I would like to thank Goodreads first-reads and Clark Graham for my copy of Emily and the Shadow King in exchange for an honest review.
Our young Heroine,Emily,is left abandoned when her parents are taken by the Shadow Kings army and her house is burnt to the ground. Even though she is very scared she is determined to find her parents and set them free. On her quest she shows how brave she is and remembers things her parents have taught her.Does Emily defeat the Shadow King? Is she reunited with her parents? Well you will just have to buy the book to find out. This is a well written childrens book and I think would be suitable for parents to read to children from 5 years and older children to read by themselves. Lots of area for discussion here, like feeling scared , being brave, believing in yourself. The ending is very good. I think both parent and child would like this.
Disclaimer. I had requested and received audible version of this book for free from the author, in exchange for an unbiased review.
What I liked about the book - This is a good book to read to the young ones in the family. The story is easy to grasp and potentially has great appeal for them. Pacing is good and it never gets boring. At the end, it has a happy ending and leaves you satisfied.
What I disliked about the book - As an adult, even if you like fantasy stories, you wouldn't find anything extra ordinary in this one for yourself. But it is great if you want to read it to a younger audience.
Narration - Narration is well done by Daniel Nicolai. There's some audio quality issue, but not too much.
I enjoyed listening to the talented Daniel Nicolai narrate this youthful adventure. As noted in another review, audio quality isn’t excellent, but it is above average.
This was a gentle adventure story most youth would enjoy. Vocabulary and pace was consistent for the implied age group.
