Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this book for free in exchange for my review! All opinions are my own.

This is a fun book to introduce young children to the many different types of birds. Even reading this book as an adult, I learned things about birds that I was not aware of before. I can imagine young children being utterly fascinated by this book!

Kids' Field Guide to Birds is catering to a budding bird enthusiast. However, I think any bird lover would enjoy the information provided.

I love the way the book is organzied by where the birds would most likely be seen - urban/city environments, garden feeders, lakes, desert climates, coast, woods, etc. This would serve as a handy reference for someone who would love to be able to identify and learn about the birds they encounter. As a bird lover myself, I wil refer to this as I am watching my bird baths and feeders.

There are also several fun activiities included in the book that children and their families can do together. I especially like that before the discussion of specific birds there is information provided about taking care of birds and conservation and the ways that grown-ups and kids can enjoy this together.

Overall, this is a great reference tool for young readers and beginner bird enthusisasts.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

A good introduction to birds for any age especially for young children who are getting curious about the birds they have in there own garden. The book is more practical if you live in America, birds you would commonly find in there gardens compared to like myself to what we get in the UK.

I did like the inclusion of where you would most likely encounter certain birds whether it would be in your own garden, in a city or a woodland area. There is always a bird you could see wherever you go. This is a book especially handy for a child who is getting into nature/ birdwatching and looking at the world that isn't through a screen. This is a book that you wouldn't want to leave home without.

Thank you Netgalley and Cool Springs Press for a copy of the book for an honest review. Sorry for late review.

Your kids will never want to go on a nature walk without this book!

Both beginner and experienced birders alike will love this reference book! From birding basics to how to use binoculars, this book is approachable from the very start.

I love birding, and I remember borrowing field guides from my teacher when I was in middle school so that I could identify birds in my backyard and neighborhood. This field guide is designed to be more kid-friendly than the classic field guides most of us grew up with. It may be more visually appealing to children, but it is still every bit informational and helpful! You'll be able to find birds from many categories, including:
- Urban birds
- Garden, Park, and Feeder Visitors
- Lake, River, and Marsh Birds
- Wetland and Coastal Birds
- Arid-climate Birds
- Birds in Fields, Plains, and Prairies
- Woodland Birds

Happy birding!

I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Experience the joy of birding this summer! As school lets out for the break, this guide, which covers most of North America’s birds, would make for special nature memories. For instance, wouldn’t it be cool to learn to feed hummingbirds? Or recycle a household object into a home for a Wren? Or make a container garden with goldenrod for the Juncos?

We currently have a crow that’s been spending its days hopping about our front lawn and cawing from the treetop, so my daughter was thrilled to flip through to find a full crow profile complete with a photograph, fun facts, and clear, engaging information. Did you know crows hang around parents’ nests for years so that they can help raise their siblings? Or that they can recognize human faces? You better believe we have been greeting our crow friend kindly each day!

This book is very well organized, and no matter where you find yourself—in the city, in a field, a forest or at the wetlands—there will be birds to spot, things to learn about them, and activities to do. This book is the perfect family guide, and I know we will be packing it along on our nature adventures!

I really appreciated how this book includes a land acknowledgement that notes that “when you pause to admire the birds of this continent, remember that there are many histories and ways of knowing these animals” and that there are there are many ways of knowing nature that came long before European classification systems. What an important reminder.

Thank you to Quarto Kids for gifting this book to my family and to author Daisy Yuhas for using her expertise to make a book that will inspire a generation of budding birders!

* Thank you Netgalley and Cool Springs Press for approving an eARC of this book *

Firstly, this field guide is not only for a young audience, but also for any adult beginner who wants to start birdwatching. In addition, the guide is not suitable for too young an audience. If that's the case, an adult will need to guide them through the use of the guide.
The guide is very accurate, clear, to the point and well structured. Each bird is divided into habitats (e.g. urban, open, forest, desert, freshwater, coastal). For each bird species, there is the common name in English, the species name (in Latin), some information about its appearance, size, diet, voice, conservation status and some trivia about its lifestyle. The pictures are very nice and of good quality. In between, you'll find some information about their evolution, some fun facts or some fun, innocent experiments to do. The species listed are mostly found in North America, but some of them are also found on other continents, such as some crows and owls. The only thing I cannot judge is whether the listed species are also the most common (that is, easier to spot) species in N.A. I appreciate that some references are given at the end.
Overall, I think this guide is suitable for any beginner birdwatcher of any age and for parents who want to do a fun and educational outdoor activity with their children.

Excellent children's book about birding and guidance on ways to identify the various bird species. There are short but sweet sections about the individual birds but also those of similar species are given some notice. There is some advice offered such as being patient to spot the birds and also suggested activities a young birder could try, to enrich their bird-watching experiences.

Included color photographs of many birds enhance this educational reading exposure. The book is arranged to the different types of birds one would encounter in a wide range of landscape, for example, desert, wetlands, city, forests and more. A glossary furthers the learning for related bird-watching terms such as: camouflage, nocturnal and raptors among others.

All in all, I find this to be a fairly comprehensive read for a young reader to discover and/or along with his or her parent or guardian.

A 5-Star rating from me.

Daisy Yuhas's Kids' Field Guide to Birds provides an excellent introduction to North American birds and birding. Divided by habitat—for example, urban settings, deserts, and woodlands—the book offers a photograph and other identifying information about common species, including conservation status (THANK YOU!). It also includes fun facts, occasional notes about ecology and conservation, and suggestions for bird-related activities, all of which is interesting and applicable. Used in conjunction with other resources, specifically those that provide more extensive photos of each species at different life stages, this field guide will enhance the birding adventures of kids and adults alike. It will be especially helpful for families (remember to pack it while traveling!), nature educators in conventional- and home-school communities, and naturalists working with mixed-age groups.

I was excited to read Kid’s Field Guide to Birds by Daisy Yuhas for it has a lot to offer a beginning birder. What makes the book a little different from other field guides is the way the birds are organized. Birds are divided into 7 different categories according to the habitat they live in. As a city resident, I was pleased to see Chapter 1 being “Urban Birds-City Sights”. The book includes beautiful photos, descriptions, and a fun informational section on each bird. It opens with some bird watching basics for the beginner. Even though it is written for children, birdwatchers of all ages will enjoy this book!

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

The first thing we did was head outside to look at all the birds so that we could search in the book for the ones we found. I have a few bird feeders in the yard so my little guy enjoyed identifying each bird we saw in the book. We tried some of the activities and will definitely try more of them.

This book is very detailed about each bird it covers, including their appearance, size, voice, conservation status, location, and diet. It includes several activities and fun facts. This is the perfect guide for getting young ones into birdwatching

I love this book and all the information within. The pictures are close up and give a clear description of the birds. There is information listed without being overwhelming. The activities are simple to do. Many of the birds are right in our backyard! This is also a great book to travel with outside of our area. I am just as excited about this book as much as my children!

This is a very informative and comprehensive guide to birdwatching. As it is very informative, it might be more suitable for teenagers than kids. I am a bird lover, so this one is just perfect for me. I have to say though that I am a bit sad to see that my favourite bird, blue tits, is not featured in the book.
