I read this book to fulfil a Book Challenge - A book that you can read in a day- and this only took a few hours to read. Tick. But that's about it. There's nothing to rave about. I read this as a teenager (I'm currently rereading these in between other books to relive my youth!) but this is not one of my favourites. I guess if you are in to horses it would be more relevant but even the love story was a bit blah. An interesting side note to the usual sugar sweet romance was that in one scene, the main male love interest touched her breast and pushed things a bit too far and she had to yell at him to stop and push him away. I don't remember any of the books going any further than a passionate kiss so that was intriguing. Still very vanilla compared to how YA are written now.

Synopsis (taken from http://sweetdreamsseries.com):
Things have always come easy for Maura - good looks, good grades and a real talent for horseback riding. So when she and her friend Jill start their summer at a horse farm, Maura decides she's going to win first prize in the annual horse show. Then Maura meets Kevin, a dark, handsome boy who rides as if he was born on a horse. Riding with Kevin is like dancing with a wonderfully graceful partner, and for the first time Maura falls in love. But Kevin wants too much from her too soon and she's scared. She needs a little breathing space. Feeling rejected, Kevin decides to show Maura up by winning the prize that she has been working towards all summer. But Maura is determined to win, even if it means losing the first boy she's ever really loved.

All I remember about this book is that I was reading it the day we had our class spelling bee in 6th grade, and guess what the winning word was? I went on to win the school bee and got to compete in the citywide bee. Ah, memories!

This was a pretty good book. Not exceptionally amazing, but a pretty good, fast read.

I picked it as something to read on public transport, which it worked well for as it's not a very big book.

I enjoyed it. However, felt a bit old-fashioned with some of the grammar used (which is understandable as it was published in 1981) and the story felt a little hard to follow e.g How old is Kevin? Was it not frowned upon for a man to try and pursue a 16-year-old girl?

Spent a day helping my parents clean out their attic and found my copy of this book from 1982. And I was as much of a book nerd then as I am today! Written on the inside, "Love horses, love this book." Of course that's my much younger impression and probably would find the book silly today. Not sure if I'll reread for fun or just let my memory love it.

Decent. Cute read for someone who never got into horses as a kid. I was surprised that I found myself interested in the horse show climate and training aspects. That was neat to read about. I did not connect with the rich pampered love interest. I also found the portrayal of the main character to be honest, yet, annoying at the same time.

Teen girl. Handsome boy. Horse riding. Need I say more. Oh summer spent with visits swimming at country club.

I tore through the Sweet Dreams books when I was about thirteen. I don't remember most of them, but as a horse-crazy kid, this one definitely stuck with me longer.
