A Christmas in Time

Rate this book
“YOU ARE INVITED TO MEET THE GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PAST . . .”

In modern-day London, cynical reporter Jason Burke greets his current assignment of covering the Christmas Candlelight Tours with all the “Bah Humbug!” of a true Ebenezer Scrooge. Then a cryptic invitation takes him to the historic Simmons Hotel, where the “ghost” of lovely Annie Simmons leads him on a haunted, poignant tour of the deserted mansion. At once Jason is captivated by his ethereal tour guide, especially when the forlorn beauty tells him that she died on the hotel staircase in 1852, when she learned that her true love deserted her.

Soon Jason is transported back in time to meet the real Annie Simmons as a flesh-and-blood woman, and to experience firsthand the wonder of celebrating Christmas with her in Dickens’s England. But Jason finds he has arrived at a juncture in time only weeks before Annie will die! He has been warned that his time here will be limited, and he fears Annie is under the spell of a rival, a cad who will surely betray her and cause her death! In order to rescue Annie, Jason must resurrect his own nobler nature and recapture the true spirit of Christmas. Can Jason save Annie in time for Christmas? Or will his newfound love for her doom her instead?

A CHRISTMAS IN TIME is a poignant, stirring and intriguing romance of two star-crossed lovers giving their hearts and souls to one another in a Christmas gift for all time. A CHRISTMAS IN TIME is a single anthology novella of approximately 28,000 words.

I read this on the Kindle

I enjoyed this one it was compared to some a short story, but it was a nice romantic story

You have an American Jason who has to write about the Christmas tours of London where they dress in the Victorian period
Jason gets a invite to the Simmon's hotel he goes there & is told a story by the ghost of Annie Simmons & how she died Christmas Eve 1852
When Jason goes back to the hotel he is transported back to a few weeks before that Christmas can he save her
You have to read the book to find out

I really liked Jason and Annie's story and this was a good retelling of A Christmas Carol but instead of 3 spirits, there was only 1. Jason goes back in time to stop Annie Simmons from falling to her death and despite the fact she is betrothed, pursues her and promptly rejects her because he wasn't sure if he was going to remain in the past, thereby setting off a chain of events that would cause history to repeat itself. Does he realize his mistake in time to prevent her death? You'll have to read the book and see for yourself.

It was a nice short little story, but it lacked depth and the characters were very two dimensional. I know it’s a novella, but the insta love was too unbelievable and the ending was lazy and left many things unresolved.

Good Time Travel and Love Story

A US reporter doing a report on Christmas in England visits a haunted house and a female ghost tells him she died in that house. Somehow he goes back in time with the belief that he can save her.

This was a short little book--almost a novelette. It gives nothing away to say it involves time travel.

The emphasis here was on the story, and the history took a bit of a shellacking, to say nothing of the way the American from the 1990s was able to adjust almost instantly to living in Dickens England.

But all I ask of my Christmas themed romances is that they be inoffensive, and not terribly challenging. This fit that bill. Nonetheless, I look forward to the Anne Perry I'm saving to start on Christmas Eve. She knows how to write a Victorian era story!

Jason Burke is a burned out reporter sent to London to write a series about Christmas in London. He gets an invitation to the Simmons Hotel and a haunted tour. When he gets there he is given a tour by the most beautiful ghost. He investigates the hotel and finds out his ghost, Annie Simmons, died there on Christmas Eve 1852. When he goes back to the hotel he was welcomed in for the festivities by a very much alive. He knows he was sent back to save her but could he? This was a warm and tender love story and it will touch your heart.

Cute little story, thought I find it strange that so arrogant a man managed to not only accept being tossed back into Victorian England, but didn't struggle at all with the lack of conveniences expected today.

It is a very sweet story, but as with any short-story - if you're looking for 'depth'...keep moving. This story is PERFECT for someone looking for something short, sweet, and holiday centered.

I love Regency Christmas romances. But not this one. It was ridiculous -- the plot was the least of its problems, though, because the writing was incredibly poor. The author enjoys the word "bemused" and used it so much in this small novella that I was ready to throw my Kindle out the window. The same was true of "Yule." If you're looking for a Christmas romance novel next season, don't pick this one. There are plenty of Regency books that leave this one in the dust.

Not my usual fare, but I really loved this story! It was a good one-sitting Christmas time read while I snugged with my pup by the fire. The older I get, the more sentimental I become.
