I must admit from the beginning that I like Willow Rose as an author. I think she has a clear idea of story and what it takes to build a good one. Her grasp of characterization is also on-point. Her ability to construct unlikable characters – in particular -- is a strength. Nibble Nibble, Crunch is a novella length story that is built around a poem from Denmark, about a snowman. No spoilers, so I will be careful with the plot. Emma’s mom is having a get-together with her college friends and Emma is an unhappy kid. Her mother is constantly harping on her weight and sometimes appears too busy to be bothered. It begins to snow, and Emma’s mom allows Emma to go out for a little while, but somehow Emma’s annoyance is made manifest in a snowman and anyone attuned to horror stories can predict what happens next. This is a quick-paced story and narrow in scope. Usually something I like, is that it has a grade B horror movie feel. The characters are almost all unlikable and the reader wants them all to get it, but the characterization lacks depth and really feels too small. I wanted more and feel that it could really be translated into a novel with a bigger scope and just a little bit of exposition as to how this phenomenon occurred. I usually prefer my stories with minimal exposition, but here there is practically none which is a problem for me. Sorry, Ms. Rose, it was just an OK read for me.

I have never read this author before. This was ok as a short story but I have severe doubts as to whether I would like a full novel by the author. I know it is supposed to be a horror story but as I read it, I couldn't help seeing a low budget B movie playing. THAT actually had me laughing at the more "action" parts and I had fun with that. I know short stories have to make their impact quickly but I have to say that I truly hated the adult characters of this book. I don't think so much negativity was necessary. When you take characters you hate and add the element of horror then you feel they got what they deserved. This story would have had more of an impact had I been able to feel compassion for any of the characters other than the child. I am seeing pretty much the same thing in Eenie, Meenie and this formula just isn't working for me. I enjoy books that get into the characters and elicit emotion from me. If I really love a book I often think "How could that emotion be translated into video?" If the book is all action and no depth and can easily be converted to images then it probably isn't going to hold my attention. So far I haven't been overly impressed with either story but they are short stories and enjoyable as that since I haven't had to waste a lot of time reading them. I may try an actual novel if it shows up on one of my feeds free but I don't think I would waste money on it. I am sure the author has a huge fan base unfortunately I am not part of it.

Nibble Nibble Crunch shares a glimpse of humanity with characters you will love to hate, yet empathize with when the truth comes out, as they pay their ‘respects’ to the snowman…who will make you think twice about building one of those balls of white stacked on top of each other, with the sticks for arms (all the better to grab you with), the mouth…well, you’ll have to read it to find out what it does with that.

Nibble, Nibble, Crunch by Willow Rose is a frightening horror story. I gave it five stars.

Agnete held a yearly lunch for her friends who had attended boarding school. She was cleaning the house & frustrated. The teachers were on strike & her daughter was home from school. She was also disturbed by her daughter Emma's recent weight gain & her pleading for chocolate milk too early to have it. Her daughter's chubbiness made her feel inept & not a 'perfect' mother. She wanted to hide her from her girlfriends.

It started snowing & Agnete was disappointed because she would be unable to show off the garden to her friends. Emma was thrilled because she like playing in the snow.

"Emma knew she probably never would understand why her school was closed, but it left her sad since she loved going to school. Not so much because she loved the school, but she loved being away from her mother all day. She enjoyed not having to listen to the small hints & constant comments about her size & weight & not seeing the disapproving look in her mother's eyes every time she ate something. Even if the other kids in school from time to time mocked her for her size, she still preferred that over her mother. Their disapproval wasn't as bad as her mother's. It didn't hurt as much."

Emma discovered a small, chubby snowman & sang & danced around it. Later she discovered the snowman wasn't what it seemed to be.

Emma's mother came running through the snow after she discovered Emma was not in her room. Her maternal instincts were awakened at last & she feared losing her daughter.

I received a complimentary copy from Amazon but that did not change my opinion for this review.

Short story featuring the town Karrebaeksminde, which appears in the author's Rebekka Franck series.

Omg! This was more than just a little creepy .... definitely something nightmares are made of and ensures you'll never look at Frosty the Snowman the same way again. Poor Emma's mother is vying for Worst Abusive Mother Of The Year Award and I'm only peeved she didn't get her comeuppance. Highly recommended.

A great shirt shirt. Who would ever think that an evil spirit could take over one of a child’s greatest winter joys.

I didn't realize this was a short story at first so when it jumped straight in I wondered where the plot was going. I gave it 3 starts mostly because the story was so unbelievable but I very much enjoyed the writing so I've purchased a longer book to see how the author creates a plot. I'll let you know when it's finished!!

This was a fast fun story. A little girl making snow angels comes across a cute little snowman. But soon, he’s not so cute anymore.

Leave it to Willow to put a fun, nasty little spin on such an innocent thing as a cute snowman. As the warning says: you’ll never look at a snowman the same way again.

And even though I quickly figured out where this story was going, it was still fun getting there.

All Agnete wanted to do was host the perfect meeting for her former school friends. She felt a need to showcase her perfect life. Being a CEO of her own firm took care of the business side of things. Of course, she had to give the house a thorough cleaning before they arrived. Too bad the cleaning lady was off. A part of that cleaning meant she would have to hide her overweight daughter by banishing her to her room. The absent cheating husband was not a problem.

In Nibble, Nibble, Crunch by Willow Rose the reader meets control freak Agnete. Everything had to be perfect, and it could be because Agnete would make it so. That included a healthy, slim physical appearance. Agnete had not had lunch in years. The same could not be said for her daughter, Emma. It seemed Emma was always eating or asking to eat.

When Emma asked to go outside before Agnete’s friends arrived, Agnete reluctantly lets her out to play in the snow but warned her not to go beyond the hedge. Emma promised but found that all the good snow was on the other side of the hedge. There was a snowman there as well. When Emma went to tell her mother about her exciting discovery, one of her mom’s friends, Irene had arrived with a small dog. Could Emma take Herbie the dog out to play? Sure. Emma introduced Herbie to the snowman. The snowman ate Herbie. Emma was confined to her room.

Michael and Liv were walking with their new baby Johnathan. Michael denied the baby was his. As they argued, they passed close by the snowman. Liv thought the snowman was cute. Emma watched from her window as the snowman ate Liv. Michael grabbed the baby and went to the police station.

Officer Johansen didn’t believe Michael but was interested in what might have happened to Liv. He accompanied Michael to place where the snowman was but now there was a snowman, a snowwoman, and a snowdog. As he inspected the snow creatures more closely, the snowman consumed the policeman.

Irene arrived to look for her dog. The snowdog ate her hand and was in the process of eating all of her when Michal shot the snowman, but with little effect. Emma’s mom heard the shots and came to rescue her daughter. She also got too close to the snowman, a structure which began to consume Agnete. Luckily Emma’s dad, Agnete’s husband arrived with a blowtorch. Attacking the three snow creatures, Thomas saved the day, Agnete, and Emma. The dog, Irene, Officer Johansen, and Liv continued to be dead.

So, the story is over, right? Nope, there is more. Read the short story if you would like to know the improbable ending. This is a Willow Rose short story published primarily to introduce other Willow Rose books. The story ends at location 807 of a story with 1354 locations. After the short story ends, this is an advertisement. I find it annoying and will be sure to not download this type of promotion from this author again. I do not recommend this short story, but I do recommend Kindle Unlimited to read this type of story. If I had paid for this, I would have returned it for a refund. With KU, it was just an annoying item in my reading queue that I could erase.

Emma lives in a mansion on the coast between the ocean and a forest. It’s snowing out and she makes a friend, a little chubby snowman. But she soon finds out that little chubby snowman isn't so friendly and is hiding a deep dark secret. Before long she is witness to the little chubby snowman’s horrors as it eats any living thing it gets near and isn't watching it. So don’t get too close and whatever you do, don’t look away!

I really liked this little short novel. It isn't overly gruesome but you get enough of an idea about what is going on if you've seen things like Fargo that might pop into mind.

Unexpected storyline...

Looking at the title, I would have never guessed what this was about. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. Emma must have been totally traumatized by the incidents she had witnessed. Her mother, I wanted to just sock her one. She was so self-centered and concerned about what her friends would think. Mommy dearest was in for a rude awakening when she seen what had happened. Good read!

This book was crazy! First, let me say my heart went out to Emma. Her mother Agnete, I did not like. She was abusive and her thoughts concerning her child were horrible. She was self centered and more concerned about the opinions of others until something tragic made her realize what was more important. With that being said, I will NEVER look at a snowman the same again and if there is any silver in the snow, I am GONE, lol!

Mildly amusing short story

I thought this would be a collection of short stories, but it's really just one. Thought I'd read a few scary or horror stories in honor of Halloween month and all. This is one story about a scary snowman - but more silly than really scary. Moderately entertaining but not what I'd expected from a Danish or Scandinavian horror genre. Read it in a few minutes.

I really liked the creepiness of this book and I knew it was a very short read....but.....I enjoyed it right up until the ending. The ending just ended with no explanations or anything. I was very disappointed. I guess short stories are not my thing now?? Creepiness rated it a three star, as for the story....sorry but only a one star. Happy Reading :)

Snowmen, Snowwoman, and Snowdog

CUTE little novella about Emma and her crazy snowpeople. I love Ms. Rose's books and this was a fun little diversion from her regular books. Five stars for the originality, plot, and terrific editing. If you want a nice and easy read this one's for you.

Very good short story

Loved the ending when Emma's dad showed up. I could see how this could have gone on to being a full story but I like short scary stories as well. The very end after was a complete surprise. Enjoyed the writing very much.

Horrid

I would give it a big fat ZERO but you have to give it something. This was a waste of my time I'll never get back. You're writing is just not my cup of tea. I found it to be stupid. Not scary not anything.

This is a Good Book

Well, the introduction did say you would never think of a snowman the same. And guess what?. They were right! I could have kept on reading this book because it is that good. And I'm never going to turn my back on a snowman.

I thought this was an eerie tale that kept me reading as this snowman caused problems for those that came in contact with him. While there were some gruesome scenes, there were a couple that made me chuckle. Good short.

Snow

Nice short horror story. Not to be read to children. Snow is one of children's favorite things. Building snowmen right up there. So this story can make a child afraid of the snow.
