A rural lakeside community is terrorized by a demonic black boat prowling its waters, killing locals and turning the waters blood red. A fallen Priest and a no-nonsense Harbor Patrol Captain have to fight a decades long evil, resurrected by a death cult, the Brotherhood of Darkness, led by the unstoppable Messiah Ward. It’s faith vs hate in this battle for one town’s soul.
Brian G Berry is new to the world of writing. He writes everything from 1980s inspired horror, SCIFI/Action-horror, to the strange. His biggest influences are the writers of the weird including Lovecraft, Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, to the pulp horror authors of the golden age 70s/80s- and a splattering of others. Author of The Pail, A Bloody Christmas, Splatter Fiend Series, Slasherback Series, Campfire Tales Beneath a Pallid Moon, Accursed Ground, Blood Lanes, The Night Mutilator, Thanksgiving Day Massacre, and his newest: SNOW SHARK.
Oh those friggin’ death cults. Always bringing the ruckus. So this is sort of an odd review, as the author just novelized a film, adding in some tidbits to fine tune it a bit. I’m not familiar with this particular movie, but it definitely sounds SyFy channel-rific. If you want some deep, meaningful characters and a well thought out plot with some powerful takeaways, I’m afraid you won’t find it here. What you will find is a bunch of nonsensical chaos with phantoms in motorboats killing a bunch of people. Lots of fun on a very superficial level, and a very quick read. Brian Berry continues to entertain me and I always look forward to his new releases. And the cover made me laugh for a solid ten minutes, too. Bravo!
Brian G Berry is the master of campy horror novels. I have loved the Polonia Brothers movies ever since I saw Feeders back in the day and when I heard Brian was writing a novelization of one of their movies I was beyond excited.
It's set in a small rural town surrounded by a lake which sees tourists and locals flock to the water for fishing, swimming and summer fun. However in the recent past a cult of satan worshipers was vanquished from the town...or so we thought. They have come back as deadly apparitions on a black motorboat and are hell bent on killing everyone who is enjoying the lake. It's up to a Priest and a local Harbour Patrol officer to put a stop to the madness.
We get some awesome descriptions of blood soaked carnage with bodies obliterated into flying chunks of meat, creepy images of ghostly evil satanic beings and ceremonies and some laugh out loud moments (the character of Radcliff and the toilet smell and how it was described 🤣)
Brian G Berry delivers again and again on those B movie feelings of 80s horror movies however this time it's actually based on a movie! What I love about this author is that his stories are just pure fun and entertaining quick paced and bloody.
I will be picking up House shark by him soon another SRS Cinema novelization. I hope he continues to do these. Definitely 5 stars for the amount of enjoyment I got out of this.
Motorboat by Brian Berry is the novelization of the same-named movie, which I have yet to see (and will soon now that I’ve read this awesome story).
Even though Brian followed the plot of the movie, this book is still written in his signature style and it’s filled with gore and action, told in his unique voice.
A demonic black boat is terrorizing the locals of a small lakeside community, and it’s up to Barney, the Harbor Patrol Captain of the community, and a fallen priest, Father Thomas to put a stop to the unnatural evil that has arisen.
Father Thomas thought he had put an end to a satanic cult led by Messiah Ward some time ago, but these things have a way of not staying dead, and Barney and Thomas have to now deal with a tide of slaughter and those responsible for it.
Fast paced and fun, I finished it in one sitting. It really had those amazing 80s vibes too which I love!
NEW RELEASE! Very happy to have this one out there. Thank you to SRS Cinema LLC, Ron Bonk, and Danielle Yeager (for the editing!) Fun, fun, fun work here! Enjoyed writing it very much.
A man fishing, sacrificed, the limbs severed, his head ripped from the shoulders, a morbid surgery, the smell of a slaughterhouse. A black boat, sleak and vulpine, dark as the night crashes into two fishermen, one with his head missing, the other is startled, disoriented as the boat circles him like a shark smelling blood, then the propeller ripping across his body, splitting him lengthwise, intestines and meat spilling turning the water red. An unsuspecting swimmer hacked by the propeller, the white sand sprayed red pieces of flesh flying onto the air like a wood chipper, body parts raining blood. Good vs evil in this great small town setting. I'm a huge movie novelization fan of the 70/80s and this newer movie is awesome. I want more of this please. Fantastic read from Brian.
I am an 80s horror movie junkie at heart. The kills, simple plots, and chaos have my heart. When I heard that Brian Berry was writing a novelization for a movie, I was beyond ecstatic. “Motorboat,” by Brian G. Berry, is the official novelization of the movie released by SRS Cinema,
Lake Jude, family friends, a peaceful lake, wildlife, and trees what can go wrong?! The Brotherhood of Darkness has chosen to return to the lake and unleash evil in the shape of a demonic black boat; that’s what!!!! And Berry gave you all the gory and vivid details about a summer gone awry.
Fast-paced, unique characters, a cult, edge-of-your-seat page-turning, simple plot, B-movie vibes. Just excellent! Berry never disappoints!! Worth a read!
“Motorboat” had it all cults, kills, and summer feels.
Full disclosure: I’ve never seen the film that this book is based on. In fact I’d never heard anything about it until Berry mentioned he was writing the novelization of it. So I can’t tell you how this compares to what is seen on screen.
Though I can tell you that Berry’s version of this story is great. At a measly 109 pages Motorboat is a fast paced, enjoyable read that’s pretty easy to devour in one sitting. It’s silly, complete with every terrible horror trope, from cliched small town cops to satan worshiping cults, however sometimes this is exactly the kind of lowbrow entertainment we need.
Even though I know this isn’t 100% his own creation, the vibe, and overall ridiculous nature of the plot fits right in his wheel house. This is, afterall, the same author who penned the fantastic Snow Shark and its batshit insane sequel Snowshark II. When you put that into context the idea of possessed motorboat intent on killing innocent swimmers feels exactly like an original Berry creation.
I sincerely hope more of these novelizations of tongue in cheek horror movies come from Berry because I’m all for it.
An evil congregation called The Brotherhood of Darkness is led by an immoral individual named Messiah Ward. He, along with his disciples and sacrificial wrong doers were ultimately vanquished by a man of the cloth known as Father Thomas. Two years later, it seems the immoral stranglehold has returned and began its reign over a local community. Father Thomas is once again faced with a unique form of evil. With the help of Chief Barney Raul, the two enter a final showdown between an impending struggle of good and evil.
Within a setting of reed-beds and cattails, Lake Jude is an isolated local lake where campers, boaters and swimmers come to enjoy their summers. Unfortunately, The Brotherhood of Darkness has chosen this site to return as an ultimate evil form, one that roams the lake for revenge leaving mutilated messes in its bloody wake.
Motorboat is the official novelization of the humble budgeted horror movie by the same name. The captain of this ship is none other than Mr. Brian Berry himself. I mean, what a perfect fit this is, it’s literally a match made in Holy Hell. As Berry spins his B-movie talents within these murky gore soaked pages, an entertaining story of good vs evil rises to the creative surface.
Relics, rituals and blood churning carnage make this motorboat-massacre a lovable cesspool of morbid visuals. Branded as a classic low budget 70’s horror vibe, Motorboat serves up its images in large propeller portions of bizarre subject matter.
This book was so much fun to read! I thank you Brian Berry for choosing this project…oh…and also the mulched meat generated by an evil propeller…I thank you for that too. Do yourself a favor and partake in this sinister outdoor Horror Bookworm Recommendation.
I'm a huge fan of Brian Berry and horror B-movies, and this one checks a lot of boxes! It's a quick, fun, gory read for fans of revenge horror, good vs evil, relatable small town characters, Satanic cults, and killer boats.
This is the first of several Berry/SRS Cinema novelizations to come! So if you, too, are a fan... stay tuned! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love buying and reading these types of books. Boats, yachts, historical events and books about the sea are generally excellent. If there are sequels in your series, I would love to read them.
The beauties of owning the books of important authors cannot be discussed. I'm looking forward to your new books.
For friends who want to read this book, I leave the importance of reading a book here. I wish good luck to the sellers and customers...

I am a HUGE Polonia Brothers fan and was so excited to see the novelization of this movie (in which I had a tiny part). This was everything I hoped it could be, mainly a faithful retelling of the movie itself. Though I wish it had included some references to Church of the Damned (the original PBE film in which Messiah Ward first appeared) and given some of the background to set up the plot, I thought it was well-written and a really fun read. Anyone who is a fan of Polonia Brothers films MUST read this, and anyone who has never seen a Polonia Brothers film needs to go out there and start watching!
I saw the movie and read the book. I always say the book is always better and this is no exception. Father Thomas and Sheriff Barney must fight an evil cult that is using a black motor boat to kill people.
A terrible evil haunts this lake. This novelization beefs up the movie's cheesy plot with some good gore making it a fun read. Get on your swimwear and dive in
