains out!

Ok I guess let me put the brakes on a bit. Linda is a perfect Manhattanite with a great job, a wonderful handsome husband, and a 10 to top it all off. It drives her crazy when her husband lovingly jokes that she is "perfect". She goes into central park one night to watch fireflies and gets seduced by Natasha. Natasha is a "nymphomite" which for all intent and proposes is a Vampire/Succubus. Not so bad eh? Seems like we might get a little PNR fun and sex out of the story? Wrong! I am sure there is some redeeming message in this POS for us all to learn from... you know something like be happy with what you have or something but you have to shovel through so much shit that I doubt you will get that message.

So you say but but but WHAT ABOUT THE SEX??!?!?!?
The main character is so annoying and shallow that I wanted to kill her by the end of the book much less did I enjoy her sexual conquests/murders.

I am truly sorry to the author if you ever see this review I have no idea why I picked this story up, it was obviously not for me and I can usually find SOMETHING I liked about the story to focus on because I am an optimist.

But it was not meant to be.

Fireflies by Lacey Reah starts of fast paced and just goes from there. The book is a little more erotic than I normally read, but not so over the top that it was impossible to read. Though I wouldn't recommend reading it around kids or at work:) My 9 year old grabbed it out of my purse and asked some awkward questions after reading two sentences.
Linda is the main character and this story is told entirely in her point of view, while this works for most books, I was left wondering what was going on with other characters in the book ( Pierre, Natasha, and even Jesse), even though Natasha and Pierre are brought up towards the end of the book, I feel that more could have been done with them.
The fast pace of the book can at times be confusing but the imagery that Lacey paints with her words is wonderful. At times I felt as if I was seeing what Linda was seeing and feeling what the other minor characters of the book were feeling. There is a lot of sexual acts in the book, but not so many that it takes away from anything in the book, a lot of the more graphic parts are really skipped over which is a great thing ( makes you imagine what you think is happening). The wording of the sexual scenes aren't graphic and Lacey uses so many different words to describe the anatomy instead of the more common words used, which makes for a safer read in my opinion.
The issues that Linda faces after she is turned into a Nymphomite, not knowing exactly what she is or how to really survive; not having money and having to scavenge for clothes from her victims, and in the end falling for Jesse only to have her turn against her; I could see her humanity slipping and then watching her gain it back after meeting Jesse was amazing.
Fireflies is a very quick read at only 95 pages, but it will leave you wanting more!!

At the start readers are confronted with Linda, a woman who likes to go out alone and watch the fireflies play around in the dark, but she gets more than she expected to when she stays out too long. Her husband worries about her safety, but Linda is sure that nothing untoward will happen to her as long as she is careful. Lacey informs us that Linda is afraid of no one, not when she can use martial arts to her advantage and can ward off men twice her size with her abilities. She gives off a grace and defence that is almost superhuman, yet also sexy.

Linda is a woman who has gone through a transformation, she has an admiration for her own kind, even going so far as to consider making love to other women after her husband, Pierre had got her to admire her own femininity. When she has taken her stroll that night she sees a woman who she admits is otherworldly, strange, yet beautiful who fits the stereotype of vampires with red eyes and harbouring desires of the flesh. The fireflies are a metaphor for a woman's sexual interest in other men or women, and, of course, the desire to feed, as the woman Linda meets has for her. Her questions only go so far as to find out if she is up for being seduced by her and being her nourishment. As their conversation has intrigued her, they give their names, hers being Natasha, a strange name for someone so foreign. Fireflies are beautiful, Linda finds out, but when Natasha mentions the nymphomites, she instantly wants to know more.

The nymphomites live in the shadows, in the deeper rocks of the park, and at no point during their conversation does Linda get nervous or fearful as she is aware of her own strength, and so Natasha as she's the one doing the wooing. We find out that Linda is satisfied with having Pierre as her lover, he has the perfect moves, impresses her in bed and out, makes her happy when she is sad, but most of all he proves to be her life partner, but it doesn't stop her giving in to these nymphomites when they come to take her.

Fireflies is a delicious story of sensual delight and sexual expectation of a woman's natural bisexual nature and it unfolds in a way that can be enlightening and disastrous to others. I enjoyed this story and would advise readers to keep an eye out for other titles by this writer.

Please note: I originally read and reviewed this in August, 2011. I'm editing this to fit in my current format and add a disclosure.

Disclosure: I received a free ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Genre: Lesbian erotica/Vampires
Reading Level: Adult (ADULT!!)
Recommended for: If you're looking for vampire, lesbian erotica.

My Synopsis: Fireflies is about a woman named Linda. She is in a good relationship with a terrific man, but she feels restless – something needs to change. One night, she goes to watch the fireflies in the park and meets Natasha, a mysterious, beautiful, red-eyed woman – and by the next night, Linda has changed. She needs the blood of someone in the throes of ecstasy in order to survive. Natasha warns her not to bother with men – their climax is too short-lived. Women, on the other hand, can maintain climaxes for long periods of time … women can provide sustenance. She is content with her new life – until she meets Jesse, who changes everything.

My Thoughts: Essentially a work of lesbian erotic, Fireflies is evocative and lushly detailed, the descriptions giving vivid life to this story of transformation, change and longing. Those who enjoy erotic stories, especially those involving women, should enjoy this story.

My wife got me reading this book and I got into it right away. To be honest, it did wonders for our sex life. The erotica scenes were awesome and really stuck with me. I've read it more than once.

Not a typical vampire novel

This one is absent of any cliches and delivers a fresh treatment of the question of the value of life and humanity.

Lacey Reah's Fireflies opens with the narrator, Linda, walking through Central Park, captivated by the fireflies that come out at night. There she is willingly seduced and transformed by a vampire-like creature known as a nymphomite.

The book gets off to a quick start, and from the Central Park scene jumps right into Linda's new life as a nyphomite. These creatures drink blood from their victims, but can only properly feed if the victim is in the throes of an orgasm at the moment of feeding.

Linda holds no grudge against the creature that changed her; she doesn't, in fact, hold onto any kind of nostalgia for her life as a human, and goes through a nightly routine of hunting, seducing, and feeding, and she is, if not happy, at least occupied.

This changes when she meets, and transforms, a woman named Jesse, who subsequently lashes out at her, condemning her for turning her into a nyphomite, instead of simply killing her. For the first time since being changed, Linda feels something human within her, and is forced to contemplate what she left behind in her first life.

Reah keeps the action moving along at a fast pace, while exploring the various moods and emotions Linda struggles with in her new form. It's about halfway into the 95-page book that Linda is confronted with Jesse and what she's done to her. Soon, the complacent but active character we've been with for the first fifty pages transforms, and what we have is a wounded, suddenly regretful vampire, who even takes a shot at going home, knowing there's no future for her there.

It isn't easy to make a sympathetic character out of someone who happily sucks the blood out of anybody who looks like easy prey, but Reah pulls it off pretty well. Linda is pretty much doomed from the beginning, and by the second half of the story, you wish there was some way out for her, despite her easy adoption of her new bloody appetite.

Fireflies is available in paperback and e-book formats, and can be purchased at the folowing links. The Lacey Reah/Fireflies myspace address is listed below.

When I was a kid, I found fireflies very fascinating. When I was at my aunt’s house, in the mountains, I couldn’t wait to see them and every night was an exciting event. Now, after reading this book, I’m totally intrigued by them!

I’m usually more pro dialogues than descriptions and there were lots of those in here, but I honestly found that a good thing and not just because of the sex scenes, but because seeing and feeling all from Linda’s perspective helped me to be closer to her. It was interesting observing the change and try to put myself in her shoes. What would I have done? Would I have been capable to do what she has done for all that time? Without knowing much about my new “condition”? And, more importantly, always alone? This is Linda’s real problem. She doesn’t want to be alone, but it seems she can’t do much to change that and, of course, it’s terribly depressing for her, but also so frustrating for the reader who keeps asking what she’s gonna do until the very end . . .

This all female Erotic/Paranormal book was a pleasurable reading and I really liked the author’s writing style, clear, sensual and inviting.

I received a free copy of this book from the Author for an honest review. This does not affect in any way my opinion of the book nor the content of my revieworiginally posted on Darkest Sins.

This book is destined to be a cult classic. It is nothing like anything I have ever read. The idea behind the “nymphomite” is unique in of itself. Anyone who has ever wanted to seduce a woman to the point of no return can learn a thing or two from the lead character. On top of that, there are some real literary elements in this story that transcends its pornographic appeal. It has a real plot. There is a reason why the sex is involved. This is not a story where a pizza man delivers a pizza and ends up on the couch with two college co-eds. The sex scenes are a natural reaction for a vampire who needs to suck the blood of a woman who is at the height of climax. It’s a logical, believable reason.
Characterization is the strongest part of this story. I became emotionally connected to Linda as she reflects on her life, her motivation, and her relationships. Linda’s character progression throughout the manuscript is archetypical, in a way. She loses her sense of civilization (as is symbolized by her nudity and her raw sexuality) and pulls within herself. Lacey Reah has done a remarkable job in creating many layers of nuance and symbolism in this story. The story and characters have dimensions and layers that are generally unseen in the erotica genre.
I hope to hear more from Lacey Reah. This book was a pleasant surprise for me and a very satisfying adventure.

I liked the surreallity of the story. The storyline could have been smoother - each chapter feels like an ending when it's not, the story ends abruptly without giving the reader a satisfactory (or any) conclusion. There is some really nice language in it and it's a a refreshing take on vampirism. I'll checkout other works by this writer.

Not for the "Twilight" set. This is on a far more carnal level. Good read, fast. If I had a problem it's that it's too short - I'd love to see it fleshed out, no pun intended, or see a sequel. There's no question who the character is, and there is enough character development to keep it from being boring. I want more. If you don't like girl/girl this isn't for you.

If you can get past all the girl on girl action, it's actually pretty good. The woman who has everything, but still feels like something is missing. Mostly about sex, but not because she wants to get freaky with every woman she sees. It's the only way for her to survive after being turned. I liked it and would like to read what happens next.

I liked this short story, it started with a fast clip to it and that kept up through the whole tale. It was erotic and sensual and took my breath away at times. A real treat and a story I would tell my friends about.
