Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.

Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.

My thoughts so far:

1.)
I really enjoy watching Orochimaru (the main villain) skulking around in his very terrible and very obvious Count Olaf disguises.

2.)
Some dude: I have a sad backstory.
Naruto: *gasp* He's just like me fr!!

3.)
Sasuke shows up to his tournament match fashionably late with the worst hairdo known to man. Technically this happens next volume but I remember... I'll always remember.

I'm not surprised at all that this is ranked number one manga. I follow the chapters weekly and have read them all so I didn't feel like adding them all.

Naruto Uzumaki is the best main character, in my opinion. I feel like I might die a little when the series is finally over. There are so many plot twists and powers and personalities, and the background artwork is nice.

The one-sided tension between Hinata and Naruto is a classic! Very good character building scene with the two of them in this volume.

Lesson: Heroes are only normal human beings. All they have is a little more courage than the rest of us.

I will take revenge on you, Gato, you monster. I have the whole Naruto and his team against you now.

Yeah that moment with Gaara and Rock Lee and Naruto and Shikamaru, a little creepy. But the tone during that was good. Them crazy eyes. Anyway, another good volume.

Training chapters in manga is what I like best and this volume didn't disappoint in that case. Naruto has finished his training with Jiraiya for the final phase of the chunin examination. He is now ready to go all out in the first match against Neji to fulfill his vow. It is going to be a lot of fun!

Now, that's much better. Jiraya is a cool character, but the Chief Toad made certainly the biggest impression on me ;) Also, getting a peek of the Nine-Tailed Fox was a bonus. I'm hoping to see more of him later!

Also, Gaara's backstory turned out to be quite interesting, if heartbreaking at the same time - no wonder he's so creepy. Though in this volume it seems that Kishimoto has certain themes he wants to explore at length and gets hung up on small things - e.g. visits to hospital, fruit baskets and flowers from girls. Also, it's already volume 11 and I'm still waiting to see at least one capable female character - the stereotype of dumb bimbo is played by Kishimoto to extremes. Hinata seems to have some potential, but Sakura and Ino are just hopeless.

Still, this was pretty enjoyable. I'm looking forward to Naruto's fight with Neji!

In my books, anything involving Gaara will always turn out to be great. In this volume, he has a particularly creepy sequence with Naruto and Shikamaru that sheds a bit more light on his story and it's awesome!

And then there's Naruto's training that leads him to connect with his "red chakra". Although the volume does go all over the place right before the next big fight, Naruto's humouristic moments were fun to read about.

Cada vez amo a Rock Lee, es digno de admirar. Mi corazón ya está empezando a shippear personajes, ahora veré si se cumple o no pero solo dire que adoro a Naruto mucho.

Gaara creo que tiene mucha historia por detrás que contar.

Training and a time of discovery before the final matches begin, and the introduction of the Pervy Sage. Naruto really lucked out, even if he generally has no clue. It's also always a joy to mess with Kurama.

GUH I FORGOT HOW MUCH OF A PAIN OROCHIMARU IS. He literally ruins Sasuke and everything good. Jiraya was introduced first I this volume but I'm much more excited to meet Tsunade. SHE TURNS SAKURA INTO A BAMF.

Also I'm feeling the NarutoxHinata vibes like never before???

This volume showed the aftermath of the preliminaries and the period of one month of rest before the main round starts. Behind the all friendly chunin exam, a plot is brewing and it is to destroy the hidden leaf village. Hidden sand village ninjas along with Gaara were seen dangerous before but they are now becoming an enemy to the hidden leaf. Their alliance with Orochimaru is is revealed in this volume.

This volume is important because it reveals a new character, Jiraya, who takes the charge of Naruto's training. Things look funny between them and while Naruto tries to master new jutsu, Jiraya tries to find a way to make Naruto master the power of Nine-tails Chakra.

This volume was not focused on one thing or one place, instead it took readers to many different places and through different characters and events, which is rare for this manga till now. The ending came with final exam starting and Naruto and Neji facing each other for the match.

Now this volume is a little of a slow burn, it goes through the whole month wait and ends with the beginning of the Finals of the Chunin Selection Exams. We are also introduced to one of my all time favorite characters, Jiraiya (I know I have a lot of favorite characters). This volume is really important though because it sets and weaves together so many plot points to come in the upcoming volumes!!

We love a little connecting volume to get us to the final round of exams, I love a tournament arc. The girls really shone this volume, particularly Hinata, I'm excited to see more from her. Hate Jiraya but that's not a surprise. That's okay though because Tsunade will be here soon enough.

Many, on the face of it, may not realize it. But Naruto manga, in general, has a lot of deep.....deep lessons in it.

While it is very silly and comical at times, one simply cannot ignore the deep philosophical ideas interspersed in it.

For example, think about Hinata.

Before Naruto goes out to face Neji in the first match of chunin selection exam, he sees Hinata hiding behind a tree, and has a conversation with her. Right there, Hinata gives him some lessons which Naruto never thought about.

Hinata, behind her sweet nature, appreciates the fact that true strength is the will to never give up. She sees this strength in Naruto.

So anyone who really reads between the lines will see that Naruto is not merely about the superpower stuff and who is the top dog on a given day, but the fact that power lies within oneself. It's all about utilizing it.

Finally, Jiraiya appeared in this volume! I love him. I think he is an important character on this manga because he know Naruto’s father, Naruto’s chakra, and have a variety of relationships with other main characters. The relationship between Naruto and Jiraiya started here, so this book is very important for the whole history of Naruto. On the other hand, I worried about Sasuke and Orochimaru. My favorite picture is Gaara holing a bare doll.
