Maya’s Tiny Warrior’s by Manasi Vegesna is a wonderful introduction to science for a young child. It is recommended for ages 4 – 8, and though they may not grasp the concept in full, the colorful, fun illustrations may capture their curiosity. I strongly believe in education and feel that learning something new is always a good thing, even if they don’t understand it all. It will come to them as they reread the book, or pick up another with science as the topic. It is never too early to learn about our bodies and how they function. Small steps…

I received an advance review audiobook for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you Manasi Vegesna and iRead Book Tours. I'm excited to be a part of this tour.

Maya’s Tiny Warriors is a lighthearted and educational book geared toward readers aged 4-8. The book is an excellent conversation started about the immune system and how it protects us against the myriad of germs we encounter while out in the world.

In this story, it’s Maya’s first day of school. When she wakes up she knows something isn’t right and definitely knows something isn’t right when the sight of her favorite pancakes make her tummy turn. When her mom says she has a fever and she’s staying home, she’s disappointed and wonders if her friends miss her. As she spends the day sleeping, her body is waging a major war against the germs. Each cell with their own job (B-cells, T-cells, Macrophages, etc.) is working together to conquer the nasty germs. The next morning, she wakes up feeling good as new, jumping out of bed and ready for her second day of school.

The book is beautifully illustrated and it’s the illustrations that truly bring this story to life. Bright and colorful, this book will engage your little reader while also sparking curiosity at marvels of the human body to heal itself. The story is also well written, and I’d love to see this become a series teaching children about the variety of things happening in their body at any given time!

Maya’s Tiny Warriors is a cute picture book that teaches children about their bodies, illness, germs, and how the immune system works, all in a broken down way that’s easier to understand. (And easier for grownups to understand, too!)👍

As someone who thinks education like this is so important for kids and adults alike, I was overall pleased with this book and its goal to achieve just that. It’s important for kids to know how germs can spread and how their bodies (when healthy) fight off these viruses. I find this book would be a helpful tool to use to demonstrate to fearful or anxious children how certain things like missing school, not feeling well, having fever, etc. are normal and it’s how the body recovers and deals with being sick. 😷

The book may be a little bit advanced for most young kids, as it goes into different types of immune cells, but that part is nice for older children and also for adults to understand better as they read this book aloud to their child. 🤒

I read this book to my niece who is at the level where she’s just starting to read herself. She enjoyed the book and its pictures! When I asked her to describe her thoughts on the book and rate it on a scale of one-five stars (1 being the lowest and five the highest), she said:

“Super, super, super good!
I love how the little fighters saved the day and now she feels all better!
6 Stars!”

My overall rating:

"Maya's Tiny Warriors" is an informational, education, and entertaining story for young readers. It explains what happens within the body when someone gets sick, labeling immune cells as warriors that fight off invaders. What a fun way to explain why we sometimes feel bad and are fevered.

There is a lot to learn in this book, including terminology, biology, and medicine, making it especially attractive to elementary school aged children. Although charming, colorful illustrations are included, I feel the information is too in-depth for pre-school aged children to understand and follow.

I appreciate how the story alleviates fears children might have when they are fevered, coughing, and suck.

Maya wakes up for the first day of school feeling terrible and her mum says she has a fever and has to stay home. The story progresses to show how her immune system fights all the nasty germs. I love how the story explains in detail in a way children will understand how you can feel awful but it is your bodies way of telling you to rest and it will take care of the rest. As a child it can be scary when you don't feel well and this book helps them to understand what is happening to their body. The bright and beautiful illustrations make it fun and enticing for younger children and explain the story through the illustrations. I believe younger and older children will truly enjoy this beautiful book.

My 8 year old LOVED this read y'all! She said the book was entertaining to read and it was also educational, a win-win in my book and hers too! She was so happy when Maya felt better!
Maya starts out sick in the book and she is sad and not feeling well and it's supposed to be her first day of school. She can't even eat her chocolate chip pancakes, and that is the best thing ever for breakfast, I agree:(
I really liked how the author who is an intelligent person wrote an engaging story about the germs that happen in our bodies when we get sick with the Flu, a cold, etc. I would actually love to see more from this author about various illnesses, like a series. That would be really cool and also I think kids like my own, and others would enjoy them immensely!

It’s the first day of school and Maya woke up not feeling well. For days, Maya stayed in bed and continued to be sick. Would she ever get better? But what she didn’t know was that insider her body, there were tiny warriors working to do just that. These warriors were called immune cells and they fight off diseases in the body.

With illustrations that were so cute and colorful, this was very insightful and educational. It’s a great way to learn about the human body and how immunity works. It’s a little bit of science in a book. The book was full of fun, learning, and action.

It’s a good read! Great for any reading to a sick child.

Maya's Tiny Warriors is a fun, educational book for young readers to learn about their immune system and how it works to help fight off illnesses.
On the first day of school, Maya wakes up feeling sick. She's got a cough and the sniffles, and her mom tells her she has a fever and needs to stay home. Maya is disappointed, but she spends the day resting. Inside her body, though, something amazing is happening. Her immune system is waging war against the germs making Maya sick. The B-cells, T-cells, and Macrophages are working together to vanquish those pesky invaders. But will Maya be better for the second day of school? Or will her immune system have to fight another battle?
This is a delightful book that will engage young readers and teach them what happens when they get a cold or the flu. It's a bright, colorful book with wonderful illustrations and is relatively easy to read. Parents may have to help their kiddos with some of the bigger words like lymphatic and macrophages, though.
Overall, this is a great book that should be on every parent's bookshelf.

Have you ever wondered how to explain being sick to a child? Manasi Vegesna has written a book that can help parents and teachers explain the recovery process. She describes in child-friendly terms what happens in the immune system as it is fighting the germs.
Maya is sick on the first day of school, Maya wakes up with a fever so Mom sends her back to bed. The story describes the battle that is taking place in her body. Once her immune system has done its job, Maya is healthy again and ready to go to school.
The only thing I didn’t like about the book was that Maya returned to school the day following a fever. Most schools require 24-hours fever free without fever-reducing meds before returning to school. The fact that Maya could return to school as soon as she woke up well, while they have to be fever-free a whole day before returning to school may be confusing to some. However, I did really like the book and think it is a great one to teach about the immune system.
Maya’s Tiny Warriors would make a great addition to a K-12 Christian school library or a classroom library. Teachers may want to include the book in their units about the human body.
I received a complimentary copy of Maya's Tiny Warriors. This is my honest review.
