Power Games #1

The Wizard's Boy

Rate this book
Sand has no idea when he offers a scared and lost Daniel a home that he has invited a powerful wizard under his roof—until Daniel puts a few stray holes through that roof with bolts of fiery lightning. But Daniel works to master his gifts so he can use them to claim Sand, the man he’s fallen for, pleasuring him with magic.

Sand is looking for a hot night with two dominant lovers when he stumbles on Daniel, a scared kid clinging to his dog, lost on the streets. Sand offers Daniel a home. At first Daniel fries the wiring and sears holes through the roof, echoing the young mage’s pain, but slowly he begins to feel safe and not so alone thanks to Sand’s quiet understanding.

Years later Daniel works for Sand part time at his sensual night club Shifting Sand but he is a surly employee, hating Sand’s many partners. After waiting to claim the beautiful submissive for so long, Daniel tricks Sand into being his. He uses his power to bring Sand willingly to his knees and show the man he’s loved from a distance that Daniel might be young but he’s Sand’s perfect master.

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of sexual dominance.

Loved Daniel and Sand.
Irving is not a good storyteller, though.
Her concept and plot is the best, but her narrative could have been better.

Dear Jan Irving, How The Heck Do You Come Up With This Insanity?!

Every time I read a Jan Irving book there is at least one scene that stops me dead in my tracks and causes me to re-read a paragraph two or three times while I laugh like a fiend.

This particular story is about Sand, a super Slutty McSlutterson being who was made out of sand to be the submissive toy of a wizard. Sand owns the hottest club in town and one night he finds a dirty fifteen year old boy and his dog in an alley. Sand takes the boy, Daniel, in and so begins their story.

As Daniel grows up he becomes a powerful wizard and trains to be a Dominant because he's in love with the subby Sand. Sand resists the attraction until one night, after Sand bites Daniel's wrist and the taste of Daniel's blood makes him orgasm, Sand agrees to go on a date with Daniel.

Let the games BEGIN, bitches!!

SO!! They drive to an out-of-the-way BDSM club and here's the scene....

Daniel: "Out of the truck and get naked out here in the middle of nowhere."
Sand: "Ummm, dude, someone might see me."
Daniel: "Don't worry I've got tricks up my sleeve."
Sand: "'Kay, I'm down with that."

Sand gets out and strips down

Daniel: "And now with my magic fingers and jazz hands I shall create a chastity belt of FIRE with hot flames and an attached butt plug made of FIRE that will go in your ass! Do you feel the FIRE?!"

Sand: "AGGGHHHH! Dude that's fire!! Agghhh! Ohhhh!! OoooOooooo, sexy!"

Sand is so overcome that he falls to the ground as his ass is screwed by fire and his junk is strangled by...wait for it...fire!!

Daniel: "And now I shall brand you with my name. Tah-Dah! Now we go inside and you will kneel in nasty dried spunk and dirt and suck my cock through a glory hole."

I'm just gonna stop right there...this is really the most awesome part of the story. After that I was giggling over that one scene for the rest of the book and kind of don't remember what happened.

Yet another entry on the Crack-Attack shelf. Wheeeee!

In a world where supernatural beings are common, wizards can create their own living toys, and only the strong can keep the peace, very few people show compassion. This story is about a centuries-old being, Sand, who does the unexpected when he rescues a young boy and his dog. Sand believes he has no soul since he was created by a powerful wizard to be a wizard’s toy. But the further the story progressed, the clearer it became to me that he is anything but a soulless man. It takes some doing until he is convinced though. Much like Pinocchio, Sand has to learn and accept that he is as human as the next guy before he can fulfill his potential and be happy.

Sand loves to submit – with his body, not in his mind. For him, it is all about having fun and chasing pleasure, and the more men participate in his exploits, the better. He knows he was made to be a wizard’s toy, but he has no intention of letting that happen. He owns a successful club, beings of all persuasions respect him, and Sand is determined to keep it that way. He knows that his Master may be out there, but he has no desire to make it easy for whoever it turns out to be.

Daniel ran from his father when the brutal wizard demanded he kill his dog. He is only fifteen when Sand finds him and gives him a home. Daniel is different from other wizards, and learning to control his power as he grows into a man is not easy. He also wants Sand to be his boy, but has a very difficult time establishing himself as “worthy’ in Sand’s eyes, even once he has become a man. But Daniel is patient, persistent, and can be very convincing when given the chance. Even so, it takes almost losing Sand for Daniel to be able to prove to him that he is the Master, and Sand the boy in their relationship.

If you like stories about wizards and their issues, if a younger Dom and a much older sub sound interesting, and if you’re looking for a read that is entertaining, hot, and full of surprises, then you might like this novella.

Irving manages to pack quite a bit of eroticism into this all too brief fantasy. After a bang-up sexy ride of 60 or so pages, we're treated to a denouement that gives the word humiliation new meaning. The only negative thing worth mentioning is that there's no sequel in sight.

2.5-3 stars. This was actually a very entertaining story with imaginative characters. Sand, the narrator, was created by a wizard from actual sand to be his boy-toy and never given a real name. He also seems to be immortal and has lived for hundred of years, now running his on sex club and no longer attached to his maker. The homeless boy, Daniel, is a wizard too, and Sand takes him in with his injured dog, giving them a home. Daniel grows into a man and seems to be the dominant that Sand has always craved. Sparks fly literally when they come together.

The BDSM elements were highly creative using magic and the action kept things moving well. The story and writing was a bit disjointed, though, and had me rereading to see if I missed something. If the story were more polished and some of the plot line filled out more (the villain scene was completely glossed over and lost it's impact), this could have been a higher rating.

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. Sand was a great character. Narcissistic and spoiled, he is drawn to the young wizard Daniel when he finds him outside his club one night. Young Daniel was heartbreaking, but grown up Daniel? *fans self* Yeah, pretty hot. ;)

It was nice book and plot is also okay. I really don't read master/slave plots but I kept reading because it was short story and both characters where interesting.

I started this book to check wether it was worth reading or not, and BAM I have read (rather skimmed) all of it. I don't know what it says about the book.

Now I know this is an MM BDSM book, but... I found it sweet. And adorable.

I couldn't help but connect with Daniel because he was just so sweet being faithful, taking care of his dog, and he just pushed all the right buttons for me. Sand was cool. I understand the stuff that he was going through and I understand his struggles so he was an a-okay character for me.

Overall, this book was pretty good. I thought I would have given this a lower rating of 3 stars, but later changed my mind to 4 stars.
