Jennie Lucas had a tragic beginning for any would-be writer: a very happy childhood. Her parents owned a bookstore, and she grew up surrounded by books, dreaming about faraway lands. Her mother read aloud to her in French when she was little; when she was ten, her father secretly paid her a dollar for every classic novel (Jane Eyre, War and Peace) that she read. As a chubby teenager, Jennie covered her bedroom with travel posters and always had her nose in a book.

At fifteen, she went to a Connecticut boarding school on scholarship. She took her first solo trip to Europe at sixteen, then put off college and traveled around the U.S., supporting herself with jobs as diverse as gas station cashier and newspaper advertising assistant.

At 22, she met the man who would be her husband. For the first time in her life, she wanted to stay in one place, as long as she could be with him. After their marriage, she graduated from Kent State University with a degree in English, and started writing books a year later.

Jennie was a finalist in the Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart contest in 2003 and won the award in 2005. A fellow 2003 finalist, Australian author Trish Morey, read Jennie’s writing and told her that she should write for Harlequin Presents. It seemed like too big a dream, but Jennie took a deep breath and went for it. A year later, after seven years of writing and eight finished manuscripts, Jennie got the magical call from London that turned her into a published author.

Since then, life has been hectic, juggling a writing career, a sexy husband and two young children, but Jennie loves her crazy, chaotic life. Who needs a clean house? Every day, Jennie gets swept into drama, glamour and passion. Now if she can only figure out how to pack up her family and live in all the places she’s writing about!

The beginning was the same as another book of JL but less angsty. He left her and his newborn just before the delivery of his child for a dumb reason as usual but I didn’t feel her anguish. 🤦🏻‍♀️

loved so much of this story…

I really love this author and I always gobble up her books when they drop. I love the secret bay trope. I love that there wasn’t a condom in sight for any of their smexy times. I love that the heroine was a virgin and only claimed by the hero. I loved the tortured hero trope, I love how he tries to be so cold and detached and is burning up inside with yearning and all the emotions hes tried to repress.

I really loved that the hero was faithful to the heroine during their separation. It’s not mentioned if he was celibate when she was working with him, but I choose to believe that he was.

And I absolutely FREAKING love that the heroine wasn’t a bitch, under the guise of being “strong” which is a category so many HP heroines fall into nowadays.

What I really didn’t like was that the heroine was faced with an ex-mistress, a woman that the hero had fucked and that just pissed me off. The heroine should never have to face the hero’s former cum dumps, never be insulted by the presence of a skank the hero has rutted. I also didn’t like how cruel the skank was to the heroine without any comeuppance. Thankfully the OW angle wasn’t too drawn out.

If it hadn’t been for OW, I would’ve given this 5 stars. But it has a virgin heroine , no condoms, and a hero who is faithful after being with the heroine. I’ll give it 4 stars for that alone.

Safe-ish. Hero was a manwhore before being with heroine. His past is mentioned. Heroine is a virgin and belongs only to her hero. Minor OW. Minor OM as heroine was going to marry another old family friend. No cheating (from when MCs are intimate) or sharing. HEA with epilogue almost one year later.

Nine Month Notice made me realise I've missed Lucas's writing/voice and the warmth it brings to Presents.

Hero first impression was that he wasn’t alpha/Presents enough for me and that impression didn’t change. This, together with the amount of time spent in Queens and then NY, all the family and friends, also lost it some Presentsness, leading to that hybrid feel, which the warmth and everydayness contributed to.

I loved Lyra, Santorini and Paris bar a few quibbles. A lot of time is spent with secondary characters leading to their HEA, which works and made sense, but I prefer the heroine to have a more active role in the hero’s conflict resolution and HEA.

Generous 2.5
Nice writing, easy going MCs and not any friction and so nothing to write home about. Guess I haven’t loved any JL in the past but reached for it not knowing what to expect after all this time. Wasn’t for me.

The h is already pregnant and the MCs have their somewhat second chance MoC right at the beginning of the book. The H isn’t arrogant or cruel and the h is too basic and dull. They barely even argue over anything so the temp never rises.

What a journey!

What a great story. This will be a reread in a year or two for sure.

It’s a story about learning to love and respect yourself. A story of redemption. As the main couple travel their journey to their HEA, there is so much to experience. The drama and angst, the romance the love, both aware and unaware. It’s got some sweet and some “salty”. The final chapter as they reach their HEA might require a tissue but well worth it!

The guy is Greek which is pretty typical. No problem. Greek is fine. :-)

The story was enough to keep me reading but... it was not great. A good way to pass the time and though the story was fine, the characters were just okay. He came across as cold and unlikeable. Yeah, I know he aims to come across as cold but... let's just say I don't think the character was done very well.

Kind of liked that the heroine was not perfect. Never clear how her body is at what point or if it really is or just appeared that way due to poorly fitting clothes but she is referred to as chubby. And yet her guy loves her. She was unremarkable to him to begin with because they worked together and he was focused on business and because her clothes were cheap and ill fitting it didn't give him any ideas.

I kind of like the idea that all a woman needs is a man that appreciates her at the least and maybe a makeover to enhance what she's already gifted with. But then I struggled with taking her seriously as the main character because of that. I've been programmed to think that ideal women should be Barbieish. Pretty hair, coiffed becomingly, hair the right color for her, young so nice skin, a natural glow, body in proportion, and even if she isn't fit (that is, has muscle tone) she is at least not overweight in the clinical sense.

An awesome read

The characters had met previously at their best friends wedding, she couldn’t stand him because he was an arrogant playboy. She is quiet, shy, beautiful and sweet. He convinces her to become his executive secretary. One night after a big deal was completed, they slept together which led to an unexpected pregnancy. The h was going to marry another man but the H stopped the wedding and they marry. The H has a lot of childhood baggage which is preventing him from loving her. Along the way they are able to find their way back to each other and have their HEA. Great epilogue.

What an incredible story of love. Theo thought that he was incapable and unfit to love anyone. So when he finds out that he is the father of Emmie's baby he insists on marrying her. Little does he know that Emmie and the baby will completely change his life.
