Episode 9:
Vanora has suffered yet another loss. The darkness that haunts her premonition dreams draws ever nearer, but she is unwilling to let it consume her without a fight. As she seeks to uncover the truth about the mysterious albino vampire and her purpose in his schemes, she must rely on herself and those she trusts most to stand against the coming purge.

Serial Synopsis:

In Darkness We Must Abide is the epic saga of one young woman caught in the dangerous world of the creatures of the night.

Already living in the shadows due to her albinism, Vanora is just a little girl when her older brother inadvertently unleashes a terrible evil from the family crypt that changes their lives forever.

As she grows up in a world where beautiful deadly beings hunt by night, one captures her eye and her heart. Yet, can she trust the mysterious Armando? For there is a powerful entity plotting to claim her when she reaches adulthood in order to fulfill an ancient prophecy, and her enemy has enveloped her in a web of deceit, casting doubt on all she believes to be true. Soon, she will have to fight not only to save those she loves, but also for her very soul.

Rhiannon Frater delivers a chilling adventure once again with this multi-part epic serial with a dynamic cast, old school vampires, bloody action, a smoldering forbidden love, and a terrifying villain set against the backdrop of a modern day vampire war.

Episode 9 of the In Darkness We Must Abide serial was taut with emotion and gave us revelations about Vanora's fate.

If you've read the prior episodes you know that Vanora has experienced great loss in the past year. It doesn't appear that things are going to get any easier for her. Since I don't want to give anything away, I'll just share a few of my favorite quotes with you:

"Honey, demons were never angels. We didn't fall. We've always been demons."

"I think you should lay down for a little bit," he said at last. "You look far too pale"......."I AM albino."

"My brother and sister have been obsessed with our ages and that you're a vampire, but I just can't care about those things. Not anymore. I wasted too much time in Austin away from a brother who loved me and now he's gone. I may lose my sister before all of this is over. I may lose you. I might lose my own life. No more regrets. No more running away. Okay?"

I loved the addition of an Incubus and the mythology of the Seven Sisters and The Fates. The next episode cannot come soon enough.

5/5 stars. I recommend this for everyone who enjoys dark stories including vampires and other creatures. The serial format makes the story even more interesting. Check it out!!

Well, it started out a little slow. The story took things up a notch right towards the end though! Whew! My heart is still pounding!
And for the record? Armando is mine! Hands off, ladies!

Rhiannon Frater is the Grand Kung-Fu Master of the cliffhanger ending. Boy did she put those skills to use in The Purge; reading along then blamo into a brick wall of an ending. The anticipation for episode 10 is slowly killing me even if it is the season finale. I can only expect it to be a heart-wrenching tearjerker of a finale. When I started this series, I loved it, but now my love for this series is beginning to border on obsession and the wait in between episodes is becoming more unbearable with each installment.

In The Purge, impending doom is abound, and Vanora is in danger, as is the entirety of Roman’s vampire family. With Aeron getting ready to purge everyone and complete the prophecy predicted so long ago with Vanora as his queen. Meanwhile Armando tries to protect Vanora and together they are determined to fight their predicted fate. This is a recipe for disaster and I can only expect to find out the final product in the final episode of season 2.

Rhiannon Frater has created an amazing story that keeps readers enthralled and with the short length of each episode easy for busy readers such as myself to fit them in whenever possible. The best part even with the short length each episode is powerful and emotional, something that is not easy to accomplish, but Rhiannon Frater manages it every single time. If you have not picked up any of this serial, I highly suggest grabbing the first episode which is FREE!

If you have not read the first season or previous episodes of In Darkness We Must Abide then this review may contain spoilers.

Rhiannon has done it again, get ready for the purge because Frater has set the bar and things are revving up for the oncoming storm.

Poor Vanora! She’s lost yet another person and she has still yet to face the true looming threat behind all of her misfortune. It seems every time she gains a little bit of ground personally something huge comes barreling along and reminds her just how dark her life can get.

The good news is we get more Armando…both the swoon-worthy variety and secret keeping tense kind. I can’t help but wonder when all of the secret keeping is going to backfire. I know Vanora is pretty level headed and doesn’t jump to conclusions, but I can see how things might go downhill really quickly as the tension begins to mount. One of the best things about this episode is that we finally get to see the true extent of Roman’s power in the vampire community, he was clearly not some small town leader. It’s very clear that everyone has their own agenda and I’m looking forward to seeing all of those agenda’s clash soon.

I’m so antsy now that this episode is over! I need to know what happens next because Rhiannon is the queen of the cliffhanger!

Wow. This ninth installment of IDWMA kicks up the emotional melodrama quite a few notches. Emeril would be impressed. With the death of Roman and the world collapsing around her, Vanora and Roman decide that life is short and to seek their pleasure while they can. There are continuing introductions of new characters - Leto the ancient She-Wolf, more background on the Seven Sisters, an incubus named Greg Brady. Fur and fangs are teeth fly in this one. Awesome good stuff!

Aeron is mostly behind the scenes again during the The Purge. I thought we might be seeing more of him in this installment, so of course Frater skillfully yanked the plot in a somewhat less expected direction. I’m interested to see what role some of the new faces have to play, if anything more than what they delivered in episode nine. We find out more about Armando and Vanora, and for a brief moment, things are almost in high spirits between the two. Episode nine ends on a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait for the release of episode ten!
