Crack Shot: Western Erotica

Rate this book
Men of the Wild West indulge in far more than drinking and gunplay. Cattle drovers, gamblers, miners, outlaws, and the lawmen who chase them rub up against each other in towns where law is thin and a saloon occupies every corner. How could they not indulge in sex? This collection of Western erotica brings to life the intensely masculine Old West in stories such as “Brazen,” in which a man indulging in sexual gratification beside his campfire welcomes a stranger to further indulge; “Thyself A Man,” in which a preacher attempting to save souls in a gold rush camp loses his own through sexual indulgence; “Gandy Dancer,” which shows building the transcontinental railroad involves more than laying track; “Crack Shot,” in which a lawman cannot resist his prisoner; and “Picture Show,” in which the past comes alive as two former lawmen who were once lovers reunite on a silent movie set.

Dale Chase has been writing gay erotica for years, going back to the now defunct Freshmen and Men Magazines. She’s always been a name to watch and for my money is the best woman writing gay erotica – ever. Crack Shot is a fantastic collection of 5 western themed stories. This is not the pretty world of M/M romance favoured by most female writers, Dale’s characters are as tough as the terrain they inhabit and they do it hard – so hard it’s difficult to sit on that saddle afterwards.

My personal favourite of the set is the middle story Gandy Dancer, an unconventional love story about a group of workers manually laying tracks in the early days of the railway lines. But that’s just a personal choice – there isn’t a bad story here. The longer than usual length of these tales allows for great character and story development than most erotica but never at the expense of sex: the driving force of all these men.

As a woman writing gay erotica Dale Chase is peerless. Forget about those wishy washy bromances clogging up Amazon’s gay genre chart and buy this – the real deal. I loved this book.

When it comes to writing gay western erotica and Dale Chase the expression "she ain't no daisy, she ain't no daisy at all" doesn't apply. In her hands, the American West comes alive as she mixes fine details and gritty characters with raw and downright dirty erotica. Crack Shot is one of Chase's latest releases (she has released a few new books lately), and in this collection I enjoyed all five stories: Brazen, Thyself a Man, Gandy Dancer, Crack Shot, and Picture Show. Favorites: "Gandy Dancer," and "Crack Shot."

Took My Breath Away

Every story save one in this anthology grabbed me from the start with the deeply realistic settings, characters, and over-the-top and quite salacious sex. Mostly set in the Old West, these stories are filled with loneliness, companionship, insatiable carnality, and most of all, in the end, cruel reality.

Dale Chase repeats his modus operandus in four of these stories when it comes to male-to-male pursuit, seduction, rapture and pure degradation at times, but I did not find it repetitive, just thrilling.
