WOW WOW WOW!!!

Aussie author Jaye Ford has nailed it with this book in my opinion. Mystery, thriller, suspense and psychological-thriller fans are going to love this one.

I have only read one other book by this author (Beyond Fear) which I thoroughly enjoyed, but I reckon this one is even better. I was absolutely hooked right from the beginning of this book and there were times when I was literally on the edge of my seat wanting to know what was going to happen next.

Livia Prescott had worked all day and part of the night and she couldn’t wait to go home after a long and tiring day. As she was walking through the car park to get to her car she thought she heard a noise, but wasn’t sure. Before she knew it, Livia felt someone take hold of her and she knew she was in trouble, but Livia fights back harder then all of a sudden her attacker flees leaving Livia battered and bruised.

Was this just a random attack on Livia, being in the wrong place at the wrong time? If so, then why did she start receiving disturbing notes that read. ARE YOU SCARED YET, LIVIA? Was someone just playing a sick joke on her or was her life in real danger?

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. This book truly is a page turner and will keep you guessing right to the end. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. With thanks to the author for my signed digital copy of this book to read and review.

This is a title I had wanted to read for a long time, from an Australian writer that I respect and enjoy. Her female characters are interesting, strong and will always fight for their families. As the author resides not too far from me, it’s great to hear about the little part of Australia that we live in. Her thrillers are always compelling, easy to read and fast paced. Scared yet? is no exception, this is a well written contemporary mystery containing many twisty turns and bends.

Liv runs a successful company with a lifelong girlfriend, she works hard to support her one child, after her husband quickly formed a new life with a mistress. This is a common theme today, and this part of the book was well written, topical and true to life.

Liv begins to become targeted, starting from being attacked in the carpark on her way home. She is rescued by handsome and larger than life man who just happens to have a murky past of his own. He always seems to be around, with a helping hand and getting Liv out of all the stressful and stalkish incidents that keep happening. The detective that becomes involved in this case doesn’t seem to like him, but I was never convinced of the detective character. You know when you get the feeling they are just not grasping a case and aren’t very good at their job? That was my feeling here.

Liv’s ex husband was never going to be responsible for the notes asking if she was ‘Scared yet?’, so I felt that was not an interesting lead. He was a bad husband and an all-round bad guy. Tensions were building, Liv’s friends were being targeted and her young son was passed one of these threatening notes.

I have more books from this author to read, and always do look forward to making my way through them. In this instance it was finally being able to tick one off the ever-growing TBR, which probably been on my list for ten years.

The cover of my audiobook has an error, pertaining to Liv’s shoes. She was wearing stilettos, not sneakers.

3.5 stars rounded up.

Scared Yet? is the second, standalone, psychological thriller from author, Jaye Ford

You would think that a marriage breakdown; a custody dispute; struggling business woes, and, a dying father would be enough for anyone to cope with. Well, Livia Prescott was struggling with all these scenarios in her life and that was before you could add ‘being stalked’ to the list.

After finishing work for the day, Liv Prescott heads off to the underground carpark where she parks her car. But just as Liv makes it to her car, she’s attacked from behind. Her attacker is strong; dressed head to toe in black, including the balaclava covering his face. Although shaken, Liv tries to fight back, getting in a few good kicks and punches. Just when it looks like her attacker might overpower her, the man turns and flees. Confused and terrified, Liv realised that someone else has appeared in the carpark. Someone else has witnessed her being attacked. Daniel Beck works in the same office block as Liz. Hearing screams, Daniel runs to see what’s happening and scares off Liv’s attacker. The good looking ‘good Samaritan’ then takes her to hospital and waits while a doctor tends to her injuries; and then offers to drive her home.

The attack has left Livia battered, bruised, and swollen but thankfully with no serious injuries. Thinking she was the victim of a random attack, Liv is thankful and appreciative for Daniel’s intervention and wants nothing more than to put this incident all behind her.

Unfortunately for Liv, this is just the precursor of what is to come.

She then starts receiving anonymous letters, asking ‘Are you scared yet, Liv?’ It appears as if someone seems to know her every move – where she works; where she lives; and, even where she is when she’s going out. Things begin to escalate. The business premises was broken into, her office was totally ransacked – but none of the other rooms in the office were touched, they remained pristine. A friend is involved in a car accident and is left with severe injuries; another letter intimates the stalker was involved. Then, the firm’s receptionist is involved in an accident and things begin to really ramp up – the stalker is targeting her close friends and loved ones, continually taunting her with notes - “Are you scared yet, Liv?”.

Regarding the secondary characters, I am hesitant to say anything much for fear of inadvertently revealing who is or isn’t a viable suspect. I can say that Ford did a credible job in fleshing out the supporting cast, while ensuring they retained the necessary uncertainty.

Ford cleverly keeps you guessing as to the identity of Livia’s tormentor. To the author’s credit I suspected almost everyone was the stalker at one point or another! The eventual confrontation between Livia and her stalker is explosive, with the conclusion wrapped up in a satisfying bow.

The only weakness for me was that I thought the ‘build-up’ to the final reveal took too long and was mostly repetitive – especially with the notes saying the same thing over and over. 75% in and I was just rolling my eyes and grumbling at my Kindle to ‘hurry up will ya!’.

This definitely did have some tense moments, but for me it was not that chilling and not altogether a thriller.

Liv Prescott has just finished her day at work and leaves the office to head to the underground carpark to go home when she is viciously attacked by a man dressed in black and a balaclava. She manages to escape but this attack has terrified her. Daniel Beck who works in the same office block as Liz hears her screams and comes running to help and scares off her attacker. Liv thinks this is a one off episode but unfortunately this is just the beginning of her nightmare. She then starts receiving notes, someone seems to know her every move and the notes suggest to Liz that she should be very, very careful. Where are these notes coming from and who keeps delivering them, even inside her own home? Is she just paranoid or is there some one out there who really wishes to do her harm? This is a well thought out book, very suspenseful and moves at a fast pace and once more I enjoyed another book by Jaye Ford.

Now that was an one incredibly nerve jangling read! Grabbed me from page one and sent me hurdlying all the way to the last page! I would have read this cover to cover if I'd not had appointments I couldn't miss! I always get pain in my hands and feet whenever one particular scary event happens (I won't say what) and I still have it even though I finished it well over an hour ago! I had to wait quite a while to acquire it but it was soo worth the wait. This is the second novel I've read, the first being Darkest Place, which was excellent as well. I happily own three more of Jaye Ford's novels, Already Dead, Beyond Fear, and Blood Secret. I hope to be reading them soon.

Wow! What a page turner!
Scared Yet is award winning and best selling Australian author Jaye Ford's second crime novel. I loved her debut novel Beyond Fear, and Scared Yet is just as gripping.
The author writes about ordinary women in extraordinary circumstances and their will to survive.
Livia Prescott fights off a terrifying attack in a deserted parking lot and her bravery is celebrated in the media. As the police begin their investigation threatening notes start arriving and close friends are involved in suspicious accidents. The unknown stalker begins to threaten her loved ones and everyone becomes a suspect.
Scared Yet is a fast-paced thriller, well-written with realistic characters.

Thank you to Jaye Ford for a copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

SCARET YET? Is a psychological thriller/suspense novel by the award winning and bestselling Australian author Jaye Ford. Her first novel, Beyond Fear, was the highest selling debut crime novel in Australia in 2011 and won two Davitt Awards for Best Debut and Readers’ Choice. Below is a list of Jaye Ford’s books in order of when they were originally published:

Beyond Fear (2011)
Scared Yet? (2012)
Blood Secret (2013)
Already Dead (2014)
Darkest Place (2016)

Having loved her debut novel, Beyond Fear, I was anxious to read her second novel. Her novels are set in the Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia, where she lives. This is my review of Scared Yet? The author loves to place ordinary women into extraordinary circumstances and make them dig deep to survive.

When thirty-five- year old Livia (Liv) walked cautiously through the car park after working late at work, she heard something in the shadows. As she reached her vehicle, a hand slammed over her mouth. Police say she hit her attacker with car keys and screamed repeatedly before he ran off. Her assailant was dressed all in black, with black gloves and balaclava. She woke up on the concrete pavement with a work associate, Daniel Beck, leaning over her. Liv suffering a broken hand and severe facial bruising but police say her quick thinking saved her from more serious injuries.

The man who attacked her had waited in the dark then slammed her face into the roof of her car. But being brought up by a father who was a professional boxer, Liv knew how to throw a punch! Her attacker must have facial bruising, after she slammed him in the face, breaking her only hand in doing so.

This attack had been planned…

An anonymous admirer tells her she should be more careful. Her attacker resorts to sending threatening notes to Liv both at home, at work and on her car. Could her ex-husband be involved?

The stalker was watching her…He knew her name and where she lived and worked.

Soon her family is drawn into the stalker's focus - first her dying father, afterwards her young son.

This was an excellent well-written suspenseful thriller, that kept me guessing right to the end. The identity of the stalker was not revealed until right near the end, and one that I did not predict. Highly recommend this novel!

Many thanks to the author for my digital copy.

After a long day at work, Livia Prescott was heading to her car in the deserted undercover carpark, when she was attacked by a dark figure, dressed all in black. Drawing on her past training under her father’s tutorage, she fought back. When Daniel Beck, who worked in an adjacent office, appeared, he scared her attacker off, and called an ambulance for her.

Liv was black and blue, with a broken finger from where she’d jabbed him in the face, but she felt good to have beaten whoever it was. She had been having a difficult year, with her marriage to Thomas breaking up, bitterly, and the custody of her gorgeous eight year old son, Cameron, in jeopardy. Her beloved father was dying of cancer, and things were going wrong with her business...the one she owned with her best friend, Kelly.

When Detective Rachel Quest became involved, Liv thought things were just routine...a one off mugging which would be easily solved. But then the notes began appearing. And these notes weren’t friendly at all! ‘ARE YOU SCARED YET, LIVIA?’ ...she was terrified! They appeared in places only someone who knew Liv could put them...she was being stalked, and the risk to Cameron and her friends immense.

But who could she trust? It seemed that with the widening of the search by the police, the danger escalated, and when her friends began getting brutally hurt, she didn’t know where to turn. The guilt she felt was terrible...she couldn’t face them. So she decided to fight back...enough was enough. Would she be too late? Could she stop someone she loved being killed?

This chilling suspense novel from Jaye Ford is brilliant! I loved Beyond Fear and I would have to say this one was even better. The twists in this tale are terrifying, and the pace breath-taking! Highly recommended!

Now that was an excellent book, full of suspense and the best bit was I had no idea who the stalker actually was until right near the end! With hindsight it became obvious but while the story was being told the author touched on his character frequently enough that we knew who he was but lightly enough that he did not really feature as a suspect. Very nicely written and very enjoyable.

The latest thriller from Aussie-writer Jaye Ford has a strong female protagonist named Livia. One night while walking to her car after work, she is attacked by a man all dressed in black. She is seriously injured but still manages to fight back using the lessons learned from her father, the ex-boxing champ.

Soon after though, she starts getting creepy notes from an apparent stalker, asking if she's scared yet. Worse of all to Livia is the certainty that her friends and family are in danger. How do you fight back against an unknown enemy? And who can she really trust?

Nice pacing to the plot makes for a good page-turner of a thriller. The stalker's identity is a little easy to guess but that doesn't detract from the thrilling conclusion. Movie plot material, for sure!

I received the gift of an arc of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Many thanks, Jaye! I look forward to reading your next book.

Oh my - let me warn you, this one is HARD to put down! It starts with an attack on the main character Livia, by a black clad man in a balaclava. She fights back - and survives. Little does she know that this is just the beginning of terror.

Suspicion shines on nearly everyone you meet along the way. Is it the man who came to her rescue, does he have some sort of hero complex? Is it her angry ex-husband, is this a plot to take her precious son? She spends her days looking for her unknown assailant - who she knows would have a bruise marking his face. After all, she broke her knuckle hitting him there. And then, things get worse. Way worse.

Jaye Ford writes amazing suspense thrillers - she is fast becoming one of my favourite Aussie authors. A fabulous read.

This was an excellent suspenseful thriller, well written with great characters, that kept me guessing right to the end.

Livia Prescott is having a hellish year, recently separated and having to share custody of her son, her father dying in a hospice and her business in trouble. To top it off she undergoes a terrifying assault in a car park from which she barely escapes. However she’s a survivor and determined to get on with her life, but then she starts receiving chilling warnings and it becomes apparent that someone is watching her every move. Definitely scary and enough to make me wary of walking alone in the dark for a while!

This gripping novel opens with an after-hours attack on 35 yo Livia Prescott in the darkened carpark of the Newcastle office complex where she works. A mugger beat her up and left her for dead, until she is found by another tenant of the building, Daniel Beck. He accompanies her to hospital, and comes by to check the security of her home environment. Badly bruised, Liv feels unsafe in her bland, new townhouse, and insists on returning to work as soon as possible, despite her very obvious injuries. She garners public attention when her assault is featured on the TV news, calling for witnesses. In that report, Liv states to camera that she had fought off her assailant and was not scared during the attack.

After the screening of the TV report, Liv gets an anonymous note, the first of many asking if she is scared now. It appears that the mugger, who was not apprehended, was continuing to haunt her with threatening letters. The police officers involved, especially the lead detective Rachel Quest, have a low key attitude. Meantime the tension is building, as Liv realises she is being stalked and tries to deal with the implied threats in the letters.

This is a genuinely tense psychological thriller. I was particularly impressed with the way the author has structured the narrative. The tension develops gradually, as the incidents escalate and intensify. After the initial mugging, Livia is not harmed physically. Rather, she is subjected to a form of mental torture, as the stalker targets her anxieties and vulnerabilities. He also targets her friends and family, which causes her acute distress, embarrassment and worry.

There are some clever ‘red herrings’ and an excellent case of misdirection. There were at least three characters in the story who could have been the baddy. I was sucked into the notion that a particular person was the most likely perpetrator, but just couldn’t marry that with the evidence presented. I was highly amused to learn my hunches were wrong, and I’d been misled by the author. Once the stalker was revealed, the motives and behaviours made perfect sense. And that is one of the virtues of this cleverly constructed story. I was really pleased that the internal logic of the narrative fell neatly into place and there were no loose ends to niggle my brain. This book is an intelligent, insightful piece of writing by Jaye Ford, who has a mastery of the psychological thriller genre.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I am keen to read more.
The story centres on Livia who is newly divorced, with a son and a business that is struggling. When a man attacks her in the car park after work she is shaken to her core. Thankfully a good samaritan intervenes and prevents the attack being too severe, although Livia is left battered and bruised. Daniel, the good samaritan happens to have an office in the same building as Livia's business and assists her with her security concerns. However, not long after this Livia starts receiving threatening notes and it appears she has a stalker who is moving closer and escalating in violence.
This did have its tense moments, but for me it was not chilling and not a thriller, so did not quite meet my expectations.
For me 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

I enjoyed the story and how Jaye Ford amped up the tension in this book. Initially, you’re introduced to characters that you have to take on faith are good. Then cracks appear that have you doubting first this character and then that one. Liv is a wonderful, strong woman put into an extremely difficult situation. I love her relationships with her son and her father, and even her relationship with her ex-husband was realistic.

I would like to thank Jaye Ford for providing a digital copy of this book. I’m looking forward to reading more from her!

This is a thriller, just what is this all about? Livia Prescott starts to question her own sanity. Are these continued events from her past way back when? work difficulties? was there someone who had a real grudge against her? could it be linked to her father and his past or was it something to do with her ex, but why? when he instigated the breakup. All these questions run through Livia's head as well as the Police asking the same questions. After the initial assault at the car park, the threatening notes started to turn up. Someone who knew her every movement, was it Daniel Beck who seemed to appear out of nowhere at any given moment? A man she barely knew before the assault. As much as Livia tries to hold on to her father's ideals and philosophy, it seems that since her marriage breakup she has not managed life well at all, always looking to her closest friends for support, Kelly and Jason. This relationship is starting to fracture with these new events, the business is suffering, Livia is financially secure but not Kelly and Jason. The notes become more and more threatening, just why isn't she scared yet? The perpetrator is one that is so close but because of the oddity of behaviour is unnoticed. Is this what it's all about, to be noticed!

4 stars Thank you to Jaye Ford and Book Funnel for allowing me to read and review her ARC. Published in the US July 20, 2020.

This author has just become one of my very favorite authors. When Ford writes a mystery thriller - it IS a mystery thriller - not one of the blase' semi-mysteries that are written and passed off as a thriller. This is a legitimate thriller that has you on the edge of your seat, working hard to determine who the bad guy is.

Liv Prescott is mugged. Then the mugger becomes a stalker. There are a number of people in her life who are threatened, hurt, and worried about Liv's health as she tries to determine who is stalking her. I was sure I knew who the culprit was - Nope! Ford's story writing leads you on many paths, but only one is right.

This was my second book by Jaye Ford. I enjoyed both. This one will not be my last.

Scared Yet is about how a young woman survived a challenging year and found love again. Livia Prescott was having a challenging year with the end of her marriage, business and her father was dying and hoping nothing else will happen to her. However, this was not the case. One night after work Livia Prescott was walking to her car when she was attacked. Daniel Beck came on the scene soon after the attack started and helped Livia to get medical care. After Livia Prescott recovered from the attack, strange things began to happen to Livia Prescott. The readers of Scared Yet will go on a rollercoaster ride to find out what happens to Livia Prescott. Also, the readers of Scared Yet will start to wonder if Daniel Beck is a friend or an enemy.

I did enjoy reading Scared Yet. I do like Jaye Ford writing style and the way she places her twist and turns that ensure that her readers are hook after the first page. Also, I love the way Jaye Ford portrays her characters especially Daniel Beck.

The readers of Scared Yet will learn about mental illness and how it can affect the suffer and people around them. Also, Scared Yet will highlight the readers that you should not take things at face value. The readers of Scared Yet will learn how to run a small business and some of the problems that are involved in running a small business.

I recommend this book.

Spannend boek.

Wow, this book really packs a punch! It kept me engrossed from start to finish (and like a couple of the other reviewers I was up until the early hours because I just couldn't put it down).

Livia Prescott is an average single mother living and working in suburban Newscastle, when one night she is attacked while walking to her car in a dark, multi-storey carpark. Fortunately she has the strength and courage to fight back, and while shaken, she walks away relatively unscathed. Her friends and workmates praise her quick thinking and she vows to get on with her life.

Then the notes start arriving. Short and jarring they taunt her, asking if she is "scared yet?" Now Livia realises that far from being a random, opportunistic attack, she was actually specifically targeted and is now being stalked.

The suspense in this book is amazing, as each chapter builds it further, adding a new dynamic to the web of possibilities. You can literally feel each rattle of the door and jump at each passing shadow, as Livia does her best to keep herself safe as well as her precious son.

Added to these elements, Livia has the added stress of a nasty divorce, a business on the brink of going under and her father is terminally ill in a hospice. She is literally at breaking point and you know that any little thing could tip her over the edge.

I really enjoyed the setting (good to see a book set outside the major cities) and thought that it captured all the Australian elements (dialogue, brands, lifestyle etc) really well. The characters are also really well drawn and you get just enough insight into each one to wonder if they may be capable of the crime.

It definitely kept me guessing right until the end - and had me checking my doors and windows before going to sleep! An amazing book.

A gripping read, beware the car park at night!

Liv Prescott fights off an attacker in a car park one night and is hailed as very brave. But not everyone agrees. She starts to get anonymous notes asking if she is scared yet. Liv reports it to the police but the notes keep coming.

Finally the police arrest the man who attacked her. He is sporting a black eye and an injured leg, just as Liv said he would be. Phew, Liv is so relieved. But the notes keep coming. They get more threatening and promise a demonstration. Soon a friend of hers has a terrible car accident and evidence shows the vehicle has been tampered with. Now Liv is not just scared - she is terrified. If its not her attacker writing these notes, who the hell is it?

There are a few suspects to consider, even some that are close to her and appear to be on her side. Tension mounts as Liv doesn't know who to trust. And. The. Notes. Keep. Coming. Someone else close to Liv is attacked and eventually, you guessed it, there is a showdown as the stalker gets his hands on Liv for a practical demonstration of why she should be scared of him.

This was very gripping and I really liked that Liv was no walkover. She had some guts and fought back (I really don't like snivelling women).

Jaye Ford's newest release Scared Yet? came highly recommended on the heels of her successful debut, Beyond Fear. In this psychological thriller, Ford introduces her protagonist Livia Prescott, who is the victim of a terrifying assault. Though she is able to successfully thwart her attacker, who disappears in to the night, shortly afterward she becomes the focus of a disturbing and sustained campaign of harassment. When the man who assaulted her is captured, Liv is stunned that the harassment doesn't stop, in fact, the anonymous threats escalate and the unknown stalker begins to target her friends and loved ones. Liv is scared but with everyone she knows a suspect, who can she trust and what will happen when she trusts the wrong person?

Ford has created an admirable character in Liv who readers are immediately able to relate to. It has not been a good year for Liv, her once strong and stalwart father is dying, she is embroiled in a bitter relationship with her ex-husband and the business she owns with best friend Kelly, is teetering on the brink of collapse. Yet Liv doesn't give in when she is attacked in the carpark after a long day at work, she fights back, making use of her pent up anger and frustration, and the boxing skills learnt from her father. The description of the attack is harrowing, for most women the possibility of an attack lurks in the back of your mind when you cross a deserted car park and it is all too easy to imagine yourself in a similar situation. You can't help but cheer Liv on as she blackens the attackers eye and then draw in a pained breath as he slams her head into the car boot. In the aftermath of the assault, Liv relies on her anger to hold the fear at bay, declaring she wasn't scared in a media interview, until the notes begin arriving, delivered to her work, placed under the windshield of her car and even hand delivered to her son. Liv responds practically to the implied threat, informing the police and making her home more secure which is a relief, since all too often authors rely on their protagonists making inane choices to put them in even more danger. Despite Liv's precautions her stalker is determined to breach her defenses by targeting her friends, continually taunting her with notes asking "Are you scared yet, Liv?"
Of the secondary characters, I am wary of saying anything much for fear of accidentally revealing who is, and who isn't, a viable suspect. I did feel that Ford did a credible job in fleshing out the supporting cast, while ensuring they retained the necessary ambiguity. The only real flaw for me in the story was the behaviour of Jason, I just didn't think his behaviour fit with what we are told about him and his history with Liv. It's a difficult point to articulate without a a spoiler but had there been some sort of past related incident, his actions would have made more sense to me.

The careful plotting ensured I was kept guessing, though when the identity of the stalker was revealed I wondered why I hadn't seen it. It's to the author's credit that I was suspicious of almost everyone at one point or another.
Ford builds the tension masterfully as the situation escalates and the pool of suspects widens. The final confrontation between Liv and her stalker is explosive and the conclusion is satisfying.

Scared Yet? is a taut thriller that places an ordinary woman in extraordinary circumstances. I turned the pages compulsively and read the entire book in a little more than three hours (despite it being 454 pages long and 2am when I finished). My copy of the book is adorned with a money-back guarantee sticker from the publisher but I would be shocked if anyone made use of it. Scared Yet? is just what it promises, a stellar read - a fast-paced, entertaining and engrossing novel of suspense.

Livia has so much going wrong in her life that would shatter most people. A dying father, a failed marriage, an exploitive ex-husband, her small business struggling, her best friend's and business partner is hiding secrets, and then she is mugged as she leaves work. This unleashes a series of threatening letters and suspicious accidents involving close friends. Who to trust? What do the police know? Is this personal or business related? How is really a friend?
This is a page-turner. Cleverly constructed with a good surprise ending.

A straightforward crime novel. It was good enough that I didn’t guess the perpetrator. Easy to read. Liked the fact that the main protagonist was a strong female. Some good suspense. A good, enjoyable holiday read that is light and undemanding. ***1/2

Really enjoyed this, was great to pick up the pace with this novel and get stuck into a good suspense. Similar style to my overseas favourites Sandra Brown and Joy Fielding. Quite a page turner, a little bit predictable but nicely rounded off in the end. Would recommend this one and am keen to read Ford's other novels.

Scared yet?
No, I'm afraid not.

The book has an intriguing synopsis that seems set to evolve into a dark and realistic narrative. But as the story evolves, the actions by the antagonist are simply to repetitive to stay engaging. For me it even got to the point where it simply got annoying.

After multiple notes simply repeating the title, the story could really use a next level step. Unfortunately that step never occured. The only time a note actually became threatening, was when one was given to our protagonist's son. But overall the entire narrative is simply to bland and boring to become really suspenseful. Dark as it may sound: throwing a stone onto a moving car and throwing a young lady onto a car from few floors high, simply doesn't cut it. Level up! Things that could have made a shocking event? The antagonist killing Liv's sick father on his deathbed, her son Cameron being kidnapped, Daniel or Kelly being killed, Liv becoming a suspect herself, getting arrested being unable to protect Cameron etc. Merely examples of how this story could have been a truly terrifying and dark thriller.

Another problem I had was the way a few male characters were written. Especially Daniel is quite a cliché male character. Handsome, muscular, seemingly nice but with a temper and an underlying darkness/trauma. Even though Ray came as a bit of a surprise, he definitely was on my suspect list. The final confrontation was a little to long winded and slow paced for my liking. Also his motive and back story are a little too far fetched for me to be believable.

That all being said, style-wise it is definitely an overall well written novel. The female characters are very well written and the back story of Liv and other characters is relatable and understandable. You really feel for Liv and understand her anger and sorrow. That is good writing!

I also liked how Liv and Ray are really eachother's opposites. Liv was taught to take care of herself, Ray was taught people, especially women, can't take care of themselves and that he has to do it for them. Obviously he is mistaken, a fact he can't accept. As where Liv accepts her mistakes so vividly that she actually hurts herself by doing so. Their worlds simply cannot co-exist, and that always makes for a compelling conflict! Very well done. I think that is what made me Finnish this novel.

The lack of suspense, the clichéd male characters, the narrative being bland, long winded and simply to uneventful prevents me from giving three stars. The two stars I give are for Jaye Fords stylish writing style, the relatable backstory of most characters and the well written female characters. Because of that last bit I think I will give another novel by Jaye Ford a try.

Liv is having a horror year. Her husband left her for a younger woman and they have taken half custody of her son; her father, ex-boxing champion and life-long mentor, is dying; and her dream business, in which she is a partner, has financial problems. To top it off, one night she leaves work in the dark and is attacked by a masked man all in black. She fights back and screams and is rescued.

She is pleased that she got one good punch in and he is hurt too. She becomes something of a celebrity. But then the stalking, threats and escalating violence begin ...

This is a well written, suspenseful and altogether excellent thriller. Both characters and plot are well developed and this kept me up into the small hours of the morning. Interestingly, it is full of strong female characters without ever falling into the chick lit genre. I'll definitely be looking for more by this author.

Definitely recommended.

Another awesome Jaye Ford story!!!

Meet Livia, recently divorced, co-partner in a temp agency, and mother. She’s leaving work late, when all of our worst nightmares come true. She’s attacked in the parking garage. Due to being the daughter of a champion boxer, her quick thinking and reflexes save her life. The following day anonymous letters start arriving asking if she’s scared yet. Accidents begin happening all around her and the notes keep piling up.

This story kept me on the edge of my seat, the only thing was that there were a few parts that were a bit slow, but overall it was a thrilling read!

Can’t wait to read Blood Secret!

Thank you to Jaye Ford for providing me with an advanced reader copy!!
