Alice is all grown up. Running the Mad Hatter's Cupcakery and Tea Shoppe is a delicious job, until fate--and a fairy godmother with a weakness for bad boys--throws her a curveball. Now, Alice is the newest resident of Wonderland, where the Mad Hatter fuels her fantasies and thrills her body with his dark touch.
The Mad Hatter may have a voice and a body made for sex, but he takes no lovers. Ever. But a determined fairy godmother has forced Alice into Wonderland--and his arms. Now, as desire and madness converge, the Hatter must decide if he will fight the fairy godmother's mating--or fight for Alice.
Marie Hall is a USA Today Bestselling author and has always held a dangerous fascination for creatures that go bump in the night. And mermaids. And of course fairies. Trolls. Unicorns. Shapeshifters. Vampires. Scottish brogues. Kilts. Beefy arms. Ummm... Bad boys! Especially the sexy ones.
Then the day came she realized apart from the sexy bad boy she married, there'd be no vampires/shapeshifters/mermaids/fairies/or even stinky trolls in her future unless she wrote about them. More often than not she can be found roaming the wild, lush tropical forest she calls her backyard (a.k.a. Hawaii) and day dreaming constantly about her latest project.
Her Mad Hatter is the first book of her Kingdom Series.

>>Alice/His Alice<<
"Alice?" he croaked, eyes glistening with a powerful emotion that tugged at her heart, gave her feet wings. She flew into his outstretched arms, resting her ears against the firm beat of his heart. His body trembled. "Love you," he whispered, nuzzling her hair, his hands were frantic on her back, pushing her shirt up, touching her bare flesh. "Loveyouloveyouloveyou, always, always, my Alice, my love." She purred, needing to touch him, to feel the hard press of his body again. "Clothes off," he said, and they were naked. He picked her up, pressing her against the wall. He lifted her, forcing her to wrap her legs around his waist. The thickness of him rested against her aching opening. So good. If this was a dream, death, she didn't care. She never wanted to wake up. "Hatter, I was sick." "Gods," he sobbed and kissed her cheeks, her throat. "Gods Alice." She gripped his face, forced him to pause and look at her. He needed to know... ...His eyes closed and he gently planted a hiss on her mouth, his tongue tracing the seam of her lips, and she knew he believed her. Alice heart thrilled. There were no playful teases, no petting or sweet nothings whispered. This was primal need. He pushed into her liquid heat and her body was so primed, so ready the moment he slipped in fully she felt the quickening...(now, now, now...gotta pick up the book if you want to get some more)... ..."Love you, so much," he muttered, taking her tongue, dueling with it. "Don't ever leave me. Sorry I'm such an ass. Sorry I didn't tell you why. Sorry for so much."...
Me finished with this book Bloody Hell! This book was all kinds of Hotness!!!!!
Alice fumbled with dress. She yanked, tugged, and then finally threw her hands out to the sides. "Just rip it." Grinning, he tore it and immediately was entranced... uh-huh-huh!, can't give too much away. Just bits and pieces to hit you between the eyes...HA!! here is some more!
...her fingers, desperate, yanking at the back of his head, tugging his hair. Sharp nails dug into his scalp, drawing welts and he growled. Pain, and so much pleasure. " I want to touch you, Hatter," she pleaded. All he could do was mumble. She pulled at his still wet shirt. It stuck, refusing to slide up. In her frustration, she ground her center on his...(yeah, I am sure you can imagine, and if you can't all I can say is what.the.hell?!) "Dammit it all to hell," (I use this phrase A-LOT! *smirk*) he growled, ripping the shirt off, unbuttoning his pants. He needed her hands on him now, needed her to end his agony.{yes agony, pulled out the big guns with that one! How great it is :) } ... "Too many bloody clothes," he snarled and then chuckled when their clothes disappeared. In his rush to have her, he'd forgotten a few simple words could have made the process much easier. *arch my eyebrow!*

I loved, loved, loved this book!!!! If I could give it 10 stars I would! I love Alice and The Mad Hatter together.
"The minx" -Hatter
I thought this to be well written and detailed. I love it when Author's wield intricate worlds, that envelope you and open doors you never wish to close. I thought the Poe recitations were awesome! When I think about it, its a perfectly well thoughtout match for Hatter. The madness that is Poe couples Hatter's ramblings so much better. Its a modern emo edge to him. I loved that all consuming passion of Hatters, I knew that once they touched, he is soothed instantly, but just as consuming if she were to leave. Yet, the consumption would be simultaneous. This book was hot and sexy, but it was also reflective. I loved how it spoke to me about taking chances, not quiting, not giving up, about needing one another. How love really does conquer all and soothe's the savage beasts! Fighting for what we really want and not taking things by what may seem; but making sure. Not everything should be taken at face value, not even at the final straw.
I also like how it spoke about giving people a chance. Taking a risk and the humanity in finding the good in people. I love when there are messages between the lines. To me the perfect song for this would be Nickelback "I'd Come For You"
I say read,read, readreadreadreadreadreadreadread This!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to admit, the idea was good. A faerie godmother to the 'bad guys' of our bedtime stories finds herself in need of finding girls for Hook, Big-bad-Wolf, and the Mad Hatter. It sounded like a fun premise - this book being the Mad Hatter's love story. I liked the idea of an insane hero... never read about one of THOSE before in a romance!
And when I got to reading it, I found that it was very clever, making Wonderland actually be the twisted creation of Hatter's deteriorating mind, adapting to his moods/thoughts, distracting him and robbing him slowly of his tenuous grasp on reality. It was rather an intriguing concept. And I'll even admit that the author had a great grasp on literature, her descriptive writing commendable.
But like with 'Drowning Mermaids', the problem wasn't with the idea, it was with the voice... which is actually the author's influence on the book. And I have to say that she ruined her own work quite spectacularly by being the one to execute the final product. Her cess pooled up, time and again, and it was enough to blow the whole thing for me, seeing her behind the curtain, getting off on her story. There wasn't a single look exchanged between Alice and Hatter that didn't involve 'heat spreading between her thighs' or some such smut. She wanted to get erotic so badly that she skanked up what could've been a great book, making it about lust, trash, and heat rather salvation, depth and love. She wanted that desperation that all heroes have for their beloved (a classic 'Twilight' steal that's in just about every fantasy/myth novel since), so much so that she sacrificed the integrity of the storytelling.
And worse, it was apparent from the very start that the author was fan-fic-ing in a BAD way over Johnny Depp (who was mentioned more than once) as her Mad Hatter. That totally blows it for the reader, too... I don't want to know that this was written because you're hot n' bothered over something you saw in a Tim Burton flick. It blows the book completely. I had to force myself to finish it, and won't be reading her Hook and Wolf books.
The beginning was great! So much potential, very funny too, introducing the bad boys of the Kingdom who'll get their own books later on :)
What didn't work for me? Too sweet. Yes, I love sweet books but this was too much, especially in the last 20-30%. I was expecting some crazy bad boy hottie, but I just got a crazy mushy dude.
Oh well. I'll continue with the series because I LOVE fairy tale stories, and I hope it won't be as mushy as this one.
Alice is all grown up, running the Mad Hatter's cupcakery. On one night she gets a visit from a fairy godmother, with a weakness for bad boys. Now, Alice's world is literally turned upside down, and she is plunged head first into wonderland and into the life of the Mad Hatter.
He's completely mad, and stuck in time. She's not the first Alice to meet the beautiful creature but is she the one? Strong enough to break through his walls and free him from his mind? Only time will tell.
" I saw you." " I saw you too, Alice."
Wow. This book blew me away. I fell in love with it, from the very beginning. The mixed ratings and reviews didn't budge me AT all.
I admit I was a little disappointed to find it such a short read, but knowing the other books circle in the same kind of story got me excited. I just so happened to finish watching Alice in Wonderland before I started Her Mad Hatter and it just doubled my appeal in reading, devouring and loving this book. I even cried for gods sake!
Makes me wish my name was Alice and I fell on my ass in wonderland. If only.
I love retellings, and when I noticed this one's based on Alice in Wonderland, I got super excited. This was a short story about Alice and The Hatter. I liked parts of it but it also had so many faults in it. The characters got annoying and Hatter wasn't really mad enough for my liking, he should have been way more complex. Also minus points from the steamy scenes. They could have been a lot better... and also longer. So I like I said, I liked parts of it but this could have been so much better..
I really enjoyed this retelling of Alice in Wonderland. In this story, a girl named Alice Hu has had a fascination with the Hatter for most of her life. She always thought of herself as the Alice in the stories. Turns out, her great-grandmother was. There's a nice love story between Hatter and Alice, and a nice HEA at the end.
I quite enjoyed the writing in this one and the description of Wonderland but the characters were one dimensional and didn't make me feel anything for them. Right near the end we get a small conflict and then pop all is well and its finished within the space of a few pages. What sort of fairytale ending is that?!
Sassy fairy godmother Danika,is tired of the goodie two shoes of the kingdom...
"She was a disgrace to all the fairy godmothers out there with her ridiculous bippity-boppity-booing. Not to mention her clientele. That simpering little doll -- a classic Mary Sue if ever there was one. Oh save me, Prince Charming, for I am pretty and cannot do a thing for myself. *Bat lashes, wiggle bottom, ad nauseum,*Blah!
...and well she "protects" the baddies, well more like the bad boys in the magical realm. The list includes Hook, the Wolf, Genie, Gerard (that took me a while to identify who the hell he was but then who could be the french baddie? ) and our Mad Hatter.
(do you love my casting? I know I do,aha.)
She have to find mates for each one of them but the urgency is with Hatter, since the madness is overcoming him and if he doesn't find the right Alice, everything will crumble down. The problem is that hundreds of Alice's come and go through the years and no one was the right one. Cue to Alice Hu, a geeky young woman that read "Alice in Wonderland" more times that she can count...and she just opened her own business called "Mad Hatter's Cupcakery and Tea Shoppe". And yes, you guessed it right, she is the right Alice for the Hatter so she is brought to the craziness that is Wonderland, and she most prove she is the one.
Overall this was a fun and an emotional/romantic read.
A new-to-me author just found a new fan! I loved the way she captured the Hatter, how she illustrated the madness of Kingdom and all of its creatures. This story was unlike anything else I've ever read before and I'm in love with the magic of it all. Alice was nothing like the Alice of storybooks. And the Hatter... he gave me the deliciousness that Johnny Depp gave this character. It's no wonder that Alice saw the same thing. He was a nut, but Alice was able to see beyond his mad utterings into the amazing man he truly was. There was some push and pull, some major resistance, but in the end this was an entertaining story.
All right, first of all I should say my rating is actually 2.5. I'm very conflicted about this one. See, I didn't hate it, I actually enjoyed reading it, and yet while it's more than good enough for a decent fan fiction story, it doesn't quite cut it as a proper novel. Unless we're talking Mills & Boon. It would make a decent one of them. The plot was adequate, but the writing was occasionally clumsy and rather clichéd. The funny thing is I had a small lump in my throat towards the end due to a certain... accident, which makes me admit that it was an engaging read and I managed to connect with the characters, to my surprise. However, I felt the love-making scenes let it down, big time. They were rushed, full of clichés, and I was extremely put-off by the author's repeated use of the word 'cock.' This is slang which belongs to porn and hard-core erotica. The novel is neither, and the use of the word felt extremely disruptive. There are far better synonyms which would have suited the mood rather than jar it to a teeth-gritting level. Last, but not least, while the editing is mostly good, especially considering it's a self-published book, there are a few typos here and there, like 'shirts' instead of 'shorts,' and I think there might have been a couple of missing words. Nothing major, but it's still something that needs a final polish-off.
All in all, if you're looking for a pleasant and non-taxing read, I'd recommend it, but if you want substance, you might be disappointed.
I never gave a lot of thought to the Mad Hatter in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Then this moment happened in SyFy's Alice...
and I've never been quite the same.
After that Once Upon a Time gave us a Mad Hatter with a name, a purpose, and a rich background story that made you want to give him a great big hug.
These are the things that made me reexamine The Hatter and a million other characters I had overlooked in the past. That and my love for modern retellings of classic tales made me want to pick up this book. I wont lie, I wasn't expecting a whole lot. I got much more than I hoped for.
It was cute. Come on, Alice runs a cupcakery. It was hot. No, I wont go in to details. It was at times heart wrenching. I admit it, I cried.
It also gave me pause to rethink the classics, and I LOVE when books (or television shows) do that. Here's the thing. You've got all these fairies and fairy godmother's flying around and making love matches, why not one for the bad guys. That is what this series is about, the fairy godmother who chose to find matches for the bad guys, and "her guys." I am really looking forward to diving into the next book of the series.
Her Mad Hatter is a modern retelling of Alice in Wonderland... Mad Hatter has a fairy godmother, who must find his Alice in order to stop Hatter from going completely insane and causing the end of Wonderland. Hatter isn't willing to cooperate because "that" Alice broke his heart and only wanted the power of Wonderland. That Alice has a great granddaughter who is also named Alice. Alice Hu is in her early twenties and is obsessed with Alice in Wonderland stories, so much so that her room is decorated like that. She has a special fondness for the Mad Hatter and even names her cupcake store after him. The fairy godmother comes to her and she ends up in Wonderland. The Mad Hatter is sexy but frustrating and Alice finds herself in love with him, but frustrated over his feelings for her. Alice has three days to get Wonderland to accept her and the Mad Hatter to snap out of madness long enough to truly love her. Will Alice be able to beat the odds?
This book is a fun, fast, and fantastical read. I enjoyed reading a grown up spin on Alice in Wonderland. I will definitely check out the next book in this series, about Gerard (from Beauty and the Beast). The writing was well done, well paced and engrossing.
This book is the proof that I should not be allowed to start new stories after 10PM… especially if they are short and have some sort of paranormal / fantasy element… because then I end up in situations like this one… when I finished a book I did not enjoy… a story that I should have abandoned at least half way through… *sighs* it was like a fever dream and I know it’s an Alice in Wonderland retelling and has the Mad Hatter as the main character, so I expected those vibes, but it wasn’t done well here… I didn’t like the writing style, the pacing was all over the place… I get that it was short, but there was no build up in the relationship, it went from nothing to everything in a blink of an eye and don’t even get me started on the ending… it was a whole big mess that I don't even want to get into right now, cause I will get angry again… the premise for this story, and the whole series, was interesting but the execution was horrible… 1 star, because there’s nothing I can find that I liked about this book...
I wasn't sure where this story was going to go but I have to say it was a well written fairytale fantasy. I really liked the way Wonderland was described and also how the bad boys from other story books have a godmother who is understanding of there was and see them as needing love like everyone one else. Danika the fairy godmother is trying to find Hatter's correct Alice but she has to be under handed about how to get them together because of what happened with a past Alice. It does become a lovely romance with lots of scrumptious cupcakes. Which by the way made my mouth water :)
I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.
This was a cute, sexy, magical story!! I can't wait to see what happens with the bad boys!! Very good read if you want craziness, magic, and some lovin!
I obtained a free copy of the omnibus Kingdom Series Collection: Books 1-3 via Amazon on 24-Jun-2014. That means that all three books in the omnibus (Her Mad Hatter, Gerard's Beauty & Red and Her Wolf) are eligible for my 2016 The Mt TBR Struggle is Real challenge!!! Annnnd wait! There's more! These books also qualify for my 2016 Kindle Freebie Freakout challenge! SCORE!
Her Mad Hatter was...different. I don't read a lot of Alice in Wonderland works so I haven't had a chance to get burned out by all the numerous retellings.
I liked the fact that the heroine, Alice (of course), is Asian. And I enjoyed the reasons that the Hatter is considered "mad."
With that being said, I didn't quite get the "Wonderland" feeling that I expected. I did do a bit of skimming as well when there were boring parts. I was also not the biggest fan of the ending. Regardless, it did give me that "first in a series/first book" feeling so I am willing to read more in the series.
Structurally the writing wasn't awful and for erotica the plot wasn't too vomit enduing.
Time to go on a rambling rant now.
The writer seemed to be trying so hard to make the Mad Hatter seem kooky that it felt incredibly forced. And what was with all the Poe quoting? I know there's the riddle in Alice in Wonderland that some people think is referring to Poe (Why is a Raven like a writing desk? Poe wrote on both), but that hardly warrants every other piece of dialogue to be peppered with Poe references.
The characterisation was so sloppy that I never got invested in any of the characters. Sure by the end I had it hammered into me that Alice was short, had a widows peak and wanted the Hatter's dick in her, but other than that there wasn't much to her. The Hatter had even less characterisation and the story just kept asking questions but refusing to answer them. You find out he was once human and he fell into Wonderland but you never find out who he was before he fell, his name, occupation, why Wonderland "accepted" him as it's ruler, why he even needed Alice beyond "He's going crazy, find his soulmate!"
As for Wonderland considering it's meant to be awe inspiring the writer managed to make it sound very flat and bland. Clocks, references to up is down and down is up, and a bit of bad weather doesn't not Wonderland make.
The sex scenes were bland, tame and very few considering it's an erotic novel. Speaking of the sex scenes this woman needed to see a doctor because her nipples hardened at the slightest thing, seriously, she could be thinking of a mild breeze and those babies would be rock hard.
I tried to find it funny but it was just kind of depressing. To me it read like very boring fanfiction.
I am not usually one for romances, but read this because I was in an Alice kick & it was free on the Kindle. I liked the back story, the idea that Wonderland & the Mad Hatter had this relationship that was so tied up. I liked the idea that Alice is destined to be a part of the Wonderland universe in some way, other than being a passer-by. I do get uncomfortable with all attraction being almost entirely sexual (just because, while most people are physically attracted to their mate, there is usually some sort of depth there as well). Romances are just not my genre. But the story was enjoyable nevertheless, despite quivering things & other verbiage that makes me cringe.
I would recommend this to Wonderland fans who enjoy adult content in their readings. A very quick read, it is perfect for that light vacation reading, a travel book, or something of that nature. The story gets a little heavy toward the end, but it's nothing a little sexy time can't turn into a happy ending, apparently. ha
This is the first book I have read by Marie Hall & I really liked it. It was a little crazy & strange but like Alice in Wonderland itself.
This is about a fairy godmother who needs to hook her bad boys up with their soul mate. This particular bad boy is The Mad Hatter. Alice Hu has been in love with The Mad Hatter and everything "Wonderland" since she was 13 so to meet The Mad Hatter is a dream come true. But is it a dream or reality?
Throughout this story you do question that & really I still question that especially at the end of the story but it was well written and I enjoyed it. Who knew that children's bedtime stories could be so sexy. I will be reading book #2 in this series next.
3 Stars... This was a sweet, quick read that had some twists and turns that kept me engaged in the story... A retelling of "Alice in Wonderland" with the idea being that the Hatter is going insane and needs his Alice to regain his sanity and save Wonderland... In steps the fairy godmother with a little spunk who loves her bad boys of fairy tales and seeks to find them happiness... The road to discovering the true Alice is certainly a bumpy one but eventually smooths out to the happily ever after we all love in our fairy tales... Overall, I enjoyed getting lost in the wonder of Wonderland and watching as the Hatter and Alice found their happy ending.:)
OMG i am in love with this book i just bought hook and genie story too as i don't think i'm going to be able to stop till i read whole series, i mean wow.......
so Alice meets the hatter but with a very unusual twist on the fairy tale, the reason Alice went to Wonderland was so the Hatter could find his soul mate, and it was never just the one Alice but lots, Marie Halls imagination as she creates a Wonderland we have not yet seen, she fills it with such a heart wrenching story i was crying at the end. I just wish the book was longer....
Alice Hu is something special- the great granddaughter of the original Alice in Wonderland. The new owner of a cupcakery in Hawaii, life as she knows it changes when a strange old woman enters her shoppe after hours. A fairy godmother who works for the fairy tale bad boys, this woman has searched for decades for the right Alice. If Hatter doesn't find a mate soon, he will go completely mad and Wonderland will go amok along with him. Alice is sucked into Wonderland and she's thrilled- she's been in love with her fictional Hatter since she was 13. When she meets him in the flesh, he is everything she hopes for. Tall, dark, and handsome with a sensual voice, he's familiar to her. The catch? He hates her. The original Alice hurt him bad, and her relative is the spitting image of her. Three days is all Alice has to make the Hatter love her, and to save him from his insanity.

I was blown away by the book. It is not often that I am pleasantly surprised, but this book was far better than I expected.
+Wonderland is described beautifully. It's fantastical and maddening and gorgeous and oh, Alice, I would never want to leave there either, especially if I had a sexy Mad Hatter all to myself too.
+Hatter is yummily described. Normally when I read romance books it's the stereotypical "prince charming" features- brawny, blonde, and blue eyed. Hatter is none of things, and is far more desirable to me. I have a fictional crush on him anyway, so I was fully on Alice's side in this story and lived vicariously through her.
+This was an erotica/romance with an actual plot. The sex was steamy and well written, and the sexual tension and frustration were driving me insane. That being said, this took a back seat to the plot of saving Hatter. This is how I like my romances, as opposed to 200 pages of nonstop meaningless bedroom time.
+I was taken by surprise by the ending. I don't want to give spoilers, but I actually teared up. I probably should have seen it coming, but alas, I did not. I ran out of pages way too soon and I'm not done with their story yet, even if the book is over.
I recommend this to adult fans of Alice in Wonderland who want a bit more spice in their fairy tale. This book is not for children or for prudes. This is the first book in a series, and I cannot wait to read the rest, featuring other fairy tale bad boys.
I've owned this book for years (2013) & hadn't read it. Honestly I'm not usually overly impressed with fairytale retellings. (In general) I barely enjoyed the originals, the probability of my enjoying a retelling in slim at best. That's not to say it's impossible just improbable.
Unfortunately this book wasn't one I particularly enjoyed. The story itself was short @ a 100 odd pages it wasn't long enough to develop any character depth. It was full of angst & what felt to me like teenage hormones muddying up the plot. It thrived on miscommunication & things left unsaid. The editing was atrocious. I did however think the Mad Hatter's obsession with Edgar Allen Poe was brilliant! Kudos on that M. Hall.
I rate this book 2 stars which is a shame being Alice's Adventures In Wonderland is my favorite fairy tale. I'm fascinated by the author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson aka Lewis Carroll. The man was a genius & his IQ must've been ... well amazingly high. The fact he was a supposed pedophile just adds to his complexity & my fascination with the man. If you're interested in the author I'd recumbent BBC'S The Secret World of Lewis Carroll. IDK as far as all the photography fuss all i have to say is Sally Mann's "Virginia" & "Jesse". Anyway rant over. I wouldn't recommend this book. If you're in the mood for a retelling I'd point you to A Court Of Thorns & Roses by Sarah J. Maas If you'd prefer to continue exploring the world of Marie Hall's Kingdom series my suggestion would be skip to book 8 Rumpel's Prize. It's twice the length of this book & as such the characters are fully developed. I'm not opposed to reading books in this series in the future. However I don't feel the need to invest in any additional Kingdom books at this time.
--------- This counts towards the Girls, Guns and Grimoires Challenges > Book Bingo July-Dec 2015 Category listing: FAIRYTALE RETELLING
I actually really like the idea behind this. Hall's characterization of the fairy godmother for the bad guys was really great. I'm just not a big romance book person. The whole "he's a jerk but he's hot" thing is a turn off for me. It's not Hall; it's me. But I will say, if you are romance fan and thinking of reading this - the idea is very creative and smart. Hall is funny.
I'm not rating this because while I couldn't finish it, it has to do with my dislike "he's a bastard but he's hot" idea. Turns me off, sorry.
Loved this book! Loved the characters in the book. Loved the love story between the two characters. The Mad Hatter is one of my new Book crushes. Love him. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
The Hatter is truly going mad and only Alice can prevent it - only question is, is she the right Alice?
Actual rating: 2.5 ⭐
I picked this one up on a whim when researching titles for my Popsugar challenge, where I ahve to read a retelling of a classic. 'Alice in Wonderland' is one of my all time favourite books - not just favourite classics, no no, favourite books! So when I read the blurb for this one I was intrigued. Sadly, the book didn't quite live up to my expectations. Perhaps part of it was because it's actually more a novella than a book, in my opinion anyway. Or perhaps it is because it was more erotica than romance - and really, I don't mind erotica, I love it! I just prefer my erotica to be the side dish for my romance. But maybe that's just me. I was also sort of perplexed by the number of times 'stiffened nipples' were mentioned. Maybe I'm just weird, but my nipples don't go stiff that often... The writing as well was strange, sort of like reading fan-fiction by a wannabe author who throws everything in there all at once without holding back anything. The descriptions are so heavy and filled with highstrung imagery it was a little hard to swallow. I was the same way when I first started writing (fan-fiction) so maybe that's why it reminds me of fan-fiction. But in the end, I was entertained even despite all this. I might even read the next one as well. If nothing else, they easy and quick to finish.
Hello potential reader. I hope you read this because there is one thing you need to know. The first 80-90 pages are torturous. I almost didn't make it, but being the dedicated book reviewer that i am, i trudged through it. Trust me, it gets better.
Although i gave it 3 stars, this isn't going to be a good review. You've been warned.....
I didn't even make it to the actual book content before i started critiquing. I made it to the copyright page. Was it really necessary to include that (and yes i am taking a DIRECT quote from the book, terrible grammar included) "This is a work fiction. All Characters, places and events are from the author's imagination and should not be confused with fact." First of all, "this a work fiction". Great first real sentence and can't even get it right. Yes, it's an omen for what is to come. Second...OH EM GEE really? This isn't real life? i was under the impression that wonderland was a real place and the march hare and the Easter Bunny had tea on Sundays after church. my whole life is a lie.
The humor she tries to put into the book is overdone and contrived. Don't worry, like i said it gets better around page 80. The attempt at humor fades away eventually. Probably due to the fact that Danika the fairy god mother isn't such a big part of the story anymore. She just kind of goes away.
The book is written in third person, and it does get confusing and hard to read sometimes. Like she was trying to do some kind of first person/third person hybrid. It doesn't work.
So Danika the fairy god mother is a match maker for the bad guys. How the mad hatter is a bad guy i'll never know. I found it completely ridiculous that captain hook was one of her "bad 5". She's like super good at her job. She matched the pile of goo that was once the wicked witch of the west with the ogre giant from Jack and the Beanstalk. Match made in heaven. right. I made it to page 19 and i wanted to slam my face against my desk at work. I probably should have, maybe i would have been sent home.
So the story goes on blah blah blah danika is great blah blah blah danika is awesome blah blah danika wants to fuck the mad hatter blah blah blah. It becomes quickly apparent that someone has been using a thesaurus. Large and fancy words are thrown about unnecessarily, and once when it kind of backfired on her.
So danika is off being great and she almost runs into a stork. Seriously? a romance novel where the big pay off is sex and babies come from a stork? wow. Also, i would love to know why the hell one would tar and feather a stork. Makes sense. Makes total sense.
So after pages and pages of danika talking about how great she is, we finally get to Alice. When we first meet her, i get the feeling that she's not too bright. She talks about how her sibs all have fancy jobs and shit, and how she's just as good but everyone thinks she doesn't measure up and wanted to show them she's just as good by opening the cupcake shop. Thats all well and good, but then the narration says "Her feet ached and her toes tingled. She wasn't sure that was totally normal" um...hello....you wore 4 inch heels for the past 8-10 hours. No wonder your sibs are doctors and lawyers and you just own a shop.
The day is over and Danika barges her way into alices shop and gets free shit and leaves an ominous business card behind. Alice takes it home and ponders over the meaning...while in the bath. Totally normal thing to do. So she gets sucked into wonderland and meets hatter. He's a total dick, but she's still all swoon swoon i wanna fuck you swoon. If Alice was male, she'd be a walking hard on.
So she's all pissy and not getting along with hatter and then she says "Bloody freaking hell!". One of my pet peeves is when people from one country tries to tell a story about people from another country and gets it totally wrong. People from Hawaii don't say "bloody hell". It gets on my nerves. Do your cultural homework. This kind of thing pisses Americans off, FYI.
So they're obviously in love with each other but they're both retarded. About the 600th time we are told Alice has a widows peak i finally but a notation in my nook that OK WE FREAKING GET IT ALICE HAS A WIDOWS PEAK HOLY FUCKING SHIT. This kind of thing doesn't need to be said time and time again. once or twice would have been fine.
They keep trying to impress each other and it keeps backfiring due to the fact that Hatter is a basket case freak and Alice is an idiot that dresses like a whore.
Inconsistency and over consistency (is that a term? well it is now) wreaks havoc on the book. Were told not only the same things over and over but were also told different descriptions of the same thing. For instance, Hatter's fingers. Sometimes they're long and sometimes they're short. I guess finger size can change in wonderland too.
Alice and hatter keep trying to woo each other and blah blah blah. He takes her to see a big frog in a lake. Romantic. Apparently magic is what keeps time perpetual. yeah. so they kiss and then cry about that for a while. Her nipples keep getting hard for some reason. Then they finally have sex.
They get all depressed because she's not the one. So she leaves, and he realizes she is the one. and alice gets back and almost dies and then she goes back to wonderland to be with hatter.
See, it was a good story in theory. Kind of cute actually. Just keep an open mind and skim until page 70.
I think everyone believes in fairy tales to a certain extent. But why should only the good guys get to fall in love? That is what Ms. Hall also thought. At the same time with this book I was fascinated and stumped. There were times I loved and times where I thought really inner monologue again? I will continue the series as I love the idea of even the bad guys in Wonderland finding love.3 Mad Hatter ★★★
Danika Fairy Godmother to the bad boys of Wonderland has been informed that she has 1 year to find the mate of each of the bad boys. The first one on her list is the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. As he is getting madder by the day. Danika has to find his Alice and she knows just to find her.
Alice Hu owns a bakery she loves all things Wonderland as in borderline obsessed with it. Danika pays her a visit and leaves her a card saying "Rub Me" suddenly she is in Wonderland and confused and loving it at the same time. Unfortunately Hatter had a bad experience with one of the previous Alice's and actually it was present Alice Grandmother. She Alice has to overcome or the Hatter in this case for them to fall in love. So Hatter has a lot of inner monologue and well tragedy strikes but in all fairy tales there is a happily ever after.
