Vonda writes with so much passion, you can feel like you are right there in the mist of what’s happening and that’s what drew me to love this book even though I wanted to slap the heroine silly before it was over, but I’ll get back to that in a bit. As most of you know paranormal romance is my forte in reading, I do like historical but they have to hit me right in some areas that I am picky in, this one hits me right in all the right ways , I was very impressed and screaming for more.

I really don’t think I have the words that express this story. It was fun, exciting and dangerous with the added right spice between the hero and heroine, it was fantastic. The only downside I found was I wanted to slap Gwyneth silly before it was all over. She was very hard headed and didn’t want to take Alasdair’s advice. He done everything for her and she seemed to want to throw it all aside. So you get some tension between them before its all over. I do feel I need to stress Gwyneth does have her reasons for being like she is with everything she has went through in her life. I loved the fact the heroine is not a virgin and the hero loved his first wife so much so he keeps his pants up unlike his brother in every ladies petticoat LOL. Oh yeah, he is going to be interesting to read.

Alasdair and Gwyneth are a great couple they have a lot of passion for each other. The sexual tension is there but it takes a bit for these two to get it going. I want to add the author didn’t go over board on the sex, I felt there was just the right amount without filling the pages up with it.

This is one book that when you read it you might find yourself asking, “why isn’t this in mass paper back?” Well, I have no real clue why this author chose to go this route but I will say I am proud that she did. This way she can control her destiny. I know a lot of authors are going to start choosing this option as the publishers get pickier. So don’t let this stop you from trying this book because I couldn’t put it down, I read it in one day. I highly recommend this one to any romance reader.

This was a cute read. A girl can never say no to braw men in kilts saving the day. There was plenty suspense, steam and obvious villains, and I found myself sufficiently entertained. Gwyneth veered from shy and quiet to suddenly fierce and risking her life unnecessary. Alasdair, per the norm, was strong, smart and kind with a possessive streak the size of entire Highlands. I found most characters likable and relatable. The overabundance of flowery worded intimate encounters was a bother by the time I reached about 70% of the book as well as insta love they got going between them. (everything happens within a couple of weeks period of time culminating in pregnancy the signs of which are very obvious to Alasdair, hmmm, I wonder how) But the fast pace and extremely obvious and extra obnoxious villains made up for some of my irritation with their vengeful monologues and evil plans that would in the end spectacularly fail, as they wont to do. Overall, this was enjoyable if mildly annoying at times historical romance. I will probably continue with the series because a - it's mildly entertaining; b - it's on KU; and c - men in kilts.

I have never read a Vonda Sinclair book and boy am I glad I read this book.

Yes, I know that this story line has been done before but I truly enjoyed it. I read a review at Amazon after I started this book saying .....

The love scenes in this story are few, and are sophisticated, penned for the mature reader.

Those of you who know me, know that I like heat in my romances. I figured there was only going to be one, maybe two good love scenes in this book because of that review. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the overall heat level in this book because while it was not an erotic book, the last 60% of the book had MANY loves scenes and were very well done plus had plenty of heat. I have to wonder what that reviewer was reading.

LOVED that in this book it was the hero who was first to say I love you and also got the broken heart. I absolutely LOVED Alasdiar. That's not to say that I did not like the heroine Gwyneth, I loved her too. Really great characters that made a great story of passion, honor, love, kindness, strength, courage and so much more. I have to also mention the villains. There was more then one but in the end they got their cumupets and we get a wonderful HEA ending, sigh.

This book also had some good action to it, I like action in my book's, I really don't care much for book's when the story is all in one place with no movement.

This for me was a Scottish Romance at it's best. I am jumping right into book 2 My Wild Highlander where we get Alasdair's younger brother Lachlan's story.

Ugh.
Why did i waste my life on this book
It was... so flawed

So here's how the romance went
Gwyneth: I'm a sinful harlot-whore-seductress-temptress-evil-slutbag original sin is my downfall I can never be seduced.
Alasdair: *Breathes*
Gwyneth: I'm so wet rn yummy yummy want his penis inside me NOW. BUT I MUSN'T GIVE INTO HIS SEDUCTION I AM A HARLOT
Alasdair: I feel so guilty for looking at her this way but she's so beautiful, but I must be honorable
1 second later
Alastair: HOLD UP I ACTUALLY WANT HER NAKED AND PREGNANT WITH MY BABY SO LET ME JUST FUCK HER RIGHT NOW SO SHE'LL GET PREGGERS AND BE FORCED TO BE MY WIFE
Gwyneth: AAahhhh that felt amazing just had great sex and my first orgasm wow I'm so happy, but THIS CAN NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN
Alastair: *Breaths*
Gwyneth: I'M SO FUCKING TURNED ON
Alastair: Let me put my big orgasm-inducing penis in you right now
Gwyneth: OOOHHH SEX FEELS SO GOOD!! But, it can never happen again I mustn't give in

this was me during so much of this novel, I really wanted to just stop reading it but I don't like dnfing a book. So I just weathered through it even though there was so much I disliked

but wait there's more

it happens again and again and honestly this book was exhausting

So, I guess I was super disappointed because the premise seemed very exciting and the ratings were very high! I love highlander romances, and don't mind insta love but this was just so far fetched and boring and terrible I couldn't like it.

The beginning was very good, she rescues him and nurses his injuries, which was fine. But it went down hill pretty fast and I found myself skimming after like 20%. What was weird was the author tried to make it seem like she couldn't help this undeniable attraction towards him, so she was like checking him out while he was injured. But the worst part, was that this was supposed to be a traumatized, ostracized heroin... But she didn't act like one. Author Vonda Sinclair described her characters as one way but their actions spoke differently. The characters were just so boring and lacked real depth, not because of the story, it was honestly her writing style. They all just seemed so wooden, and everything was really forced.

Again, the plot was good, and had a lot of potential. It was the writing that I really did not like. She lacked nuance when describing the characters and I was so over it. I wasn't rooting for anyone. There were no side characters I enjoyed. And the things the h/h did were so weird!. Like one second, he's convincing himself he can never love her or look at her because he feels like he's betraying his dead wife, but literally in the NEXT SCENE he's like, oh I'm just gonna grab her boob and of course she melts in his hands because he's so perfect and beautiful and seductive.

Please. I couldn't stand it, especially when this one scene happened, where (to avoid spoilers I'll be vague), but her son was in grave danger, and Alasdair and her literally have sex AGAIN. During this highly stressful time when a mother should NOT be feeling that way when her son's life is in danger. Their reactions were so unrealistic!

And the son!
The most unrealistic 5 year old I have ever met in my life I swear honestly that part in some ways was worst than the atrocious writing style lol. He was cute, but so so far fetched.

ugh
I'm over it. Maybe I'll try one of her novels again in the future but not anytime soon.

This book starts off strong. I started around 10pm and ended up reading it straight through til 2am! I kept saying to myself “As soon as I find a stopping point, I’ll put it down,” but I just kept on reading.

The heroine, Gwyneth Carswell, is the daughter of an English earl. But she was taken in by a handsome lord who said the right things, and when he left her ruined, and pregnant, her father sent her to live with some distant relatives in the Highlands. She was 17 and pregnant, and that cousin was chief of the clan MacIrwin, and married her to one of his men. In Gwyneth’s mind, her son now had a last name, and she would never let her sensual side lead her again. She was a very timid heroine, who had been mistreated by men her whole life (when you get a glimpse of her father, you understand that it wasn’t just her abusive husband, and wasn't only physical abuse). She refuses to go by “Lady” Gwyneth trading down instead for Mistress Carswell, feeling that blending in and not bringing forth her shame and previous station would be best. She even names her son Rory, even though he’s English, so that he will blend in more.

The hero, Alasdair MacGrath, is injured when the MacIrwin chief plays at wanting peace, but ambushes the MacGrath party instead. Gwyneth has become a healer since the death of her husband, and when she finds Alasdair, she can’t just let him die. But she has to hide him, or risk death.

Alasdair leaves, but is almost caught-so when he fights one of the MacIrwin men, that man tells Donald, the chief and her cousin. They do trace him back to her, burning her home down, and killing the healer, who lived with her. Luckily she escaped...and where did she run? Straight to MacGrath of course!

I loved Alasdair. From the first moment, to the last, I loved him. Gwyneth drove me nuts a few times, especially in her constant rejections of Alasdair. By the last few pages, which I couldn't turn fast enough, I really was angry with her for her decisions. BUT, I also know why she did it, and I know that she really needed to see that what she thought she wanted wasn't necessarily what she wanted.

I did like the ending, and I did like how not every villain was sent off to jail with a tidy nice bow on the end. I'm not saying what really happened, but it worked.

This was my first Vonda Sinclair read, and it won't be my last. The Highland Hussy decrees that Ms. Sinclair is a fantastic writer, who brought so much of the reality of fighting and feuding Highlanders to the pages, that it was easy to visualize, and sympathize with Gwyneth.

4 Stars! The story’s been done before, but it was different enough to make it unique. I love the “fierceness” and compassionate nature of Alasdair, and Gwyneth’s strength and determination. They are a charming, compatible couple. You get a good dose of Lachlan, Alasdair’s brother, a funny delightful lady’s man, in other words a “manwhore”, and I look forward to reading his book too!

I forgot that I read this and then Kathleen reminded me. What is wrong with me??

Gwyneth Carswell was banished to the Scottish Highlands six years ago after a scandal in England. Now living as a healer with her young son Rory she wishes for nothing more than a life of peace for him, yet with her cousin’s clan the MacIrwins she knows that is an impossibility. Always at war with the MacGrath’s, Gwyneth has stayed far from the skirmishes until she happens upon a fallen warrior of the neighboring enemy. Unable to turn away she hides him and nurses him back to health, risking her own life and that of her son’s. When her cousin learns of her treachery though, Gwyneth must flee to the MacGrath’s lands hoping that the fierce warrior she saved will protect them both.

Laird Alasdair MacGrath seeks only peace for the clan he is chieftain to, wishing to end a two-hundred year feud with the MacIrwins, he offers a peace treaty only to be ambushed and injured. Waking up to what must be a fairy, Alasdair recovers and untrusting with his surroundings returns home. But he can’t get the blue-eyed beauty out of his head and when she shows up in his keep he offers her his home and his protection. Broken hearted from the loss of his wife several years ago Alasdair is not looking for love but he cannot fight the magnetic attraction her feels towards Gwyneth though it seems that she can! Determined to win her heart Alasdair fights the most important battle of his life, but when it comes down to him or her son how is Alasdair ever to win?

Vonda Sinclair captures the excitement and magic in romance with My Fierce Highlander! Her vivid story telling brought the Scottish Highlands to life with detail and accuracy. The language used was not complicated if you are unaccustomed to Scottish Romances, just enough of that sexy brogue and Gaelic to make you tingle.

Sinclair delivers a plot that is enticing and moved fluidly with captivating characters full of dimension that were brought to life on the pages. The romance was balanced nicely with action and suspense. I was caught breathless during the most romantic scenes ever, being drawn in by Alasdair and Gwyneth’s sizzling chemistry and fiery passion. Then brought to desperation, my heart wrenching along with the characters, when Alasdair and Gwyneth reached their lowest; and my heart soared when they finally found their HEA. I was glued to this riveting story start to finish and did not want it to end.

The secondary characters of Gwyneth’s son Rory (BTW, I just love that name), who was absolutely adorable and a key element to the novel, and Alasdair’s brother Lachlan along with the rest of his clan were all interesting in their own right and the ending left a nice little set-up for the next book in the series about Lachlan called My Wild Highlander, which seriously intrigued me. I would recommend this book to all Scottish romance lovers or romance/historical romance readers in general. A superb read that all you highlander hussies out there won’t want to miss! ;)

I picked this book up as a freebie on Amazon and added the audiobook companion for $1.99.

This book was decently written, it was just…boring.

The story begins with the heroine, the English Lady Gwyneth, finding an unconscious man from a rival Highlander clan following a skirmish on her own clan’s land. The ruler of her clan, a distant relative named Donal MacIrwin, is cruel to his own people and she has no loyalty to him. She finds a peace treaty in the unconscious Scot’s pocket and decides to save his life so she hauls him back to her home where she and her friend Moira live along with Gwyneth’s young son Rory. Her own husband died in a previous battle, so she is a widow. However Gwyneth’s history is a little complicated – she apparently became pregnant by an English Lord out of wedlock, which was quite the scandal. When said Lord shuns her, she’s banished by her father to the Highlands where she’s married off and her new husband raises Rory as his own. Sounds sweet and all that, except the new husband is abusive and married her for his own conniving reasons. So it’s not that tragic that he’s dead by the time we start our story.

When the unconscious Highlander awakens we learn that he’s Laird Alistair MacGrath, head of the rival clan. He and his men were ambushed after attempting to broker a peace meeting with the MacIrvins– hence, the presence of a peace treaty in his pocket.

Anycrap, Alistair and Gwyneth have an immediate chemistry according to their internal dialogue, but he takes off in the middle of the night for his own clan’s land. The MacIrwins see him escaping and trace Alistair back to Gwyneth’s cottage where they burn it down and murder Moira. Gwyneth and Rory run for their lives and end up on Alistair’s land, where he takes them in. Many people in Alistair’s clan aren’t too happy about this.

The next 50% of the story is Alistair and Gwyneth internal monologuing about their feelings for each other, with a few skirmishes thrown in to cause more conflict between the clans, and a side plot in which Rory’s real father concocts a scheme to steal his son from Gwyneth as he’s no longer able to produce an heir for whatever reason. But mostly we get to listen to Gwyneth’s excuses why she can’t be with Alistair, despite having amazing sex with him on more than one occasion. There’s only so many times you can listen to her shame and anxiety about being socially shunned for hooking up with another dude out of wedlock. I understand this is historical romance, and a very different time for sexuality, but Gwyneth comes across like a total limp noodle who has to poop on everyone’s party. Even when Alistair asks her to marry him she whines and acts conflicted, saying she wants Rory to have a good life outside of the Highlands, and blah blah blah. Then she hooks up with Alistair yet again, and we get to hear about her post-coital guilt, again.

Gwyneth is a very tiresome character, and the slowly-built side plot combined with a hasty resolution that still somehow manages to seem drawn out made this feel like the book that would never end. At under 250 pages it should have been a quick read, but by the time I had less than 20 pages to go I was near ready to tear my hair out.

Maybe a feistier, more interesting main female character and better executed climax and resolution would have made this book a little more exciting. But as it was, 2.5 stars is all I can give.

*4.5 of 5 Stars*

I began reading this book late one evening, and I couldn't put it down. I quickly became absorbed in the story and every time I told myself I would put it down at the next chapter, I kept reading. Gwyneth is a widow and a disgraced English Lady. After her disgrace, she was sent to live with distant relatives in Scotland, who treated her like a commodity. Elisabeth hates violence, especially the Highlanders who do nothing but fight. However, when she finds Alasdair and sees that he truly wants peace, the only thing she can do is help the wounded highlander heal. When her relatives find she helped the enemy, she has to run for her life with her son and hope that the wounded Highlander will help her. Alasdair is the Laird of his clan, and grateful for the help Gwyneth gave him. He agrees to help her, but keeping her with him is a difficult task, especially when her clan is willing to kill to get her back.

Gwyneth is an intriguing character. She is a Lady who has adapted very well to her life's circumstances. She went from being a well-educated English Lady to a poor relation of a dirty, mean Scottish Clan Laird. She handles the situation well, she makes due, raises her son the best she can, and she learns how to be a healer. The main issue I have with Gwyneth is that she is pretty over-protective of her son. She hates the violence so much and wants to be away from it so badly that she can overlook some of the more important aspects of life, such as a good man who loves her son.

I love Alasdair, he is a laird who puts his clan first and he is very honorable. Alasdair struggles with his attraction to Gwyneth because he loved his first wife (who died) so much. He has to let go of the past and risk himself when it comes to Gwyneth. I admire him for his dedication and his loyalty. He challenges Gwyneth to be the woman he knows she can be, the Lady.

As I said, I couldn't put this book down. The pacing is excellent, there is never a dull moment and there are so many different elements to this story. Gwyneth has a past from England and from her clan that clash with her current situation. There is always something happening, going wrong, and the attraction between Alasdair and Gwyneth progresses through it all.

My Fierce Highlander is a thrilling adventure and love story enmeshed in the times of warring Highland clans and stuffy English Lords. Historical romance readers, I highly recommend reading My Fierce Highlander, this is a highlander story worth reading.

That was an AWESOME Highlander story

Lots of passion, laughs, sadness, action, twists and turns to boggle your mind.

The moment I started reading this I could not put it down, absolutely amazing read. Right up there with all the great Highlander novels.
The only dissapointing thing was that it had to end and I really didnt want it to, I was gladly relieved that there is a second and third installment.

Gwenyth is a wonderful female lead character, she is strong, loving and interesting. She just wants to protect her son and be with Alasdair, but the obstacles and the terrors she must face are dramatic and heart racing.
Alasdair is HOT, strong and a gentle loving man. He wants peace for his clan and he wants and needs Gwenyth with such passion it scorches your eyes out.
These two are completely made for each other there are some really beautiful scenes between them both.
You feel their love grow throughout the story and their becoming a family is very believeable.

The imagery in this story is so beautiful you really feel apart of the landscape as well as the characters lives. The authors writing style is also worth a mention she has an amazing and elegant style that captures you from the very beggining and makes you hold on with everything youve got till the very end, where you still wont want to let go.

This story is in no way predictable just when you think something is going to happen something out of the blue knocks you right outta there. Its is really action packed and the twists and turns make it a worthy read.

Loved it am really looking forward to the next installment Lachlan story - Alasdair's brother

I'm just going to go ahead and give this book all the stars. I haven't read a historical romance in quite sometime; maybe literal years and I don't remember how I came across this one but I thoroughly enjoyed it! It hit all my boxes that I like in a histrom:

-sexy Scottish Highlander who has experienced loss but has a big ole caring heart and speaks Gaelic on the regular and even without a translation I understood you Alasdair

-heroine who has experienced some terrible men in her past but is strong and has an inner sensuality waiting for the right one to release it in it's entirety. She's also good with her hands (more below)

-set in the Scottish Highlands where the English are dirty Sassenachs

Alasdair McGrath is at war with the McIrwins. His father was killed by them but since he became Laird he's wanted nothing but peace for his clan. In a squirmish with the McIrwins he's injured and Gywneth finds, beings him into her home and heals him. He's confused why she would help her enemy but she's a healer and it's just what healers do.

Alasdair escapes back to his land but then Gywneth finds herself on the receiving end of her cousins wrath and flees with her son to McGrath lands. She hopes to work long enough until she can move to the Lowlands with a permanent position but the more she stays near Alasdair the more she wants him and he her.

"He was a charmer in the guise of a whiskered barbarian, and unfortunately, she was not immune."

The writing is fantastic. I loved every minute of this book and it was really hard to put down. The romance is fiery and I want to learn Gaelic now. I will definitely continue the series and highly recommend.

My Synopsis:
Gwyneth Carswell was banished to the Highlands to live with her distant relatives, the MacIrwin after she was compromised by the Marques of Southwick. After six years living in the brutal Highlands she is still baffled by the brutality of the men and women of the Highlands. Her kin’s clan is always in some bloody battle with the neighboring clan MacGrath. All Gwyneth wants is to return back to England and raise her son, Rory. She does not want her kin Laird MacIrwin to recruit Rory and train him to fight. During one of these battles that take place near her cottage where she works as a healer with her friend Mora, Gwyneth finds a lone survivor in the field. The lone survivor is carrying some kind of peace treaty and had fine clothes. Gwyneth realizes that the lone survivor could possibly be the Laird of the clan MacGrath. Being a healer she makes the decision to keep him hidden and help heal him. Gwyneth is instantly drawn to this mystery man. During her days of healing him she comes to care for him.

Laird Alasdair MacGrath realizes he's been captured by the enemy. To protect himself he lies to Gwyneth about who he is in case she decides to turn him over to the Laird MacIrwin. Alasdair realizes that the bloody battles between his clan and MacIrwin will never end. He was tricked by the MacIrwin and ambushed in the fields as he was riding to meet the MacIrwin to talk about the peace treaty. While Alasdair recovers he finds himself drawn to Gwyneth as well but he knows that his presence has put her in danger. He makes an escape back to his lands never expecting to see her again.

Gwyneth flees for her and her son's life when her kinsman finds out that she was harboring the enemy. She seeks safety with Alasdair. Things become complicated for both as their feelings start to grow for one another. Gwyneth still plans to return to England and Alasdair is not sure he can let her go. Her presence has brought the wrath of the enemy onto his clan, her desire to return to England and an unexpected complications arrives that will make Alasdair's task to keep Gwyneth with him much harder.

My Thoughts:
Vonda Sinclair is a new to me author. I'm always leery of trying new authors out so I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this book. I can honestly say that I liked this book. I liked it enough that I already bought and read the second book in this series. :) The book did start off a bit slow for me and it took me awhile to get into it. The action does start to pick up and things went smoothly from there.

Alasdair is a fine hero. He protects Gwyneth at every turn either from her clansman or from his fellow clansman. He is instantly attracted to her for her strength but knows that she is a lady and fights his baser instinct. Once he realizes there is no hope of ever getting over her he sets about to thoroughly seduce her and seduce her he did. As for Gwyneth she a bit more complicated. She is torn between her growing feelings for Alasdair and her wish to find a better life for her son away from the Highlands. There were moments that I enjoyed Gwyneth's strength and than she had her moments of blind stupidity that just made me want to smack her at times. LOL!

As a couple these two fit together and the scenes where they interact is filled with major sexual chemistry. Their story moved at a believable pace and the dialogue kept me reading. I loved the secondary characters in this book. Lachlan, Alasdair's younger brother was such a flirt and a man whore. I couldn't help but love him. Rory, Gwyneth's son was an absolute cutie. Usually kids in books annoy me but I thought Rory's character was well written and added to the storyline. The bad guys were literally bad. Rory's real father, Southwick and the Laird MacIrwin provided the right villainous conflict to keep the story moving nicely.

Overall I enjoyed this book. I definitely would recommend it for lovers of Highlander stories.

WOW!!!! Vonda takes you on a trip to the Highlands of Scotland. Where we meet two wounded souls, one hurt in a physical battle and the other by mental and physical abuse. They find that they can heal each other, finding love and peace along the way.

My love for Highlanders came at an early age I think that maybe in an earlier life I lived there. I also think it may be my strong Irish ties. Whatever it is I fell in love instantly with Alasdair MacGrath wanting to be the one that finds him on the battlefield and heals his broken body. Fragile Lady Gwyneth Carswell, was used as a pawn by men, until she meets the devastatingly handsome MacGrath.

We find that Gwyneth is banished to the highlands for some reason by her father. Given to distant cousins she is forced into a loveless marriage. She finds herself caught up in the violence of two clans. One is her distant relatives; the other is that of the MacGraths. She is living with Mora, who has taught her the art of healing.

After a fierce battle she hears moaning. Investigating brings Alasdair into her life. She finds that all he wants is peace and that he just may be someone that she can trust. But trusting men comes hard for Gwyneth.

As, the story unfolds we find Mora (who has taught Gwyneth the ways of a healer) killed and Gwyneth and her young son Rory running for their lives and right into the hands or onto the land of the MacGraths. He offers them a safe haven.

As they get to know one another the feelings that were underlying come to the surface. But they have a rough road ahead.

Gwyneth not wanting to cause problems decides to sleep with the servants only to find that her life is in danger as she is stabbed the first night in the MacGrath castle. She is then moved to a better room and Alasdair offers her some of his late wife’s clothing. She becomes in charge of the household.

Stolen kisses and a rather heated afternoon delight leaves you wanting more. More is exactly what you get. Gwyneth wants Alasdair but doesn’t feel that what they have is real. It is just words of a man to get her to do as he wants.

The past comes back and takes them on a journey in search of her kidnapped son and brings them closer together but still at an arm’s reach. Leaving you to wonder what was going to happen next for the lovers.

Over the course of time we find that Alasdair and Gwyneth find that they have more than just a physical relationship (which by the way tends to be rather hot!). Romance so heartwarming and classy, it leaves you wanting more.

From the Scottish burr, the highlands of Scotland, Ms. Sinclair pulls us in and leaves us wanting more. At times I could hear the distant sounds of bagpipes and see the heather dusting the fields of the highlands. I wasn’t able to put this down and read it from start to finish. I look forward to the next book in the series, My Wild Highlander. I would highly recommend this book and would read it again.

Breathtaking!

My Fierce Highlander is like a kiss that near takes your breath away. I am still spellbound from this breath taking story. The writing is absolutely smooth with visionary details that keep you glued to the pages. I read this in a 6 hour stretch smiling the whole time feeling the characters intense emotions in each sentence.

The chemistry between the characters Lady Gwyneth and Laird Alasdair was electrifying as they savored their erotic bond beyond the unthinkable (extremely hot). It had my own arousal stirred as each scene only got more intense as the story progressed.

The secondary characters were just as impressionable as the main characters. Their demeanor showed their humor but with sentiment for what they honored and cared for. The author developed the perfect enemy and I could feel their hatred and want for revenge fuming right off the page. By the end I wanted my own revenge for the enemy and was so glad they got what was due to them in the end.

The plot was a perfect creation climaxing with a heartfelt ending. I actually got teary eyed because one moment Lady Gwyneth was making a huge mistake of sacrificing her own happiness for the wellbeing of her son leaving Laird Alasdair heartbroken which made me furious as hell. But at last reality hits home with a drastic loneliness that about kills her soul and she wakes up and seizes her once in a life time of happiness. I think I held my breath through the whole scenario and about cried with joy in the end. I even hugged the book.

Over all this was an excellent read and I highly recommending this breath taking story (series) to all Historical Romance lovers. I look forward to reading the next book in the series “My Wild Highlander.”

"My Fierce Highlander" is the first book that I've read from Vonda Sinclair. Let me say this...it will not be the last.

A wonderful start to her Highland Adventure series! From beginning to end, Ms. Sinclair captured my attention with the heat of battle and seduction. I shed tears of laughter and sadness as Alasdair and Gwyneth sorted through emotions that at times seemed destructive.

Congratulations, Ms. Sinclair on a well written tale of love and devotion between two characters who were easy to fall in love with.

This is a must read for anyone who is passionate about Scotland and for those who just love an all-consuming love story.

Quick read and hooked me till the last page. I loved Alasdair but I feel wanna slap and shake Gwyneth for her refusing. When she rejected Alasdair, I got angry. Its took her a while to accept and realize how much she love Alasdair. I loved Rory too, his character always make me laugh

Alasdair never though that he would find love again until he met Gwyneth and her son Rory. She saved his life, in return he saved her's. Two proud, strong, and fierce people coming together to find an explosive passion that neither of them expected.

Gwyneth Carswell, the daughter of a wealthy English Earl finds herself banished to the Highlands, to the care of Donald MacIrwin a distant second cousin of her father’s. Believing the words of a smooth talker who had seduced and then dumped her when she had gotten pregnant with his child had been Gwyneth’s downfall, and for the past six years Gwyneth had been living in the Highlands where violence is the norm of life.

For Gwyneth whose gentle upbringing in England had taught her to love peace, rearing her son Rory amidst the constant whirl of violence is a trial in itself. And when she stumbles across the injured man lying in a war torn battlefield, even knowing that harboring the enemy would most likely get her killed or worse, the healer within Gywneth refuses to turn her back on the man who calls to something inside of her that refuses to be denied.

When Laird Alasdair MacGrath, leader of the MacGrath clan opens up his eyes to see a bonny English lass tending to his wounds, he is confused by the tingles of desire that rises forth at the most unexpected moment. Ever since his wife had died two years back, Alasdair had stayed true to the memory of his wife whom he had loved and adored till death had snatched her from his life.

When circumstanced find Gwyneth and her son Rory seeking refuge with the MacGrath clan, the awareness that had sprung forth from that very first day of their acquaintance multiplies until both Gwyneth and Alasdair have no will left in them except to embrace their desire for one another. Gwyneth who has experienced nothing but humiliation and at worse pain at the hands of men, whose banishment from life as she had known it had come because of her wanton desires for a man finds herself trying to resist Alasdair and the temptation he presents at every turn.

Alasdair who vows that he would never fall in love again and make himself vulnerable to an emotion that can tear his world apart finds himself slowly falling into the clutches of just that emotion as Gwyneth and Rory work their way into his heart, body and soul. The fierce desire within Alasdair to claim, protect and cosset Gwyneth surprises even him because of the strength of his feelings towards her, but Alasdair knows that for him, there would be none like Gwyneth ever.

My Fierce Highlander by Vonda Sinclair turned out to be an engaging read and for someone who isn’t much of a fan of Scottish heroes and their kilted form, I found myself imagining the sexy, handsome and vibrant Alastair with a kilt and just nothing else. Alastair is such a devastating hero, devastating I say because he makes no pretense of his feelings towards Gwyneth, doesn’t hide behind anger and resentment because of his feelings towards Gwyneth that makes him such a delicious hero. Though at times I cringed a bit from all the flowery compliments he bestows on Gwyneth, it is apparent right from the very start that when it comes to Gwyneth, Alastair would lay down his very life to protect her and her son.

Gwyneth survives in the Highlands because for her son Rory who means the world to her, she would do just about anything. Even if it means marrying a man twice her age, who is abusive at most or seeking refuge from the enemy until she can provide the kind of life she dreams of for her son, Gwyneth is prepared to do all that and more. The one hitch in her well laid plans comes from her desire to possess and be possessed by the only man who has ever stirred her senses and leaves her wanting more with each encounter.

But Gwyneth is a woman who is willing to sacrifice even her own happiness for the well being of her son and the turmoil she faces when Rory’s father plunges them into mayhem amidst the war and treachery from the MacIrwin’s clan nearly drives her into committing to spending the rest of her life in a loveless marriage, yearning for the fierce touch of her highlander.

Alastair proves time and yet again that he is willing to move heaven and earth to keep Gwyneth by his side and though Gwyneth keeps turning him down at every turn, Alastair still keeps coming back for more until the very last encounter drives him away from her with his heart torn into pieces, with her memories keeping her image very much alive in his mind.

I right about gave up on Gwyneth almost towards the end of the book, but decided to forgive her because she makes up for it at the end, proving her love and loyalty to a man who deserves all that and so much more.

Highly sensual and romantic with constant adventure to keep the adrenaline running, My Fierce Highlander by Vonda Sinclair rates as a great read, recommended for fans of the genre, and those who love a fierce yet tender hero who looks mighty fine in a kilt at any given time.

If you read My Fierce Highlander and enjoy it like I did, you would be left wanting to know more about Lachlan, Alastair’s younger brother who could charm the very devil, whose story has already been published this August. Now to find the time to read his story is the one teeny tiny problem I am left with

I so wanted to like this book. I love Highland romances, I hadn't read one in a while and based on the reviews this one was going to be great.

Alas. For a while I thought I had read the wrong reviews. Those high ratings couldn't possible be about the same book I was reading.

Alas again.

I found this a very silly romance. The writing is simple, to the point that I sometimes had to laugh out loud at the stupidity. And the constant and repetitve internal dialogue had me skipping entire pages. It felt like it was written by a beginner without someone editing. And why the constant exclamations: 'By the saints', 'God's bones' etc. It really got annoying.

The heroin is the worst. Although his face was covered in mud and blood, she immediately knew he was hansom and a good person: "never had she seen such a striking man" (no spoiler, it's on the second page) Come on! She lived in Scotland for six years and still understood only a little bit of Gaelic... how stupid can you be?
Then she constantly whined about everything. How she was a bad mother, a bad daughter, a bad woman etcetera. And although she is a healer... she gets sick when she sees blood and death. To top it all up. She had a supersilly wish to do good by her son by providing him materialistic things completely ignoring his wishes. Yes, then I guess you're a bad mother and an egoistic one at that. Do I need to add I started to hate her in the end?

So with all this stupidity going on, I really couldn't understand why the fierce Highlanden, for yes, he was indeed fierce, loved her so much.

The bedroom scenes were hot though and I managed to finish this book. So for that: 2 stars. I still wonder why everybody thinks this book is so great. Has nobody read anything by Monica McCarty?

Hatfields & McCoys in the Highlands

Set in 1618 somewhere in the Highlands of Scotland, this is the story of Gwyneth Carswell, an English woman sent to live with a distant cousin (Laird MacIrwin) in the Highlands for the shame she brought to her family. There she has raised her son, who is now five. Married to a man not of her choosing and then widowed, she is surrounded by clan violence. When a clash of the MacIrwins and their enemies, the MacGraths, leave the MacGrath laird wounded, she takes him in at great risk saving his life. Her cousin, the MacIrwin, finds out she has aided the enemy and, even though he knows she is a healer, he seeks to kill her. So, she flees to the MacGraths.

Alasdair, laird of the MacGraths wants only peace and an end to the 200-year-old. For good reason, he does not trust the MacIrwins and now, as a matter of honor, he must shelter the woman who has saved his life.

This is s story of lovers caught between warring clans and a bit of a mystery about Gwyneth’s son, Rory. Alasdair is a worthy hero who wants the best for his people. In the end, Gwyneth must overcome her disdain for the violence of life in the Highlands if she is to have a future there. There are many love scenes as Gwyneth and Alaisdair give in to their strong attraction. The first half is slower than the last but there’s an exciting finish.

I just liked this story. I was really disappointed because I wanted to warm up and like the h more. She was just to much self sacrificing always having internal dialog of guilt every time she hooked up with the H. I loved the H character. He loved the h more than the breath he took and viewed her as being everything to him. She instinctively knew this but still, her guilt was just to over the top. And I understand how emotionally damaged the h was by having been banished by her father because she was pregnant. I also understand after the father of the baby called her very derogatory names refused to marry her. That her mean cousin forced her to marry a cruel, hateful man. I can also understand how when that man died she would finally feel free to live her life and take care of her 6 year old son with the wish to live in peace. But I just feel the guilt was so drawn out. Towards the half way point in the book I tearing my hair out with the guilt.

This is the first time I have read this author. I will try another of her books. As I said liked the story, loved the H along with all the supporting characters in the book. I just hope that the h in this story is not typical of the type of h's this author usually has.

I LOVED this book.

Laird Alasdair MacGrath was injured & left for dead in a battle on MacIrwin land. His people were ambushed attempting to get a peace treaty signed that MacIrwin had agreed to.

Gwyneth Carswel was banished to the highlands several years ago to her cousin MacIrwin due to an "incident" that happened in England. Gwyneth was out searching for herbs when she heard the battle happening. After she went looking to see if anyone survived. She came across a very handsome man.

She wanted to save at least one person from the useless battle no matter if friend or foe.

Alasdair woke in a strange place completly undressed and his wounds tended. He spied a very beautiful woman sitting next to him and was wondering where he was and whom the angle was.

After his enemy came to the place he was hiding out he decide he must leave and not put his rescuer/healer in any danger. He snuck out while the lass was out attending to chores of her own.

Unfortunately her cousin backtracked and found out where Alasdair had been hiding and killed the woman whom Gwyneth & her son had been living with.

Needless to say Gwyneth & Rory fled to MacGrath land to seek the Lairds protection.

It was difficult to get interested at the beginning ... but after awhile, I became captivated by the intensity of the emotional feelings swirling around. As with most highland books I've read, the hero was strong, good looking, and totally dedicated to the heroine. So i was not disappointed. The passion burned brightly, a little too brilliantly in the sexual department. I prefer clean reading.

This book was able to stand on its own, yet draws you toward the second book in the series.

I do prefer the enjoyment of an H.E.A. and this book delivers on that big time!

I listened to the audiobook version of this. I loved the story - the heat between the characters was fantastic. I absolutely loved Alasdair and enjoyed Gwyneth's sweetness and how much she cared about her son. Filled with action and romance and everything that makes a romance novel good - ye ken what I'm saying? ;) The narrator of the audiobook had an awesome Scottish accent that just brought the book to life even more. Not to be missed!
