Now in trade paperback for the first time!

A brilliant movie career, two adoring husbands—none of it is enough to erase the memory of Ariel Hart’s one true love. Back when she was plain, shy Aggie Bixby, a dark-eyed young man named Felix touched her heart . . . then vanished from her life.

Now, she’s about to do something shocking and outrageous—sell her house and leave Hollywood behind. Making her new home in the quiet town of Chula Vista, she meets Lex Sanders, a wealthy rancher and breeder of Arabian horses. Ariel sees something familiar in his smoldering eyes—something that triggers long-buried memories of a love so pure and so perfect, it couldn’t possibly last . . .

Or could it?

Fern Michaels isn’t a person. I’m not sure she’s an entity either since an entity is something with separate existence. Fern Michaels® is what I DO. Me, Mary Ruth Kuczkir. Growing up in Hastings, Pennsylvania, I was called Ruth. I became Mary when I entered the business world where first names were the order of the day. To this day, family and friends call me Dink, a name my father gave me when I was born because according to him I was ‘a dinky little thing’ weighing in at four and a half pounds. However, I answer to Fern since people are more comfortable with a name they can pronounce.

As they say, the past is prologue. I grew up, got a job, got married, had five kids. When my youngest went off to Kindergarten, my husband told me to get off my ass and get a job. Those were his exact words. I didn’t know how to do anything except be a wife and mother. I was also a voracious reader having cut my teeth on The Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, Cherry Ames and the like. The library was a magical place for me. It still is to this day. Rather than face the outside world with no skills, I decided to write a book. For some reason that didn’t intimidate me. As my husband said at the time, stupid is as stupid does. Guess what, I don’t have that husband any more. Guess what else! I wrote 99 books, most of them New York Times Best Sellers.

Moving right along here . . . Several years ago I left Ballantine Books, parted company with my agent, sold my house in New Jersey that I had lived in all my married life and in 1993 moved to South Carolina. I figured if I was going to go through trauma let it be all at one time. It was a breeze. The kids were all on their own at that point. The dump was a 300 year old plantation house that is listed in the National Registry that I remodeled. Today it is beyond belief as are the gardens and the equally old Angel Oaks that drip Spanish moss. Unfortunately, I could not get my ghost to relocate. This ghost has been documented by previous owners. Mary Margaret as we call her, is “a friendly”. She is also mischievous. It took me two weeks to figure out that she didn’t like my coffee cups. They would slide off the table or counter or else they’d break in the dishwasher. I bought red checkered ones. All are intact as of this writing. She moves pillows from one room to the other and she stops all the clocks in the house at 9:10 in the a.m. at least once a week. When the Azaleas are in bloom, and only then, I find blooms on my night stand. I have this glorious front porch and during the warm months I see my swing moving early in the morning when the air is still and again late in the day. She doesn’t spook the dogs. I always know when she’s around because the five of them line up and look like they’re at a tennis match. As of this writing we’re co-habiting nicely.

Most writers love what they do and I’m no exception. I love it when I get a germ of an idea and get it down on paper. I love breathing life into my characters. I love writing about women who persevere and prevail because that’s what I had to do to get to this point in time. It’s another way of saying it doesn’t matter where you’ve been, what matters is where you’re going and how you get there. The day I finally prevailed was the day I was inducted into the New Jersey Literary Hall of Fame. For me it was an awesome day and there are no words to describe it.
I’ve been telling stories and scribbling for 37 years. I hope I can continue for another 37 years. It wasn’t easy during some of those years. As I said, I had to persevere. My old Polish grandmother said something to me when I was little that I never forgot. She said when God is good to you, you have to give back. For a while I didn’t know how to do that. When I finally figured it out I set up The Fern Michaels® Foundation.

Not Worth the Time

Generally, I can read the books written by this author. They are similar in style and content. Having read several, I don’t have high expectations of great writing or thought-provoking plots. However, this is by far the worst one I have read. It appears it probably took only a couple hours to write. It had no depth, and I had no feelings about any of the characters. It was silly- but not in a good way. In addition, it contained several typos and did not have needed transitions. So, don’t waste your time reading this.

Ariel Hart was born Agnes Bixby. She ran away to Mexico one night and married the son of her Mexican housekeeper in a secret ceremony when she was 16. Her parents found out that she liked him and her father got himself transferred and they moved away. They moved a lot while she was growing up because her father was in the military. She came back to Chula Vista, CA, 4 years later and could find no trace of Felix Sanchez. She tried to find him with no luck.
Agnes moved to Hollywood to become an actress and changed her name to Ariel Hart. She was now nearing 50 and her housekeeper, Dolly, was also her best friend. She was having trouble finding a job. Dolly and Ariel both noticed some spots on her face. She noticed her face was becoming sore so she went to the doctor thinking that she had an abscessed tooth. She found out that she needed surgery to remove several growths on her face. She knew that she was through with making movies now. She didn't look too bad but the dimples were enough that she knew she wouldn't be in front of a camera any more.
While she was recovering, her agent bought her a trucking business. She and Dolly moved back to where she lived when she met and married Felix. She had trouble with some of the guys who worked for her because they had trouble accepting a female boss. She fired one of the bully leaders. She and Dolly took truck driving lessons and computer lessons. They learned as much as they could about the business in order to run it to the best of their ability.
Ariel was well liked by the actors and actresses in Hollywood because she cared for people. One of the people she helped out was Carla Simmons. Ariel paid for to go through rehab and gave her money when she needed it. Carla always said she would pay Ariel back but Ariel wasn't concerned. She had plenty of money.
Her biggest trucking customer was Lex Sanders. She didn't know it but Lex had also changed his name. He grew up as Felix Sanchez. He worked for a man who left him his property when he died. He had paid for Felix to go to college. After his death, Lex took his name and became Lex Sanders.
Lex had never married and he had never met anyone he wanted to marry either, until he met Ariel. The more they were around each other, the stronger their attraction to each other grew. Ariel hired another detective agency to find Felix with no luck. Lex hired a different agency to help him locate Agnes. Neither agency found the person they were looking for.
Felix still had his original marriage certificate. It was never filed in the USA so it couldn't be located. He took the certificate to his lawyer and asked him to file for a divorce because he had decided he wanted to marry Ariel.
Ariel's truck started being hijacked. They thought it was the disgruntled worker until the did some research and found out a gangster had purchased property nearby and was trying to put some of the local business out of work. Ariel fought back and was working with some FBI agents. She figured out they were fake agents and got rid of them. She then called in the real FBI and they started to help.
Ariel arranged to have a lot of actors and actresses come pick the ripe avocados for Lex and the local farmers. They managed to get past the machinations of the neighbor. He had paid the regular workers to not help the local farmers. They hijacking cost the insurance for the trucks to be cancelled. The actors and actresses got all the crops picked and loaded on the trucks. Ariel's idea had let the local farms survive another year.
Ariel and Lex had wanted to sleep together but something kept coming up to cause interference. The biggest thing was a dog that Lex had talked Ariel into getting. He was super protective of Ariel and didn't let Lex get too close to Ariel. They had to convince Snookie that Lex was a friend. That took time.
After the actors and actresses all left Chula Vista, Snookie let Lex spend the night with Ariel. Before they ended up together, they had both figured out who that they were Felix and Agnes. There was so much about the other person that reminded them of the other person that each was convinced of the other's true identity.
Lex asked Ariel to marry him again. Dolly had decided to move back to Hollywood to work for a director as a housekeeper. She thought that maybe the would end up dating. Ariel missed Dolly tremendously and wanted her to come back and stay with near her. Lex's housekeeper and quite and moved away. Neither of them could cook. Ariel was trying without success.
Lex took a trip to Hollywood and convinced Carla to try and seduce the director away from Dolly so she would come back to Chula Vista. It worked. Dolly showed up on their wedding day with every intention of staying. Lex had build a house for Dolly on their property.
Asa, who had sold the trucking company, bought the business back from Ariel now that the troubles with the company were over. He had gotten bored having nothing to do. He was at the wedding and introduced Dolly to a friend of his and they seemed to hit it off. Ariel was convinced that he was the right person for Dolly.
Ariel had done something every day to keep a promise to Lex. She make a book of wishes where she wrote down a wish every day. One of her wishes was that she would be able to tell someone about Felix one day. She often wondered if Lex did the same while they were apart.

This book could have been a little better. Slow to begin and anti-climactic at the end. After the big climax, it trailed on and on. The center of the book was fine and I enjoyed the interplay among the characters, but the beginning and end both need work.

Awful

The premise was ridiculous. The characters were caricatures and unlikeable. The situations that arose were supposed to be comedic but were just asinine.

I love the way romance novels allow you to escape, experience passion, and find intrigue and/or suspense. You can tell that the Wish List was supposed to have all those elements, yet they were strongly lacking.

The novel starts out with an actress who is coming to terms with the reality that she is an “older” actress in Hollywood. Here they mention she has bumps on her face which she later has surgically removed yet it leaves scars so she decides to leave Hollywood because she’s too fearful of what people may think.

In learning about and having this evolve we learn back history on the main character and that she was married as a teenager to the man of her dreams yet was forced to leave the country with her parents and cannot find her husband despite many attempts.

Fast forward the 34 years and after the surgery they meet with the man she married being the troublesome customer. They start dating yet don’t realize that each other’s long lost love. Meanwhile, things begin to go wrong at work, his ranch, and her dog keeps spoiling their plans. Then she calls in a few favors, the ranch is saved, and they realize they’re already married.

Honestly, there’s no passion or suspense. The book is predictable and the characters are seriously lacking. The story is missing so many details (why she needed her surgery, how they suddenly knew, etc) yet goes in way more detail than is needed in other areas (I don’t care how she redecorated her new office). Further, the dialog is hard to follow not knowing who is saying what and it’s frequently long rants. This is my first Fern Michaels book and honestly it feels as though she’s bored herself. Overall would not recommend.

Wish list by Fern Michaels

First this is an old book brought back which would have been ok if they had updated it a little but they were lazy and left it smelling of mothballs with cigarettes and CB radios.

Second this book reads more like a junior high short story than a novel. This is by far one of the worst books I have read and it was one of the dumbest story lines I have ever read.

If you can believe an actress buys a trucking company and then decides to learn how to drive the big rigs plus all of Hollywood comes to pick fruit when she calls then you will love this book. ( Lots of BIG names got dropped here which just made the book sound more far fetched. ) Along with the fact that all her ex husbands gave her lots of money and they all stayed best friends…..

It had no depth, and I had no loving feelings about any of the characters and the story is so choppy it feels like it was sentences thrown in to the air and where ever they landed they were written in to the story.

I really liked this heartwarming story about lost loves and second chances, hope and fear, dreams and wishes. After reading Malice, I needed a light read with less heavy of a topic and I found it in Michaels' Wish List. From page one, I was drawn in by the honesty and sincere portrayal of the main character Ariel hart who is fed up with Hollywood and the false leads that go with it. In the voice of Ariel Hart and her maid/friend Dolly, women's issues are addressed with honesty and candor.
Issues of rights for minorities are also addressed here in the voice of Lex Sanders, a rancher who knows the pain of discrimination and ridicule due to his ethnicity and heritage.
This is the best Michaels book I have read since Yesterday with Mama Pearl and all her orphans. Highly Recommend!!

Hard to finish

This is one of the worst books I've ever read. The only reason I finished it was because I'm kind of OCD about finishing a book once I start it. The meandering way the two love interests reached their "happily ever after" was so unrealistic and unbelievable the book should have been classified as a fantasy. The absurd name dropping of Hollywood bigwigs was downright embarrassing. I never felt emotionally connected to ANY of the characters. The multiple typos and grammatical errors were also very distracting. All in all, it was a complete waste of my time.

Fern Michaels’ books are always good for a cute and sweet romance! This one I do confess was a little slower than her others and it lacked some of the usual robust romance and the ending was a little far reaching for me. Ariel is a beautiful movie star , who at 50, needs to face the reality of starting over ! She never forgot her one true love in life and needed to move on! Ariel and her best friend and confidante, Dolly are given just that, a new lease on life ! Leaving her glamorous Hollywood life behind , she meets a sexy and wealthy rancher who is all so familiar!

Ariel is an aging Hollywood actress in her 50s, omg, whose star has fallen and somehow she ends up owning and running a trucking company. Seems absurd, right? Then she meets wealthy rancher Lex whose eyes and charm remind her of someone very familiar from her past!

This seems too corny to be true, but Fern Michaels' writing was fun, the characters were delightful, and I absolutely loved the dialogue between Ariel and her friend Dolly. Nothing like "sisterhood," right? This book put a big smile on my face!

I really enjoyed this book. It is the story of an older actress who wants to leave Hollywood before she gets the title of a has been. Her friend buys a trucking company for her and she moves to Chula Vista to live. When she and her best friend arrives, she changes the appearance of the office, takes a class to learn karate, and a class to learn how to drive a semi. Then there is the fact that she has been married three times and has changed her name.

This story got off to a very slow start and didn't seem to be going anywhere. As the story picked up and developed I did find myself enjoying it. There was a section that was a bit unbelievable, but I guess it reminds readers that there are people who will do anything for a friend. Just an OK for me on this one - 4 out of 10.

I wasn’t feeling this. Everything was too corny; the characters, the dialogue, the storyline. I didn’t feel or sense any real chemistry between the love interests.
Maybe it’s my age, but I get annoyed with romance novels like this nowadays, especially ones that are so overly sappy it makes your eyes roll.
Thank you for the free copy anyway.

This was an ok book. The story was ok. The charters were ok. There wasn't really anything to keep me wanting to read it, but I did finish it. The kibble version was annoying because there were all these periods not at the end of sentences, not sure why. It was an ok book.

Great Book!

I love happy endings, and the fact that in most if not all of Feen Michaels books, there are dogs and/or cats. Just loved Snookie in this story, how wonderful it would be to have a dog like this one!

I kind of liked that this story started out when Ariel was at the end of her career. As for her new career – what an interesting choice! I also really enjoyed speculating on when Felix and Aggie would recognize each other despite their new personas.

I normally enjoy Fern’s book. This one was very slow to read. The twist was never ending. The end was not what I was hoping for. Normally the end a WTH moment, this book did not have that for me. I felt sad this book did not have her norm of writing.

* I won this in a goodreads giveaway.

Not sure why they were giving away old books, but I know she's written tons of books and popular and I'd never read any. I don't get it. This was the worst dialogue writing I've ever read. It was torture.

them. I liked this book but the dog
got to be to much. Don't get me wrong I loved dogs but mine won't survive the food she was given.
