Seven Summer Weekends by Jane L. Rosen is a new contemporary romance novel. While Seven Summer Weekends is not listed as a series book this one really is a continuation of the author’s last novel, On Fire Island. One of the central characters here is returning from the last book with some other secondary characters making appearances too. However, that being said Seven Summer Weekends really could be read as a standalone but of course since some characters have appeared before you do get a deeper connection to them by reading both books in order.
Addison Irwin has found herself suddenly without a job after working the last ten years in advertising. Without a clue what is coming next Addison also receives notice that her long lost aunt she barely knew has died and left her estate to Addison. Addison is sure she’ll probably need to sell the property on Fire Island but due to her aunt leaving stipulations for Addison inheriting she decides to spend the summer on the island before making that decision. After arriving on the island Addison begins to enjoy the close knit community around her with the one exception of her infuriating neighbor, Ben.
Well Seven Summer Weekends is the second book I’ve read by Jane L. Rosen having read On Fire Island before picking this one up and boy do both books feel completely different but somehow the same. Yes, we are returning to the charming small island with it’s eccentric characters but this time around there isn’t a supernatural narrator like there was in the first book, and I kind of missed her. However, this book did concentrate more on just a straight forward contemporary romance without a lot of extra the first book had so in a way I did enjoy this one more overall getting to know these two characters and becoming invested in them more. When finished with this second novel by this author I definitely find myself intrigued enough to read more from her in the future.

4.5⭐️ Sometimes you want a light and fluffy beach read, and sometimes you want more. The beauty of this book is that it gives you the best of both worlds. There are a few classic romcom moments, but beyond that, there are heavier themes like grief and loss of identity. And with fun characters who add all the local color, it’s impossible not to be immersed in both the setting and this wonderful story.
🎧I loved this on audio, helmed by Emily Norman. While I don’t always love books that aren’t first person POV, the combination of Rosen’s writing and Norman’s narration allowed me to connect with there characters as if each of as telling their own story.
Read if you like:
• more emotional romcoms
• quirky characters
• small town vibes
• Fire Island setting
• third person narration

(4.75 stars) This book has me longing to visit Fire Island (New York)! Addison Irwin, who is at a crossroads in her life, unexpectedly inherits her aunt’s Fire Island home. She spends the summer coming to terms with what her future may hold, after having been fired from what she thought of as her dream job, after a Zoom misstep. (So relatable!) The house happens to be next-door to a handsome young widower’s house. Gradually Addison rekindles her love of sculpting in her aunt’s studio.
You can tell that Jane L. Rosen really knows - and loves - Fire Island. This Long Island beach community, only reachable by ferry, has long been a favorite of New Yorkers of all kinds. Houses are often passed down from one generation to the next. (In this case, it is handed down from aunt to niece!) I loved the author’s comparison of Fire Island and The Hamptons - paraphrasing here: On Fire Island summer is a noun; in The Hamptons it’s a verb, as in - People spend the summer on Fire Island. People summer in The Hamptons!
There is wonderful Jewish representation in this book (and in On Fire Island). Addison’s friends and her Fire Island neighbors are terrific characters. Kizzy was my favorite. I thought it was so sad that Addison’s parents were estranged from Aunt Gicky (Gloria) and that she had to come to Fire Island to learn more about her. I’m sure they would have been incredibly close. If Only! This aspect of the book affected me personally, as my family has had a sad estrangement as well.
Seven Summer Weekends is a sequel to Rosen’s equally delightful book, On Fire Island, but it’s not strictly necessary to read that one first. Some of the major characters in this one also appear in On Fire Island (including Ben, the widower), but the story works fine as a standalone.

This story starts with a creative way to get fired which sets up this great read. The second in a series about Fire
Island, this is a stand-alone read, but it sounds like the first book was a delight too.
Seven Summer Weekends is loaded with unique personalities and pets that become a part of the fabric of the town. Addison is the outsider and we get to experience all of her emotions and discoveries as she learns more and more about her estranged aunt and family.
Rich with gal pals to support her, strangers who know more about her aunt than she does, and different people showing up weekly, this story offers a wonderful vibe and pace. Getting to know each character is fun but we also get a few roller coaster rides too. Ben is a complex character but a great balance for Addison too!
With a budding romance as well as plenty of emotions to get through, the author treats us to the delights of the town and every reason Addison should never sell. My heart was in my throat a few times over that decision!
Seven Summer Weekends will make you crave the beach and a sweet addicting summer fling.

Jane L Rosen is a new author to me and I’m in love with her writing! Not only is this book fantastic, I get read all her others!
Addison, a thirty something woman is poised to be promoted to art director at a high profile marketing agency in NYC, until she makes a flippant remark in a zoom meeting.
She gets fired from her job that has been her life for the past ten years! She also finds out that an estranged aunt has died and left Addison her house on Fire Island.
None of those are spoilers, it all happens in chapter one (or two)!
From this point on we’re with Addison and her interesting neighbors and visitors. The house includes an art studio and a guesthouse her aunt rents out, especially in the summer.
The cast of characters that arrive each of the seven weekends help her to understand her aunt more. She hadn’t seen her aunt since she was a child but remembered her fondly. Her parents had a falling out with this aunt that Addison never understood.
I’m not doing justice to this book so you’ll have to trust me and read yourself beginning June 4th.

Seven Summer Weekends by @janelrosen has more depth than the cute cover suggests but is an all-around fantastic summer read. I think the author did an amazing job when it came to balancing the emotional tones with some fun and witty ones too which for me was a major plus because I’m not into super emotional novels these days. So, I was very appreciative that realistic themes were thrown in. We can’t forget the amazing beach setting either. It’s almost summer so being transported to this gorgeous location put a big smile on my face.
If you haven’t read the author’s previous release ON FIRE ISLAND (you should though!) you can still read this one as a standalone. If you HAVE read it, you’ll realize that characters from that book make appearances in this one too!

What a delightful summer romance set on the coastal shores of Fire Island!! A first time author I will definitely read more from. On Fire Island is on the list. ❥ — 4.5 stars.

Addison’s journey had some ups and downs. The first down was losing her job in a public way, but that was also an up, IMO. It forced her to take stock of her life and re-evaluate her career and life path. Inheriting her aunt’s cottage on Fire Island was a definite up, and I thought the decision to sell or keep was a no-brainer despite Addison’s indecision in that regard.
There were a lot of fun secondary characters, like Kizzy, one of Addison’s best friends who gets a shock and has a reset of her own. Also, Shep, Addison’s older neighbor and Sally, the sweetheart of a dog! And of course, there was Addison’s gorgeous neighbor, Ben. He’s alternately sweet one minute and surly the next. They had some push and pull. Ben had a sad back story.
Seven Summer Weekends was a delightful cross between romance and women’s fiction. With a vivid backdrop that made me nostalgic for a beachy summer vacation!

Seven Summer Weekends was my first book by Jane L. Rosen and definitely not my last. I’ve On Fire Island on my list to read for a while, but I read this one first in preparation for a pre-pub book club chat with the author. I didn’t realize the two books were connected! You can definitely read this one as a stand-alone though.
I really loved this book – the Jewish rep, the Sex and the City references, Addison’s friends, the art descriptions, and especially the Fire Island setting and community. Having been to Fire Island about six years ago to stay with my husband’s relatives, I felt like I could easily picture it.
After Addison inherits a Fire Island house from her estranged aunt, she spends the summer there to decide whether she wants to keep or sell the property. Over the course of seven weekends, she hosts various visitors to the island, and gets to know her neighbours – one in particular – who help her connect with her aunt and figure out her path forward. It’s a story of how much can change over the course of a summer and how relationships with both new and familiar people can impact your life in various ways.
It was kind of a miscommunication trop between Addison and Ben. As you all know, I normally don’t love miscommunication in a novel, but this was done so well and so much better that I didn’t mind it.
I was so sad for Addison, having to learn about her fabulous aunt from others, following a falling out between her aunt and her father. Jane Rosen kept me in suspense throughout much of the book waiting to find out what they fought about and I can honestly say, I was truly surprised. I loved that Addison was able to connect with her aunt through their passion for art, and through that, Addison is able to find important pieces of herself she thought she had let go.
I need to mention how much I love the cover. After you read the book, you realize its significance even more so. The publishers really knocked this one out of the park (IYKYK about baseball in this book).

I sooo loved getting to see Ben find his HEA following the sudden death of his wife. This follow up to On Fire Island was so fun. I loved the different guests that came to stay with Addison as she recently inherited her estranged aunt's beach house on Fire Island. Full of female friendship, second chances, romance and summer fun, this is a perfect beach read and great on audio narrated by Emily Norman. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

When I picked this book up, I had no idea that some of my favorite characters from On Fire Island were going to be such a large part of this novel! When Addison messes up big time the day she's supposed to be receiving a promotion and ends up getting fired she's not sure what comes next. But then out of nowhere, her estranged aunt dies, leaving her, her house on Fire Island, and a summer of weekends filled with friends. As Addison tries to figure out if she's going to sell the house or keep it she builds relationships with the guests that come each weekend. She also begins to develop some SERIOUS chemistry with the widow next-door. Between the setting of Fire Island and the lovable characters, this book was a perfect summer escape on a cold winter day!

First things first, this cover is gorgeous and has me immediately wanting to read it. It starts of insanely familiar to a book I’ve already read so I was hesitant but decided to push on. I liked the premise of these booked weekends and their guests impacting our main character. But as the story went on there felt to be too much going on which was taking away from our main characters story, at least that’s how it felt to me. And the romance… it just didn’t work for me. The pacing was really off especially with everything else going on. They went from being so rude and assuming wrongly about each other (which drove me bonkers) to basically in love and it just didn’t work for me the way it needed to. Bear in mind all of this goes on within a pretty short book. I liked the writing, I liked the premise, and at times I really liked the story but overall it just wasn’t my fav.

✎… Reading Seven Summer Weekends kinda felt like I was watching an episode of Sex and the City, but not as good. It’s a cute, cheesy, summer rom com that I chose because I’m a sucker for a book that takes place on Fire Island/Long Island. I could’ve done without the not just one, but TWO miscommunications in this book. The worst trope. One is bad enough.

✎… Reading Seven Summer Weekends kinda felt like I was watching an episode of Sex and the City, but not as good. It’s a cute, cheesy, summer rom com that I chose because I’m a sucker for a book that takes place on Fire Island/Long Island. I could’ve done without the not just one, but TWO miscommunications in this book. The worst trope. One is bad enough.

I got up at 3am to finish this one!!
This was so much more than a beach read. There are several rom com moments but there were some heavier themes explored (grief, trying to find yourself). The characters were loveable and quirky, the storyline was so immersive, and the setting is one of my all time fave's. I loved the character of Addison. She is at a crossroads in life when she unexpectedly inherits her aunt's Fire Island home. After getting fired for a Zoom mishap she spends her summer in the house coming to terms with what she wants her future to look like.
Seven Summer Weekends is a sequel to Rosen's book, On Fire Island (but can be read as a standalone) . I absolutely adored this book and all of Rosen's previous books. Her writing is delightful, filled with hope and a great time!

Addison doesn’t remember much of her Aunt, but somehow she’s become the recipient of her house on Fire Island. Along with the meddling neighbors, scheduled guests each weekend, and many possessions her aunt has accumulated. To stay or to sell, is the question.
I read this in one sitting, and would definitely recommend the read!!

Oh my god this freaking book!! I had no idea going in that it was connected to On Fire Island and it made it so much more special when I figured it out. The audio was perfection, I was there the whole time. Emily Norman did such a fantastic job bringing Addison to life.
I loved the nature of the story, the pacing. I loved how someone new came each weekend. There was a fantastic balance of light-hearted moments and themes of grief, friendship and family. There was such great Jewish rep, I loved being back on Fire Island and with the full cast of characters. I loved how Addison rediscovered herself and her art. Ben, sweet Ben, I was so happy to see him again and in a different phase of his life.

This was pretty good, not my idea of a romantic comedy, and based on the list (not featured in this review) Jane and I have different expectations for romantic comedies. I got through this entire book thinking it was a contemporary romance (like it was labeled) bordering women's fiction, I didn't know it was supposed to be comedy until the author's note, Behind the Book. Whatever it is I enjoyed it and plan on reading more in the future.
Recommend to others: Yes. This is certainly one you don't want to miss giving a try.

After getting fired from her job, Addison inherits a house on Fire Island from her deceased aunt and she decides to go there while figuring out her next steps. While she decides her career path, she also has to decide whether to sell this house or keep it. She hasn't seen her aunt since she was a child and she feels as though she's getting to know her while sorting through her things in the house.
I enjoyed this book! It had a good balance of being a light romance, which is perfect for summer, but also had some more emotions and depth sprinkled in. I must admit that this book was a little on the corny side for me, I still liked it but my eyeballs definitely did go "okayyyyy" a few times. I liked Jake as a love interest (and his dog of course!) but I did think they fell a little fast, it very a little insta-love to me. I wanted more depth there! I also thought there was so much build up to the terrible thing that happened between Addison's aunt and parents, but then it was revealed what the fight was over and felt pretty glossed over. It was such a stupid thing! I thought that could have been explored further or at the very least Addison could have called out her parents' behavior. I enjoyed the growth in Addison and Jake and was definitely rooting for them in the end.
I also had no idea going in that this was a follow up to Rosen's prior book, On Fire Island. That book was referenced a lot (in the sense that the MMC wrote it) and I really think I would have enjoyed this book more had I read that one first, because my attachment to Fire Island/some of the characters would have been stronger. I think these two books should be listed as linked/a series. This could be a me issue and I still liked the book, I just think I would have liked it more!
Also last thing - whoever designed this book cover should design every book color. It's gorgeous!

Seven Summer Weekends was a surprise sequel to a book I absolutely adored last year, On Fire Island. I'll be honest, my book memory is horrible so I didn't make the character connection until my buddy read discussion with and just knowing that made it even better.
It obviously stands in its own, but I highly HIGHLY recommend reading On Fire Island because that book is something special and makes you realize just how special this book is too.
These are the only 2 books I have read by Jane Rosen and I have to read more. She is a special author who writes special books with amazing characters.

This is a heartwarming romance about a woman named Addison Irwin whose life is turned upside down by a Zoom mishap, causing her to lose her dream job at an ad agency. Shortly after, she inherits a house on Fire Island from a previously estranged aunt. Addison plans to sell the house and use the money to buy a Manhattan apartment, but her plans are disrupted when she discovers she has to host guests for seven weeks. During this time, she meets Ben, her widowed neighbor, and together they find healing, peace, and unexpected connections.
The story highlights themes of personal growth, new beginnings, and letting go of expectations and fears to pursue happiness. It also emphasizes the power of community, forgiveness, and moving forward while honoring the past.

From the stunning watercolor cover to the whole premise of this novel, I was so excited to read this ARC.
I loved the different, intricate characters and the idea of going through seven summer weekends as they navigate loss, love, growing up, rekindling passions, etc. However, what made it difficult to read was the writing style. Instead of leading into different pieces of the story and developing them naturally it was written more as a play-by-play or a bedtime story.
I know Jane has a wonderful fanbase of readers who appreciate her stories and writing and I can’t wait for them to love on it, but unfortunately for me that wasn’t the case.
NOTE: This is a follow-up to her previous novel On Fire Island, which I didn’t know until the end (oops!), so this can be safely read as a standalone.

I’ve loved every book Jane Rosen has written, and this one was such a treat! It was warm and funny, but also intense and sad at times. Addison is a fantastic character, trying to figure out who she is; Ben is brilliant but closed off, still mourning a great loss. The setting of Fire Island is a huge part of this book, making it a perfect beach read.

It’s a tale as old as time, or since Hallmark movies started anyways. A girl is left a house by an estranged relative in some tiny town she’s never been in. She then travels to that house and well… I think you all know what happens next.
THOUGHTS - NEGATIVE
This story is centered around Addison and the revolving door of characters that reach Addison not only about her estranged aunt but about herself. What a fantastic concept! The problem is that it feels like you are in the outside looking in during this book (which obviously you are) but good books make you feel like you are IN them. I don’t feel what the characters feel, or have a draw to Fire Island. I read the words and they slide off my back, they don’t stick in my mind to swirl about during the day. I think the main reason for this is the lack of detail. Rosen uses many descriptors, but they are all very basic. He has brown hair, she is 5’9”, and the dog is large - her writing style doesn’t draw me in for more. I don’t want to dive deeper into the book because no matter how far I read I’m left on the surface level.
My other issue with this book is that there’s kind of multiple POVs, but also kind of not. There is no distinction between POVs you just to kind of have to realize… oh this isn’t Addison’s internal dialogue anymore and then replay what you just read in your head from another person's POV. Then one page later it switches back. Having to guess who the narrator is in a book is not a game I like to play.
The miscommunication between Addison and Ben drove me nuts. It was so unnecessary and just made me internally scream.

While the characters may not be overly detailed there is a fantastic assortment of characters. The house that Addison is left has a vacation rental that is rented for the next seven weekends. Some of the renters are Gicky's old friends, some are Addison's, and some are just obsessed with the author next door. The plot, as basic as it was, was great. Addison's personal growth with the help of all of the people sent into her life courtesy of her aunt made it a great read.

Jane Rosen has once again proved why she is one of my favorite authors. She writes the most perfect rom-coms with the best characters. I fell in love with the characters and the setting of On Fire Island, and I was so excited when I learned that Rosen was taking us back to Fire Island again this year for Seven Summer Weekends. This book exceeded my expectations. Addison Irwin was such a joy and I loved following along on her summer journey. I loved how each of the various summer guests helped Addison learn more about her Aunt Gicky, and The Spice Girls were of course my favorite visitors. I also loved the connection between Addison and Ben. My heart is so full after reading this book!
While it helps to have read On Fire Island before reading Seven Summer Weekends, these books are not technically part of a series. If you have time, I would highly recommend reading On Fire Island first because I loved that book, but you can definitely still understand Seven Summer Weekends if you do not read On Fire Island first.
🎧I alternated between the ebook and the audiobook, and absolutely loved my time listening to Emily Norman bring this story to life. I mostly listened during my morning walks, and one morning, I ended up walking close to five miles (I usually walk around two-three miles) because I was so into this audiobook and story. That’s how much I loved this one. Norman provided a flawless performance and I cannot recommend this one on audio enough!

Jane Rosen has once again proved why she is one of my favorite authors. She writes the most perfect rom-coms with the best characters. I fell in love with the characters and the setting of On Fire Island, and I was so excited when I learned that Rosen was taking us back to Fire Island again this year for Seven Summer Weekends. This book exceeded my expectations. Addison Irwin was such a joy and I loved following along on her summer journey. I loved how each of the various summer guests helped Addison learn more about her Aunt Gicky, and The Spice Girls were of course my favorite visitors. I also loved the connection between Addison and Ben. My heart is so full after reading this book!
While it helps to have read On Fire Island before reading Seven Summer Weekends, these books are not technically part of a series. If you have time, I would highly recommend reading On Fire Island first because I loved that book, but you can definitely still understand Seven Summer Weekends if you do not read On Fire Island first.
🎧I alternated between the ebook and the audiobook, and absolutely loved my time listening to Emily Norman bring this story to life. I mostly listened during my morning walks, and one morning, I ended up walking close to five miles (I usually walk around two-three miles) because I was so into this audiobook and story. That’s how much I loved this one. Norman provided a flawless performance and I cannot recommend this one on audio enough!

Another enjoyable beach read that will whisk you away to the coastal town of Fire Island, NY. I first fell in love with the author’s writing after reading A Shoe Story, and she’s done it again with Seven Summer Weekends! It was such a great addition to On Fire Island, and I loved being reunited with some of the past characters.
When a Zoom call mishap leads to Addison Irwin getting fired from her job, the best solution is for her to get away to Fire Island, where she has just inherited a home from her estranged Aunt, and figure out what to do with her life.
As Addison soon discovers, the home comes with a guest cottage, and it was so entertaining to see who would be staying there each week. From the cast of quirky characters, to the fun beachy setting, and uncovering the family drama, I thought this was such a heartwarming story overall.
🎧The audiobook narration was performed by Emily Norman who I really enjoyed, and she captured the emotions, the romance, and the story so well.
