One Dom to Love

Rate this book
Raine Kendall has been in love with her boss, Macen Hammerman, for years. Determined to make the man notice that she’s a grown woman with desires and needs, she pours out her heart and offers her body to him—only to be crushingly rejected. But when his friend, very single, very sexy Liam O’Neill watches the other Dom refuse to act on his obvious feelings for Raine, he resolves to step in and do whatever it takes to help Hammer find happiness again, even rousing his friend’s possessive instincts by making the girl a proposition too tempting to refuse. But he never imagines that he’ll end up falling for her himself.

Hammer has buried his lust for Raine for years. After rescuing the budding runaway from an alley behind his exclusive BDSM Dungeon, he has come to covet the pretty submissive. But tragedy has taught him that he can never be what she needs. So he watches over her while struggling to keep his distance. Liam’s crafty plan blindsides Hammer, especially when he sees how determined his friend is to possess Raine for his own. Hammer isn’t ready to give the lovely submissive over to any other Dom, but can he heal from his past and fight for her? Or will he lose Raine if she truly gives herself—heart, body, and soul—to Liam?

Time of Death... hell if I know. I made it about 2 hours.

Now, I've been trying to tone down the bitchatude recently, quietly DNFing my way through a stupid number of books this year but this one...

I need to remind myself and eliminate ANY and ALL chance of Jedi mind-tricking myself into going here again.

My grievances: (in no particular order)

Raine is about 2.5 milliseconds away from getting sucker punched.

(and then I would run away because she cray)

Hammer is a stupid fucking name. Also, he's a stupid fucking "dom" who has pathetic "domming" skills.

Liam is the only one that seems like he ain't sipping the ding dong juice while riding the high speed bullet crazy train bound for CRAZOOL, but I'm sure that will change on a dime. Then I'll want to make him the third segment of a human centipede.

Christian Fox sounds bored as all the fucks. Not just the one. ALL OF THEM. He's the epitome of "mailing it in".

So...

I'm saving my sanity.

And to my future self who maybe thinks, 'oh you were just in a mood', NO! NO, YOU WEREN'T!

This book has such high ratings, and I love Shayla Black, but I am not a fan of this one. First of all, I should say I didn’t read the blurb and had no idea what I was getting into. I like Shayla Black and the ratings were high so I just read it blind. This is the last time I do that. I figured from the cover that it might be a ménage, which isn’t my favorite but I can handle it. I didn’t expect it was a love triangle. I hate love triangles.

I can handle the odd love triangle if it’s done well, without any cheating. It’s tough to do, but I’ve seen a few authors do it well. In my opinion, the heroine in this book cheated. She made a commitment to one man and then had sex with another the same exact night. I wanted to smack her. The fact that Liam forgave her indiscretion just went totally against his character. He is a dom. He thrives on control and trust and he lost both but doesn’t care? I don’t think so.

Also, I didn’t realize it was a series that is continuing with the same characters. I’m getting a little sick of this new trend. What happened to the good old days when a romance was told from start to finish in ONE book and then we moved on to other characters? Why does everyone feel like dragging this stuff on lately? If I had known going in I wouldn’t have bothered with this book, and I am not planning to read the next.

Story: GOOD
Intimacy Level: GOOD + D.R.I.P (Don't Read In Public)
Enjoyment: GOOD
Length: 4305 kindle
Style: BDSM Erotica
Series: The Dom of Her Life #1

This book was like a Dom soap opera, The Dom and the Restless. With everything going on, my mind felt well exercised, both mentally and physically. This one loves that one for six years, but then this one now likes her but she can't help going back to the other one and so on. It's way better written than my description and a little competition amongst friends, brings out the best sexually in everyone.

Raine is in love with Hammer, her boss, since she was eighteen. Now six years later and more than frustrated, Raine's action leaves her with two Doms to handle. Raine is not your typical sub, but can you blame her, after six years of built up frustration it's like she snapped. Hammer is troubled by his past and no matter what, he refuses to take Raine as a sub. Stepping in is Liam, Hammer's best friend whose good deed backfires because of is new found feelings for Raine. This adds an interesting turn of events. In a story I'm always set on the guy I'm routing for when dilemmas like this occurs, but they were both just too tempting and sexy as hell and I feel like Raine at the moment. Once Hammer looses Raine and that need kicks in, you don't know what you had till it's gone, watch out because your kindle will become inflamed. As for Beck, an added Dom thrown in for a bit, he seems twisted but oddly sexy and alluring as well with that mouth piece on him when he speaks. The ending is left open so we have to wait and I look forward to it.

Ah!! This book was such a ride! And it ended so intensely! I'm very excited to read the next in this series. I was so conflicted throughout this whole book; I would go from loving a character to not being able to stand them, and then being close to tears with frustration and not knowing how to feel.

I really liked Raine, although I thought she was a little naive in regards to Macen. But her naiveté made sense considering her past, so it was forgivable. I like how she stayed true to herself and was so strong after all she had been through. She came to know what she needed and how certain people could not give that to her. I thought her and Liam together were fabulous, and Macen was just a disaster with her. Thankfully she got herself together after a while and was able to reflect on what was good for her versus what she thought she needed.

Macen/Hammer drove me crazy! I felt sympathetic to him in the beginning of the book, but as time went on, I just wanted to smack him! What an asshole! I wanted him to stop being so selfish and get his shit together, but he was so f***ing stubborn. He was so willfully oblivious to how is actions would impact Raine, knowing what he did about her and her feelings, and all he could think about was himself and his own issues. I did not like what he thought he needed from Raine; clearly it didn't work out with his last wife, so why would he keep looking for the same thing?? It did not sound like a satisfying relationship. And his interlude with Raine was almost unforgivable. He was seriously lacking in self-reflection.

Liam was definitely my favorite character. His schemes kind of backfired for him (in a good way), and he rolled with the punches. He came to truly care for Raine and instinctively knew what she so desperately needed. He stood up for her and his protective instincts came out in full force. Finally someone truly paying attention to Raine and trying to fulfill her needs. He was caring, attentive, and forgiving. He was basically the perfect man. Plus his super hot Irish accent! I love me some Irish men :)

The three of them made such an unforgettable group! I was holding my breath repeatedly, waiting to see how things turned out. I usually hate love triangles and cheating, but the thoughtfulness of the characters and their circumstances allowed me to get passed it. Also, vaguely knowing the premise of the third book helped. I can't wait to see how events unfold in the next couple of books turn out!

Oy... I wanted to give this author another chance after being so utterly disappointed by the first book I read from her. Sadly, I was disappointed again.

All of the main characters were utterly annoying, childish, and seem to have no idea what they're doing. Sneaking into a man's bedroom while he sleeps and giving him a blowjob without his consent is just as much sexual assault as it would be vice versa. Yet, this book portrays it as nonchalantly as if it were a basic code of conduct.

These books claim to be BDSM, and yet they violate the most basic rules. The Doms display behavior that would get them shunned from any BDSM community (manipulating a sub into doing something she doesn't want; forcing her to stay when she wants to leave, etc.). So does the sub, by the way, because sexually assaulting a Dom is just as much a no-go.

The oh-so-good Dom gives the sub over to a Dom who has repeatedly ignored the limits of submissives. He knows that. Yet he still gives her over. And, oh surprise, that Dom oversteps the boundaries again. I could not take take either Hammer nor Liam seriously as Dominants, nor could I take Raine seriously as a sub. She felt like a 12-year-old girl. I know she was supposed to be a brat, but no brat I know ever acts like this and goes so far as to sexually assault a Dom who has previously made clear in words that he has no interest in her.

I would recommend to read this book as fantasy fulfillment, if these are the kinds of fantasies that you have. Nothing more. It should not be taken as representative of BDSM or BDSM communities. On the contrary. And I say this as an active lifestyle player. Our communities suffer a lot from unhealthy representations of BDSM, like it is in this book.

And yes, it's fiction. I am really not especially sensitive when it comes to fiction. But this book broke too many rules. So many in fact, the it became unbelievable to assume the characters were good Dominants. that's a turn off and greatly diminishes the reading experience for me.

I would not voluntarily recommend this book when asked if I had a good BDSM erotica to recommend. But go ahead, give it a read and judge for yourselves. Tastes differ, and maybe it floats your boat.

A gosh darn soap opera, that's what this is! And I want to know if Raine is truly worth the drama-rama? Okay, that's probably a Yes, but only because her heart is pure and compromised by the two Doms who love her. Feck, but this is why I grumble over series. I want my HEA and I want it NOW. Oh, and can I just mention that it seems to me that living in the dungeon of the BDSM club Shadows might be sort of yucky. Wouldn't it smell of bodily fluids and bleach? Gross, I know, but, I'm imagining a place that is closed off and that gets zero fresh air. I think I'm supposed to be looking beyond this and should only imagine beautiful people bonking, huh? Oops, sorry, I'll kneel here and be quiet...shhh.

I just Love Shayla Black!! Now I can add Jenna Jacob and Isabella Lapearl!!!

This book was Amazing. I couldn't put it down. I felt so much emotion my heart would pick up beat then I would be tearing up! I loved all the characters. I can't wait to read the next one. Deep down I wonder if there will be a book about (Beck). I didn't like him so much but after reading the book I can't help but wonder why he is the way he is and if he will find his submissive.

The heroine, Raine, is deeply damaged. Her self-esteem is rock bottom. Her instinct for self-preservation is gone. She is vulnerable and so needy and starved for affection, she is desperate. She has earned a college degree but appears to be spending her days making cookies and furtively observing the lives around her at the BDSM club where she lives, The Dungeon. Raine is a former runaway from an abusive home.

Macen, the man who rescued her six years before, who owns The Dungeon and lives there with her and other employees. Macen believes his needs are so debased that no woman he loves should be degraded into serving them. So Macen has lived his life with no love,(since a tragedy long ago occurred) only empty encounters with Dungeon women. But he has loved Raine for years from afar.

Macen can't let go of the ghosts that haunt him or the guilt and shame he feels for failing someone he loved. So, instead of making Raine his and giving them both what they so desire, he pushes her away and into the arms of his best friend, Liam O'Neill. Liam's intent was to take an interest in the raven-haired beauty, hoping to make his friend jealous and push Macen into action. Instead, Liam finds himself falling hard for Raine. But while Macen doesn't feel he's good enough for Raine, he also doesn't want to see her with anyone else. Caught between two powerful Dominants, can Raine choose or will she walk away, destroying them both and breaking her heart in the process?

It takes a book with this level of raw exposition to test your loyalty to the erotica genre. It is excellent if you want hot naked sexy details. The BDSM situations are as well-drawn and graphic as I have read in any book. Highly graphic but seriously delicious. :)

I absolutely loved this book!!!! Highly recommend!!

I was provided a copy of the book by the Authors for an honest review.

Let me just say that I just finish reading this book, I had read so many BSDM books and I love reading them, but this book no first I don't think this is the right name for this book, second how the story is told don' go with me, I finish the book cause I wanted to see how it would end, but this book got me angry in so many way that I felt like throwing my Kindle across the room that's how mad it made me.

I don't want to say more cause some other reader might like it, from the characters we have Mace (A.K.A) Hammer, and we have Raine as the female lead, and then their is Liam, and let me tell you that from this characters the only one that I end up liking more was Liam.

The character of Hammer the Author put him to be like a monster, he was cruel to the woman he claim his in love with, he treat her bad and he just wanted a slave, his attitude did not go with me.

The character of Raine let me just say that she had the attitude, like she want to be a sub but at the same time she dont want to be control by no one, I think she don't have no sub in her bones.

The character of Liam let me just say that I love him, he knows how to treat a woman, and make her feel special, I like the way he treat Raine he understand her needs, and how to treat her.

What I don't like about the book is how the female character, have sex with one man and at the same night few hours later she goes and sleep with someone else, that's when I stop liking the book.

I don't think I will read the following book in the series, I AM SORRY BUT THIS IS NOT HOW I SE A BSDM BOOK.

One Dom to Love is the first BDSM book I have ever read and I don't think this is the genre for me. I've read books in the "dark" genre that feature elements of BDSM and I've enjoyed those because of the complexity it added to the specific character, but One Dom to Love was different from those. I wondered if these characters have lives outside of submissive training and sexual activities. However, the activities in this particular book are pretty reserved from what I expected, but maybe my expectations were a bit off. There was some interesting character building in this one as these characters got to know one another's histories, and that is the reason I gave two stars instead of one. It should be noted that this was an impulsive read for me. I didn't look up the synopsis on goodreads first - the audiobook was new on an online library I frequent so I borrowed it because I've been wanting to try the genre and it was a fairly short book. I may try the genre again after getting some recommendations and doing some research. If you enjoy the BDSM genre then disregard my rating and give this one a try. The goodreads rating averages at 4+ stars so lots of readers obviously enjoyed it. Note: This is the first installment in a series and it ends on a cliffhanger.

This was a pretty good menage read that I listened to on audio. Raine's been in love with Macen Hammerman her boss for years and while he lusts after her, he feels it's his duty to reject her. Instead he flaunts his other lovers in front of her, takes advantage of her constant submissive gestures to him. Liam who is Hammer's bestfriend takes over and helps Raine he loves her. When Raine leaves him Hammer realizes what he had. The night of the punishment goes horribly wrong and somewhere along the way Liam claims Raine as his sub in training and man does he claim her. Liam makes Raine his. Hammer loses it when this happens. Destroying an area in his club, Raine hears something and out of the bed she's sharing with Liam to see what's going on. Of course an insanely drunken Hammer confesses his love to Raine and they share a night together that is hot. Liam finds Raine and decides to take her away, which promptly sends Hammer into yet another downward spiral. This was a really good book the sex scenes were hot as hell and I enjoyed listening to it. This was my first time reading or listening to two of the authors but Shayla I have read and listened to a lot of her books and they are always hot and well written like this book was. I am looking forward to reading or listening to the next book in this series.

3.5 “precious” Kisses

It’s been a long time since I read a good BDSM book…and One Dom to Love definitely fit the bill nicely. There is something to be said for a book that just oozes sex…and you can’t go wrong with Shayla Black, Jenna Jacob and Isabella LaPearl…these ladies know their sexy stuff. The additional angst element was an unexpected surprise and the bonus of it being a love triangle made me enjoy the journey that much more.

Raine Kendall…my brave, strong willed girl…two Dom’s and too many decisions, what’s a girl to do. Raine has been through the ringer and then some. Her past is a horrible tale of abandonment and god awful parenting…but her strength to survive is stronger than she gives herself credit for. I loved Raine’s spirit…that’s honestly what connected me to her. She’s a bit of a runner (when the going gets tough) but…I didn’t think it was a bad thing all the time. It’s her defense mechanism and after her history, it’s warranted. She’s a broken girl and she really needs men like Macen and Liam in her life to really stabilize her and give her the strength that she is lacking. While she might be a natural at being a sub, it’s going to take a lot of work and training to get her comfortable at that level. The trust that she needs to put into her Dom is not there…yet.

‘“Really, precious? You want me to make you?” Hammer’s voice lowered dangerously. She’d trampled over every submissive rule. Insulted him utterly. Challenged him in a way he couldn’t let pass. And damn if he didn’t want her even more. The girl had fire; she would burn him in bed.’

Macen “Hammer” Hammerman…oh boy, where to begin with this big old mess of a man. Macen is Raine’s protector…he took her in when she literally had nowhere else to go, he’s cared for her, encouraged her and helped her become the woman she is…which is hard not to love. But he’s shielded her from so much…part of the protective streak, I get that, but he’s not allowing her to live because he wants her, but thinks she deserves better. Sounds like crazy logic? Yeah…I know…it was difficult for me to rationalize. I understood it to a certain degree…but he wasn’t being fair to Raine and if anything, he was just feeding into her feelings for him, albeit unintentionally. His inability to get over his past and his fears and realize Raine is what he wants leaves the door wide open for an Irishman to walk in and steal his girl.

“Then stop holding her to you when she tries to leave.”
“It’s not that simple. Every time she walks into the room, I come to life. Every time she leaves, I fucking fall apart. I’m not trying to hurt her.”

Liam O’Neil…it’s funny because there were a few times that Liam was referred to as a white knight, and I have to agree…if white knights have kinky fetishes and a sexy Irish accent, then that’s the kind of white knight I would want! Liam is…exactly what Raine needs. He wants to be there for her, support her, help her at a turning point in her life when she desperately needs it most. That only made me love him more. He’s caring and compassionate, while still having the authoritative Dom vibe. And did I mention he’s Irish? Be still my beating heart…the things that come out of his mouth and then adding that he calls her lass…I was in a heaven. Liam was a calm and level presence among heated tempers and rash actions, I totally loved everything that he brought to the story and the influence he had on Raine.

‘Every kiss between them was fireworks and rocket launchers. God, he felt incredible. Hot, muscled, persuasive, determined. He kissed like a god. With one seductive whisper, he could distract her utterly. One touch, and she felt her defenses crumbling. But those lips could capture her soul. Yes, she loved Hammer, but…Liam set her on fire.’

This is a love triangle of epic proportions and I loved that aspect of it! I love picking teams…but I’ll be honest...I'm completely torn on this one! I almost always go for the guy who has the most history, and I do love Hammer and Raine together but…he needs to get his head straight and figure out if he’s going to allow his past to ruin anything in his future. And honestly…I cannot deny the effect Liam's presence as had on Raine is a huge pull for me…because I do think he is what she needs right now. The electric combination of all of these characters is what kept me glued to the page. There is so much desire and passion and chemistry…even from the couples separately, but having both men vying for Raine’s affections, it was a visual orgasm that I couldn’t get enough of.

“I will try. For you, I will always try.”
He trailed his fingers up the inside of both thighs, his breath feathering over her aching slit.
“Oh, precious, you’ll do a hell of a lot more than try. Anything you set your mind to, you accomplish. You’ll find the strength. The desire to submit burns brightly inside you, and I’m determined to make it blaze even hotter for me.”

I’ve read a few books by two authors…but this is my first book by three authors – it’s almost like the queens of BDSM decided to blow my mind with the ultimate fantasy, combining all the things I love into one book. Aside from a little repetitiveness with words (which is a pet peeve of mine), the writing was fantastic. I could so not tell it was written by three authors, which is a testament to how well they work together. It’s also pretty amazing that we go into three different POV’s…Raine, Liam and Macen…not once is it ever confusing or unclear as to whose head we are in, it’s never redundant and it’s completely necessary to understand everything that is going on. One thing that really bothered me was the timeline of the story…in the context of what was going on, the heightened emotions, the drama between the characters…it seemed rushed. Everything was happening so fast and I didn’t see the need for it, a couple of extra days here or there wouldn’t have hurt – if anything it would have made more sense at least for me. I guess it just always seemed to have this sense of urgency that I didn’t really get. The only other thing that irked me was Macen’s wishy-washy-ness. I got it…but he’s supposed to be this big bad Dom and it was the only thing that clashed with the image I had of him in my mind.

“Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds,” she whispered in the dark. “Or bends with the remover to remove.” O no! It is an ever-fixed mark that looks on tempests and is never shaken…
Suddenly, that made sense. Because of Liam.
“But bears it out, even to the edge of doom…”

I knew that One Dom to Love was part of The Doms of Her Life series…which is fine by me, I love series, and seriously, there is no way to contain their story to one book, it’s just too much. While the ending to ODtL isn’t a necessarily cliff, at least not in my opinion, things are unfinished and are nowhere close to being done with Raine, Liam and Macen. I’m excited about the possibilities and to see what’s next for them…there are so many decisions left to be made and I have no clue what’s next!

** JOSIE'S 4.5 STAR REVIEW

I love Shayla Black, I have read all 8 of the Wicked Lover Series, 6 of the Masters of Ménage Series and 3 of the Doomsday Brethren Series. She knows how to write sex also knows how to add angst, passion and excitement into a story. When I saw she was going to co-author One Dome to Love, I just had to have it.

One Dom To Love was an amazing read, and the writing was flawless. After I read the first page I was hooked and I could not put the book down. The characters are complex, intriguing and believable. I found myself wanting to know more and more about them. We are given three POV’s in this story and it just added more to the complexity of this story. I wasn’t prepared to meet and fall in love with these three amazing characters and each of their stories and fight. One Dom To Love is a story about Raine, Hammer and Liam.

Raine is a very complex and troubled character. She has very low self-esteem and is known for running when things get bad. Throughout the story Raines’ character evolves from someone that is helpless and needy to a woman who will not settle for less in her life. She becomes a woman who wants to be wanted, loved and cherished. Although she has a degree, she works at The Dungeon cleaning up the club and baking for the owner. Hammer rescued Raine from the alley behind the Dungeon years ago and has taken care of her. Raine has been in love with him but he treats her like she is a child.

Hammer’s character, is one that will make you scream and pull your hair out. He is the owner of the Dungeon and lives there along with Raine and other employees. Tragedy years ago changed him into the man he is today. He lives his life without love but he enjoys occasional sexual encounters with different submissives at the club. His needs are specific and demanding. He believes Raine is not capable of having the kind of dom/sub relationship that he’s looking for. He pushes Raine away every chance he gets but it is not because he doesn’t love her. He doesn’t feel like he is any good for her.

Liam has been Hammer’s best friend for years but has watched Hammer live with the guilt of his past and his neglect for Raine. Hammer pushing Raine away only ends up pushing her right into Liam’s arms. I can’t even tell you how much I fell in love with Liam (I have decided to go to Ireland). Liam thought by being there and nurturing Raine, Hammer would wake up and fight for her. The problem was, after one encounter with Raine and having her in his arms he falls in love with her. Since Hammer has no problem pushing Raine away Liam decides he’s going to collar the Lass and make her his.

Hammer is not prepared when he sees Raine in Liam’s arms and although he does not want a relationship with her he doesn’t want her with anyone else. Raine is caught between the two dominant men. Hammer the man she had loved for nearly 6 years and Liam the man who is ready to claim her as his.

There are some pretty steamy, erotic and hot scenes in this book. I swear to God these authors left me panting. The BDSM’s scenes were not over-done and did not make me cringe, in fact I wanted more! You will scream with things that go on between Hammer and Raine. You can feel the tension and love with them but Hammer made things so hard. Liam and Hammer’s relationship is put to the test because unlike Hammer, Liam knows what he wants and he is not afraid to risk it all for Raine. Who will Raine choose? Will Liam win Raine’s trust and heart? Will Raine wear Liam’s collar? Will Hammer finally go after Raine or will he loose her to his best friend Liam? Let me tell you, when I got to the end I needed more. I was so happy to see that the second book is out, and you can bet your butt I one-clicked that puppy.

I’ve been really excited to read this since I saw the cover, because I loved the colors and the feel of it. Yes, yes, I know… One of these days I’ll learn. In all honesty, I thought each of the authors would get a short story and this would be more like a kinky anthology. But it’s actually just one story. And to my disappointment, it’s one of those cliffhanger type, to be continued, you have to read the next books to know who she is going to end up with, kind of book. I’m not a huge fan of that, although I can deal with it sometimes.

This started off great in the first few chapters but then it quickly turned into a bit of a mess for me because things were happening a bit fast and sort of completely unreal. Raine was taken in under Hammer’s protection and care when he found her on the streets after she ran away from home. She’s always idolized him and is 100% head over heels in love. He’s been trying to stay away from her because he wants her so much and he doesn’t think he would be any good to her. Yes, the good old “I’m too damaged because of all the bad shit that happened in my past that will just repeat itself with you” plot. Another thing I’m not a huge fan of.

But where things went sour for me in this story and what really threw my enjoyment of the book from where it should’ve been, was the fact that Hammer does something that puts him in asshole territory. For me, he never left that corner from that point on. So here I am rooting for guy B, his best friend Liam. Just as Dom but a caring and loving gentleman as well. The Irish accent helps also. Liam is left to pick up the pieces of poor Riane by the time Hammer is done stomping all over her heart and pride.

So needless to say when she struggles and goes back and forth, I was not so happy. I do think towards the end of the story, Hammer was starting to plant a seed of doubt about Liam in my mind. And I do trust that the authors will redeem him in the next story. But at least in this one, he wasn’t my favorite.

Now for the side characters, I am extremely interested to read more about Beck. First they talk about him like he’s the devil incarnate and such an uncaring sadist. Then he proves a softer side as the book goes along. Then he turns out to be a hot shot doctor. Now, tell me more about him. ;)

This was a bit of a different take on a bdsm club classic story. There’s a triangle instead of a menage, which I wasn’t expecting. Although I still have hopes for that to change. One thing is for sure. This was one hot story!

I'm proud of myself for finishing this book - it took me 3 days, multiple attempts to get in to the story, and hundreds of eye-rolls. I really wanted to like this, as it has everything that I like: multiple men, BDSM, and romance, unfortunately it fell flat.

First of all, although this is categorized as BDSM it reminded me of a teenage drama with a BDSM club instead of a high school. The BDSM aspect was rather unbelievable as the owner of Shadows Club, Macen "Hammer", doesn't exhibit ANY characteristics of a Dominant, he may crave control, but he doesn't seem to have any. Of course he's the "damaged" Dom who pushes the woman he loves away due to him not being "what she needs". He has absolutely NO redeeming qualities and I just found myself absolutely despising him.

Meanwhile, Raine is in love with Hammer. He "saved" her when she was at her lowest and showed her compassion and gave her a home. He "protects" her but won't take her as his sub, nor will he let any other have her.

Liam, Hammer's best friend, wants to push Hammer to Raine - as they both need and crave each other. He decides that he will train her (in an effort to get them together), which leads to drama between the friends.
The icing on the cake? Liam and Raine seem to fall instantly in love with each other (over the course of 3 days) And this just goes on until the end of the book.

I had no empathy for any of the characters, the BDSM wasn't really part of the story - until it was convenient, and the romance wasn't believable. The cliff-hanger ending wasn't enough to keep my interest, unfortunately, as I do enjoy all of these authors.

OOOOOOMG.

This FMC is one of the worst. The ONLY and I mean only somewhat good thing about her is she can cook. She’s childish, can’t make up her mind, doesn’t care who she hurts and does whatever to get her way. She a StRoNg wOmAn with bratty tendencies that will make everyone in the world facepalm. She’s a submissive and though she’s lived in a literal BDSM dungeon for YEARS, she has ZERO idea what being a sub means, I’m not in the community and I know more than she does. 😂

There’s no plausible reason for the two MMCs to fight over her let alone even like her. All three of them act like complete ding dongs just to further the plot.

Yikes, everything about this was cringe.

Buuut I’m giving it 1.5 stars. And I’m continuing because for whatever stupid reason, it’s MILDLY entertaining, but that is attributed to Christian Fox being the narrator. 🤤

No, gracias.

Wow was I surprised! I've had this on my kindle for awhile, and not even thinking about it. The only reason I picked it to read was because it fit perfectly into both of my Challenges. I thought I would just suffer thru it, but wow. There was passion, love, obsession, tenderness and the sex was hot! With one of the guys you are thinking WTF DUDE when the other seems perfect, but I'm looking for an upset. This book DID NOT END IN A CLIFFHANGER!! However the story does continue and I can't wait so of course I one-clicked book 2! Yes it was that good! I fell for Liam but I adored Hammer's longing & denying himself for Raine to keep her safe. I think that if I had truly known about this book and then read it I would have probably given it 4 stars. But surprising the hell out me when I was expecting a dud definately earns that another star!

This is the second book by this author and I can honestly say without a doubt that I can't stand her writing. But, it's a personal taste thing. Not a reflection of her ability to write. She can write...just not what fits my tastes.

Hammer...can't call him a Dom. He's a misogynistic ass. Uses women for his pleasure, intentionally hurts the woman who loves him over and over again. Liam...nosy ass. Mind your business. Get your shit together. Then try to help someone else. Raine...a little girl parading around as a woman. Grow up and you might get treated like an adult. Pick a maturity level and stick with it. Couldn't connect to the characters or the story.

Hmmm. Not sure what to think here. I always enjoy everything Shayla Black writes. Even co-writing with Lexi Blake has its moments. But these are two new (to me) authors in the co-writing partnership so I'm reserving judgement for a while (I believe this is the first in a trilogy).

Other reviewers have explained the story, so I won't. But we have here two (or three) Doms who have dark pasts; Hammer, whose wife died and he can't (won't?) forget her; Liam, a long-time friend also involved in Hammer's past; and Beck, a sadist with surprisingly clear insight to the Hammer/Liam relationship. And they all revolve around Raine, a bright young woman who is unsure where her future lies.

After spending the last six years living and working in Hammer's BDSM club, Raine thinks she is totally in love with Hammer; but he keeps her at arms length, even rebuffing her hesitant overtures, which is where the story begins. Hammer's attitude towards Raine is baffling: he is obsessed with her, wants her to be his possession, but won't admit that he has any feelings towards her; and his forceful rejection of her is bordering on cruel. Obviously, he doesn't want to repeat past mistakes (whatever they are), but his repellant attitude just throws Raine into a tailspin.

This is where Liam comes in: he recognises that Raine is searching for love and affection, as well as someone who can appreciate her budding submissive tendancies; and so he picks up the pieces of Hammer's actions, takes Raine under his (compassionate and caring) wing; and in the process, falls in love with her.

Beck plays a minor, but impressive, part in this three-way relationship; I presume we will learn more about him as the story unfolds.

The extremes of the Dominant actions shown by both Hammer and Liam are a little too much to be believable. There is no way a Dominant would act the way Hammer does; he gets angry, he rages, he drinks, and when he can't get his own way, he does the lot - all at once!

Liam plays the caring, considerate, compassionate Dom; but this gets questioned (by me) by his hate attitude and one-up-man-ship he has to Hammer. This too-good-to-be-true Dom is almost blown out of the water by ONE extremely angry moment; and I was left in a veritable quandry.

I'm not sure whether to like Raine or not; she is, at one moment, a young girl trying her best to be submissive; and the next moment, she is arguing her case loud and long (and sometimes not well thought through).

So, do we have a past-tormented hero who needs to learn how to love again? Or a dark hero masquerading as a kind, compassionate Dom? Or an indubitably split personality heroine who needs to grow up? Don't know; but I (perhaps stupidly) will find out!

If I had known I would sign up to read about a love triangle that's not even close to a three way relationship filled with drama and one scene with cheating I wouldn't even give a second thought to the series. The two men in the cover and the title of the series DOMS of her life made me believe that Raine, Liam and Hammer would find a way to work their menage relationship instead of having the two men fighting each other while they were best friends over Raine.

I don't understand how could anyone find acceptable that Raine had intercourse with Hammer after she had accepted Liam's collar and it wasn't something Liam wanted. I do not like any character from the trio so far. I don't feel like the secondary characters had enough time to make an impression on me and if I wasn't given the first three books in the series, I wouldn't even think about reading the second book. Even after the cliffhanger in the end and that means a lot to me because I never give up on a story unless I find out how it ends. This series and a couple of others could be the exception.

The BDSM part of the book didn't satisfy me. Even after reading the fourth book (yes I made it that far) I can't say that I was satisfied with what I got. It was too light for my taste. I can't believe how three authors who write about that style couldn't make this work out.

**I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.**

I debated hard on how to rate this one. My issue was this: It kept my interest enough to read in one sitting, but I didn't feel like I could connect with the characters. They seemed to lack the depth I needed to really get into the story. Raine, well lets just say Raine was not my favorite at all. Macen (a.k.a Hammer) was supposed to be the "Dom" in charge, he just came off as whiny with no alpha in him at all. The "If I can't have her no one can" attitude. Liam, I don't really have anything to say about him, negative or positive, he just was.

I think the story held tons of potential, it just seemed to fall flat for me. There was more drama than any real BDSM action. I don't think just because a flogger or paddle is mentioned does it mean that it should be labeled BDSM. It seemed like the authors really wanted it to go there but skate the specifics. Less soap opera-ish more BDSM scenes, making Macen more manly, more alpha, less whiny would have helped too.

This started out as 5 stars for me then slowly started dropping. It dropped a star mainly because there isnt much BDSM in it other than a few handcuffs and a few "Sirs" here and there. I also didnt like Raine at all. She pledges herself to a dom then in the same night cheats and screws another dom. I understand she is supposed to be scarred but I still cant stand her or the way she is so hopelessly devoted to Hammer no matter what. He is an ass. So it dropped another star for the cheating and because of Raine. Its only saving grace was Liam and the sex scenes which is sad because I think a book should be more than sex scenes but Liam isnt a flat character. It dropped its last star because its a cliffhanger. Normally I wouldnt hold that against a novel but because of all the other factors, I think we had a right to either a HEA or a crash and burn ending. I really do apologize to the authors for my review but its how I feel. I usually love Shayla Black's work. Thats why I gave this novel a chance despite the other poor review I saw.

So let me start off by saying that I am not a fan of third person POVs. But Holy hell, this book was so good. It had just the perfect amount of drama, heartache and sexiness with two strong dominant men and a sassy submissive. Even in third person this book held my attention from start to finish. I was glued to this book and could not put it down until the very last page.

I love Shayla Black. I’ve read her books before so I knew going in that I was in for a good time. Add two additional authors that I haven’t read from yet and WOW! The way this book was written, the flow of the story and the characters were just fantastic. Shayla Black, Jenna Jacobs and Isabella LaPearl did an amazing job bringing this story to life and capturing these characters journey with such raw passion. The characters will lure you in and have you emotionally invested throughout. The sex scenes are extremely hot and oh so steamy. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to read the next book.

Outstanding! The descriptive writing, the details of each character, the power of emotion! One Dom to Love explores the BDSM world and the effects it has on best friends and a protected young woman.

Can Hammer and Raine move beyond their damaged pasts? Will Liam help his friend out or will he steal away what's his for the taking?

This may be the first installment but I promise it's long and worthy of your time! The cliffhanger will have you screaming but don't worry...you can pick up The Young and the Submissive now!
