The stars I begrudgingly give this book is for the ending, which managed to surprise me and made me a bit milder towards the rest of the book. Because there weren’t many other redeeming qualities in it. The main character was very naive and I didn’t like her at all, and before the ending it was all too predictable. There were also a lot of eye-rolling moments, and I had a hard time believing no one saw what happened at the pub and felt that the investigation was swept under the rug, probably because in normal life the outcome would have been different. But again, the ending was pretty good, so I don’t regret reading it.

EXCERPT: A bride is not supposed to get arrested on her wedding day.
The fact that such a shocking and strange thing was happening was the reason that dozens of guests were standing around outside the exclusive country manor on this sprawling estate gawking and gossiping as they watched the unusual scene unfold.
The dazzling white of the woman's wedding dress was in stark contrast to the dark uniforms of the police officers who were leading the bride to one of the vehicles, their flashing blue lights reflecting off the windows of the impressive building behind them.

ABOUT 'THE BRIDE TO BE': Kate is getting married. It’s an exciting time, but she has some doubts - her partner Mark sometimes mistreats her, and she is beginning to wonder if he is really “the one”.

Her concerns only grow when she spots a ridiculously happy couple during a wedding dress fitting. Realising that they have everything she wants, she becomes obsessed with the pair.

She decides that the groom, Tristan, is her ideal man and becomes fixated on getting closer to him. As she does, she discovers more and more about him and his seemingly perfect life with his bride-to-be, Tess.

As the wedding draws nearer, Kate has some big decisions to make. Should she leave Mark? Is Tristan the one she should really be with? And what will happen when the dark secrets that both couples are hiding come out into the open?

MY THOUGHTS: The Bride to Be was so very nearly a five star read. It certainly felt like it in the first 50% which I devoured avidly.

Full of the possibility of betrayal, suspense, psychological abuse, and stalking, Daniel had me, as he so often does, on the edge of my seat and eagerly flipping pages.

The second half didn't have quite the same impetus for me as the first half had, though quite why I couldn't put my finger on.

I admit to becoming just a little frustrated with Kate, her obsession with Tristan and her indecision over her relationship with Mark, although I could understand her fear of him. I also became a little frustrated with Tristan although again I have known men in his position and realise that their embarrassment at the reality of the situation is very real.

There some really great twists in The Bride to Be, but the epilogue wasn't entirely unexpected.

⭐⭐⭐⭐.2

Goin’ to the chapel of love" -Going to the Chapel, The Dixie Cups

Kate is getting married, but she has doubts. Her fiancé, Mark, is controlling and she wonders if he really is the one, she wants to spend her life with. When trying to choose a wedding dress, she observes a happy couple and becomes obsessed with the groom, Tristan. She comes up with a way to get closer to him and realizes that he has his own relationship issues.

As the wedding bells are about to chime, Kate must decide if she wants to marry Mark or leave him. Could Tristan be the one for her?

I have read several books by Daniel Hurst, and they have all been 4 and 5 star reads. This one was enjoyable and had a fair share of twists, but this book did not wow me as his other books have. This book has a good premise and Hurst pulls it off very well. This was just lacking that little bit of something that would have elevated this book for me. There is a reveal at the end of the epilogue that I could have done without. I thought Hurst should have stopped while he was ahead. Many may enjoy the last few pages; I didn't feel it was necessary. But that's my opinion, others may like that part.

This book does evoke emotions which for me ranged from disbelief, shock, frustration, and had me smiling like the cat who ate the canary.

Enjoyable, fast paced, and shocking.

“You’ll see it’s a good thing to be a wife. Look at the wives of my friends. They are all happy. They know how to behave. My friends have no problems with them, and soon, we’ll be the same.’
It is that Kate, Mark and the other characters in this book are constantly using their mobile phone, not for calling people but for posting pictures and checking other peoples’ pictures, or otherwise you would have thought this story is set in the fifties or sixties of the last century.
How on earth is it possible that a woman of 38, apparently with a full time job, is spending her free time doing just one thing: to try and find a husband. Not even a rich one or a handsome one, no, just any man would do provided they are not too poor or ugly or have a criminal background. Well, Kate is mistaken here. Her fiancé Mark could well have a criminal background, but he’s been very clever in hiding his more unsavoury character traits. And Kate chooses to ignore them – just like that. After all, she is desperate because she’s nearing 40.
Anyway, Mark is trouble, Kate is not really happy with him, and when she thinks she sees a chance for real happiness, she goes for it full force. It’s only a pity the subject of her adoration thinks otherwise, so Kate sets to work to try and convince him he’s experiencing the same problems as she has, and they would be much better suited for each other. The only thing they have to do is walk away from their current relationship.
But that’s not easy, and when things threaten to go terribly wrong, everything changes.
I was in the mood for a light mystery, and with Daniel Hurst, you know what you get. I must admit his books are a bit addictive. Except for The Accident, they are in the three- or four star category, and The Bride to Be is no exception. This one was a nice read with a little surprising ending.

“Less than forty-eight hours ago, I was just a woman on her way to find a wedding dress in a shop. But today, I am a woman on her way to find the man she saw in that wedding dress shop.”

Kate Allen is keeping a secret. Actually, she’s keeping LOTS of secrets. What she doesn’t know is that she isn’t the only one.

I love Daniel Hurst books! They are always fast-paced, high-interest and full of twists.

Are you looking for a quick read? One that will make you gasp as well as cackle wickedly? Like to be surprised? You must read this book.

Hurst explores the stress brought on by planning a wedding and finding the perfect dress, as well as the burden of self-doubt surrounding making such an important life decision. You’ll not want to miss this one!

The Bride to Be by Daniel Hurst is a twisty tale of love gone wrong!

Kate is engaged to be married and isn't in the happiest of relationships. Her fiance, Mark, is verbally and emotionally abusive. When she's wedding dress shopping and sees the attentive Tristan with his fiancee, she can only imagine he would be a much better groom for her! And so begins an adventure of stalking, manipulation, revenge, and murder!

The prologue starts us off with a bang and then the suspense continues to build right up until the epilogue. I loved the short chapters and the characters were all well-formed and the plot was juicy and surprising.

I was on the edge of my seat for this one and couldn't flip the pages on my kindle fast enough. This was the kind of excellent psychological thriller that I devoured in well under 24 hours! And has me looking at more Daniel Hurst backlist titles to add to my TBR!!

Big fan of this author as you know and the books just keep coming
This story is about a bride,Kate, who is soon to be married to Mark,Mark though is far from all he seems and one day at a Bridal Shop she is fixated by another couple also there looking for a wedding dress, she becomes obsessed with Tristan and as it turns out all it not as it seems there either,in fact nothing is at it seems with any of them andas decisions are made the weddings are not going to go as planned
A dynamic snappy attention pulling read as always from this author with an unusual conclusion
Yet another good read from this most prolific of writers

I am a huge Daniel Hurst fan. I know you know this already. His books are addictive, fast and twisty.
This book delivered brilliantly on the first 2 points- in spades- I couldn't stop reading!
I found the main character intriguing but seriously unhinged! I found it hard to root for her as she became rather obsessed. Still made for obsessive reading though.
Whilst the epilogue was surprising, I wasn't sure it needed to be included, or perhaps it could have been incorporated into the main book.

The king of domestic suspense returns following Her Last Hour with his latest highly entertaining game of cat-and-mouse psychological thriller, THE BRIDE TO BE —an inside look at what goes on behind closed doors of two couples headed for the altar.

Set in London: Prologue—a clever, wicked twist of misdirection for readers—A wedding. Not sure whose marriage at this point, but a bride is being arrested during the ceremony. Another woman is onlooking as the bride is being hauled off in a police car. Someone had not heeded the warning.

Hurst knows how to grab your attention from the get-go and holds you captive until the satisfying conclusion. From here, we go to Before the Wedding.

An anxious bride is looking for the dream wedding dress at a bridal shop. However, it would be the day she saw something else she wanted.

Something forbidden.
Someone else's groom.

Chrissy is the clerk, with champagne in hand, ready to assist. Her job is to help brides choose the perfect wedding dress.

Kate is engaged to Mark. She is desperate to get married in her late thirties, but Mark is verbally abusive and controlling. How will she get out of this wedding?

At the bridal shop, she spots another couple. The woman and the man are stunning. The man seems so lovable and attentive. This couple would be Tess and Tristan.

Kate becomes OBSESSED with Tristan. Kate wants Tristan. She is delusional. She stalks his social media, follows him, and returns to the dress shop to gather more intel for her devious plan.

She tells Chrissy she wants to order a dress like the woman in the store the day she was in. The clerk looks it up, and the dress costs $6K! She excuses herself, and Kate quickly looks at the book to find their names and addresses.

From here starts the wicked game of cat a mouse. Let the stalking BEGIN.

From texting, lies, betrayal, and anything to get closer to this guy. However, Kate does not realize she has met her match. Tess is as controlling as Mark.

Kate is unaware of this and sets up a meeting. However, Tess shows up instead of Tristan. She had his phone and the one bantering with her. She warns her to stay away.

This warning does not deter Kate. She reverts to looking in the windows and witnesses the abuse from Tess firsthand. She must help Tristan. She and Tristan must find a way to leave their abusive partners. They cannot get married.

When Kate confides in her BFF, they develop a plan for her to tell Mark she is leaving and cannot marry him. However, her BFF Molly winds up DEAD!

Now, Kate knows Mark is dangerous. She also knows Tess is dangerous. Mark tracks Kate's every move with software and hacks into her emails. Tess is also controlling Tristan's every move.

They think they have a PLAN; however, the partners know more than you think.

Someone winds up dead.
Someone is getting married.
Someone will stop the wedding with a video.

Who knows what happened outside the pub that night?

Mr. Hurst knows how to write twisty, addictive, witty, and binge-worthy thrillers! This was a quick read in one sitting, a fun popcorn thriller. The twist at the end leaves something for the characters and readers to consider. SOMEONE always knows the truth.

A terrifying tale of duplicity that will have you side-eyeing your spouse. Wildly entertaining—and FUN!

TW: Cheating. If you're not a big fan of anything remotely resembling cheating (in this case, more of an emotional one) I don't think this will be a book for you (same as Verity wasn't the book for me. but that was way worse coz of the actual physical cheating that happened while Verity was in the other room. Ugh)

I can't get behind the reasoning of the protagonist's actions in this book. I think she's a crazy stalker, insecure, and a relationship wrecker. Although it did turn out ok towards the end. But still, the means didn't justify the end.

There are also some things here that I just didn't buy.

UGH.

4. The epilogue was a poor attempt at a "twist" in the end.

“The Bride to be” by Daniel Hurst
Publisher: Inkubator Books
Publication: May 7th 2023

Arc provided by NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Yea! Another book by Daniel Hurst! After not being the biggest fan of the last one, I hoped this would be better. It was not just better, it was great! I really enjoyed this one. Partly because I could relate in some ways! Ok, that sounds worse than it is, but I really connected to the characters.

Synopsis:
Kate, 38, is finally tying the knot, or so she thinks. Whilst she realised she is in a psychological abusive relationship (duh!!!, she can’t bring herself to leave and cancel the wedding. Until by chance she sees the perfect couple in a bridal shop. That’s when the insta crush turns insta stalking.

My opinion:
I liked this from the start. I had a hard time deciding if Kate was a reliable or unreliable narrator. It kept me guessing and doubting all of the time. While I liked her character, she was definitely a bit weird and obsessive. Halfway through the book changed directions, or so I thought at least. I was feeling as let doubt by the reveal as Kate did. So I think that was really well done. I enjoyed this novel a lot.

The epilogue was expected but not entirely.

I was slightly confused by the logistics. I for some reason thought Kate lived close to Manchester and Tristan and Teas in London. So the commuting confused me and I couldn’t make up my mind where this takes place now?! But that might only be me…

I like to read Hurst’s books to escape from the heavy reads of other novels. While still in the thriller category, his books are so easy to casually while away a lazy afternoon. At such with many of his books, I finished it in one sitting. There was no real mystery or thrill to this one. It was just a fun read that I thoroughly enjoyed. A bride-to-be is torn between whether to go through with the wedding or end this abusive relationship. She finds a similar fate in a man she sees in a wedding dress shop. They both fear their relationships, but are hesitant to do anything about them. A couple of tragedies do occur in this book, but it’s all in good fun. While I do get irritated at these authors who throw in that last unnecessary twist (that usually ruins the book), I decided to overlook this one. It was harmless and a bit amusing.

My Review:
Loved!!!!! I don’t know what it is about this author and his books but I enjoy them so much. When I see a new one come out I just have to read it. It all started with his book The Accident. I’ve loved this author ever since then and try to read as many of his books as I can. He puts out books constantly so it’s definitely hard to catch up but I really am trying. I want to say first and foremost that all his books are so much fun to read and always have a great twist at the end you don’t see coming. They are also shorter books and you can get through them in just a couple days or less if you have the time. Sometimes shorter is better as you get to the point faster. So let’s talk about this book specifically. The characters were the best, the plot kept me very entertained and ending rocked. This whole book left me shocked and speechless. It was very well written and moved at a fast pace. I turned the pages so quickly my fingers got tired from swiping. I just had to find out what happened next. This author is one of my favorites and I will definitely be reading more of his books.

In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

You know, there's not a single Daniel Hurst book I haven't rated 5 stars so far. And this one is no exception.
I love this author's writing style. He's realistic. He just snaps his fingers and suddenly there you are, inside the character's minds, caring and relating to them from the very first chapter. It's impressive how he does it really.

Immediately hooked, a fast read, a unique plot, this is a page turner. I loved it!
This particular plot kept me very entertained. I loved the bridal/wedding theme -- so well written! The psychological and physical abuse parts were thougher to read but again they were realistic and the villains were great (I hated Mark!). The ending was simple yet it rocked. I know it may be perceived flat by some, but there are people like her, you know?

There wasn’t a single thing I enjoyed about this storyline. The story was silly and not believable and not engaging. And there is no plot twist that makes reading it worth it. It took me 3 weeks to finish because I was dreading picking up my kindle every time.

Don’t recommend this one.

Surprise, surprise. I kind of enjoyed this writing style. I would definitely give this author another try.

The plot overall sounds intriguing, however, I found the climax and the resolution very mild and not that interesting compared to the building up. There is a very unnecessary twist at the end of the book that does absolutely NOTHING to the story - why authors have to do this? Adding a very nonsene out of nowhere twist that completely either ruins the already-perfect story or doesn't change anything crucial about the story. Please, stop doing that! I think there's one good reason this twist is added in the epilogue, because of the absence of twists in the storyline and lack of suspense.

Well, there is in fact a very surprisingly good twist at about the middle of the book, when the identity of a certain person in contact with the main character, Kate, is revealed. It's really dropping my jawls. But that's just it. From then, the story is meandering, like the author doesn't which direction to go with this story. Also, the next progression of the story continues when there is this conflict resolving itself. But the way it is handled doesn't coincide with the personality of a certain character, which really annoys me and I felt very unconvinced about the whole situation (why this person did that, it's not like his personality at all, and then that person dies so blandly...). Another point is the ending - the final resolution happens like a nice gift with a bow on the top. It's too low-staked and I don't feel any kind of exhilaration or satisfaction when reading that resolution.

Spoiler:

Kate stalked Tristan online and added friend with him. When they met, Kate found out that it was Tess all along that messaged her through Instagram. Tess was abusive towards her fiance Tristan and she was controlling of Tristan's behavior. She said that Tristan had been unfaithful before (it turned out Tess was an evil bitch and Tristan was a victim).

Kate and Tristan met to be more decisive about leaving their partner. Kate asked her best friend for emotional support when she told her fiance that she left him. But Molly never showed up. It turned out Molly fell to her death, an accident.

Then Mark showed his true nature. He knew all along Kate's plan to leave him and he insinuated that he killed Molly - but then it wasn't clear if he really did that. This is an open question that is never answered in the book.

Kate and Tristan met again, this time Mark followed Kate and confronted Kate and Tristan. Mark pretended to be kind of Kate but when Kate wasn't fooled, he brought out a knife and attacked Kate (why did he do that? It's not like his personality!!!). Tristan tried to protected Kate and successfully killed Mark. They fled the scene, Kate held Tristan's phone which was dropped at the scene.

Kate wanted to crash Tristan's wedding. On Tristan's phone, there was a video that Tristan himself recorded Tess abusing him physically. Kate hacked Tristan's phone, sent the video to multiple people at the wedding. Then Tess was arrested for assautl. Tristan was freed.

Finally, Kate and Tristan got together happily every after.

The epilogue revealed that the saleswoman, Chrissy, at the wedding dress shop knew about Kate's intention when stalking Tristan. Chrissy confonted Kate and demanded to know the reason why Kate did that. Kate told everything. Chrissy seemed satisfied and left. So pointless with this stupid twist.

Not only is Kate’s wedding right around the corner, she hasn’t chosen her dress yet. She’s about to attend a hen party with her friends but there’s a much bigger problem than the fact that she hasn’t found the dress of her dreams. What is going on? Kate is in an abusive relationship with her partner, Mark. The emotional damage Kate experiences with Mark grows exponentially.

While shopping for her wedding dress one day Kate spots what she feels is the perfect couple. A beautiful bride to be and a dropdead gorgeous groom to be. To say that Kate becomes obsessed would be an understatement. She is quite crafty and discovers the names of the couple, with the man being named Tristan. Kate will go to any lengths possible to get close to Tristan, and that is where the story really takes off.

Kate is not happy in her relationship, and if things go the way that she wants, just maybe things might not be so happy for that perfect couple she ran into at the bridal shop. Kate is now on a mission, and this means that she just might upset any future plans.

Every now and again, you read books that have characters that you love to hate, and that’s how things are with Kate. Yes, she was a victim of domestic abuse with her partner, but she was also sneaky, conniving and dishonest. The question is, what about those two impending marriages? Would either of them take place? For an unputdownable domestic thriller, don’t miss this latest book by Daniel Hurst.

A 5-star review wasn’t “to be”…(sorry not sorry for the bad pun).

Many thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions here are my own.

Bride to be, Kate, spots another engaged couple whilst wedding dress shopping. Feeling trapped in her current relationship, she idolises the couple she has observed, and develops a bit of an obsession with the bride’s fiancé… Over time, she soon realises that things aren’t as sweet as they seem behind closed doors.

The book is fast paced and very easy to read, and I found that the prologue was strong and had me wanting to read on. The rest of the book is in the first person narrative of the protagonist (Kate) so it’s generally quite conversational. However, I felt that this narrative led to overexplaining the entire book. Literally every action and thought Kate has is spelled out and it gave me no opportunity to read between the lines. Truthfully, I think another round of editing to cut a lot of this out would probably make the book itself more palatable.

Overall, I feel like the general plot was carried far too easily considering the consequences that could have arose, and I kept chasing for a thrill that I couldn’t find. I appreciate that Hurst tried not to leave loose ends but I felt it was noticeable when something happened in the book for the sake of tying these up. To its credit though, the book’s theme involving domestic abuse was handled quite sensitively in my opinion.

I know that many others have rated this book higher, so I’m sure there is an audience that would enjoy this for a quick read, however I definitely think there’s room for improvement in its plot and delivery.

I have read about six books so far by Daniel Hurst, and "The Bride to Be" is definitely one of my favorites! It is a super fast read--I finished it in a few hours yesterday afternoon, and it helped stave off the "Sunday Scaries"!

Kate is growing increasingly hesitant about her impending wedding day due to the emotional manipulation she experiences from her partner Mark. When she sees a seemingly perfect couple in the bridal gown shop, she almost instantly decides she wants their life. She becomes obsessed with the man, Tristan, and will stop at seemingly nothing to get closer to him. Of course, things do not proceed as Kate plans, and soon everything starts to spiral out of her control.

I really enjoyed this! It kept me engaged the whole time, with a lot of little twists I didn't expect. Definitely 5/5 for plot! The characters weren't very likable, but I always expect that from thrillers. Some of the writing was a bit awkward and repetitive, but I honestly found it better than some of Hurst's other books.

I would definitely recommend "The Bride to Be" if you have read and enjoyed Hurst's other works! 4.5 stars rounded up.

Thanks to NetGalley, Inkubator Books, and Daniel Hurst for this eARC!

‘We’re so close to getting married to bad people and for what? To keep up appearances? To fit in more in our social circle? It’s ludicrous. Your real friends won’t care if you’re single or not. They just want you to be happy.’

As i always mentioned in my reviews, i love a fast paced story like this. However I find this not thrilling enough to give higher than my review. I always love an unpredictable twist/ending, but this one doesn’t deliver (if you’ve read this, you know what I’m referring to, and if you count that one as a twist). I had to read this part twice to understand what was happening.

Thank you NetGalley for approving me an ARC of this.

gripping!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great Read

Plot-:
Kate is due to marry her love of her life Mark, whilst wedding dress shopping she spots a very handsome man, Tristan, dress shopping with his soon to be wife Tess.
Kate began to become a little obsessed with Tristan even though she was to marry Mark, but something draws her attention towards Tristan.
Over the course of the few weeks counting up to there wedding, Kate begins to find out dark secrets about Tess and Tristan’s relationship and realise Tristan and Herself have a lot in common.

I really enjoyed the story line, I did feel it took a wee bit longer to get into than normal D.Hurst books.

Overall, I thought it was a great read, gripping with a few twist throughout.

Just up my alley, another great book by this author. We find ourselves following Kate who is about to get married. But its not that simple, or at least Daniel Hurst doesnt make it so. I love how Kate gets mixed up in the life of another couple who are also getting married. But as usual nothing is as it seems. So while you are wondering all about Kate, you also need to wonder about the other couple she is obsessed with. This is definitely a page turner as with all of Daniel Hurst's books.

Planning your wedding with your fiancé should be the happiest day of a girls life, right?

Whilst everything seems wonderful to the rest of the world, behind closed doors Kate is becoming tired of the abuse she receives at the hands of Mark, the man who loves her.

Tristan who's soon to be marrying Tess is in the same situation, only this time she's the abuser and he's the victim.

What a story, definitely my favourite of Hurst's I've read so far, there have been a few.

I read the book over several hours when I couldn't sleep, once I started I couldn't stop. I needed to know whether Katie's plans would come to fruition, whether she'd be marrying Mark, or Tristan.

The Bride to Be is a fast paced cat and mouse style thriller. Although the plot lacks an explosive ending, it held my attention from beginning to end.

A twisty journey of obsessive love gone wrong.

Many thanks to Zooloo's Book Tours for my tour spot.

What a thrill ride. Thank you so much to net gallery and the publisher for my arc.
Kate ìs getting married just like all her happy married pals. To the outside world it will be the best day of their lives but the world only sees what you want it to. As Kate searchs for the perfect dress she sees a happily engaged couple and starts to question everything as the truth about her relationship is brought home to her loud and clearly. Saying yes was the worst thing ahe ever did.
A real page turner. Good character developmentand a well past story. I liked the way the character were true to life and so relatable The plot was very believable . The last few pages of the book I did find myself screaming what's rhe point in that as I was then waiting for a final twist that never csme. This did not take away from the novel. It was a joy to read. So look forward to the next one.

Is every “perfect” marriage as it seems? This book is a fast paced psychological thriller about two couples who seem perfect on the outside, but behind closed doors, nothing is as it seems. This book for me wasn’t the best just because any twist in the book I called before it happened, which annoyed me honestly. I hate when I can guess or know what’s going to happen. Overall I’d give this book a 3/5 it was a fun read I just wish I didn’t see everything coming.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Inkubator Books, and Daniel Hurst for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review! All opinions are my own!
This title releases on 5.7.23!

Oh I was waiting for something to happen in this story. Some big plot twist and good ending. Sadly it didn't happen and I was left feeling deflated and disappointed.
